  • GB Jeremiah Azu Olympics lasted 073 seconds before getting the Red card for a faulty start in the 100 metres.
If he doesn't get picked for relay then that's a split second to have your games over.

To stop the nonsense when Azu didn't want to leave the track, just let him run under protest and then disqualify him if crystal clear.
Imagine all the world and effort that’s gone in to making it to the Olympics and then you don’t even run in a heat.
  • I'm sure Hinchliffe would be even faster without the mullet flapping around  ;)

I had never seen Hinchliffe run but heard he had loads of potential and he has a unique running style !
Looks chaotic as JJ Chalmers said but boy he ran under 10 seconds and didn't start fast.
Dad from Rotherham and mum from the Philippines.
  • 'to podium'. Interesting use of noun as verb, I haven't seen that one before.
(not being critical, just making an unwanted observation)
  • I think there used to be a warning for a false start and if you did it again you would be out.  It seems unfair to have this system of one false start and you're out.

  • Any fishing is there? 🎣

It's a deterrent as they mess up scheduling and it's applied to all equally. Far fewer these days I think, which is good.

Edit -just as I say that, there's another.

Beijing was the last time a false start was allowed at an olympics and then it was one for the entire field. 2nd one was a DQ regardless of who did the first one. a weird rule

last time you were allowed a false start each was early 2000s
  • Watching the athletics, why are out people dressed like Kiwis? Some of the other GB kits have appeared dark blue but the athletes are kitted out in all black. I wonder if it’s some kind of homage to the new UK passports.

From memory a runner would get a warning for a false start and then whoever made the second false start would get the red card.

I think it’s really, really, dark blue rather than black.

GB Wilson was in the lead in the wind surfing, I go to get ready for FA cup Sevenoaks v Whitstable and now she's all at sea and gets the Bronze 🥉

    What happened 🤷🏻‍♀️

    Answer: The wind blew !
  • Bronze for Emma Wilson in the Windsurfing after leading the heats

I am critical, it sounds weird.

    Like British passports…

I saw it all and I'm still none the wiser.  The commentators seemed to think she chose a longer route to go faster and failed. It suggests she misread the conditions if she thought she could traverse 400 meters in less time than it would take to do 100 for example, so a bad misjudgement when it mattered most.

Not just because Emma Wilson missed out, but I've never liked that sort of final race.

Logically you either have a pure knockout system where you have separate individual knockout races to reach a winner takes all final, e.g. in athletics, tennis, boxing etc, or you have a "league table" where the total score over every  round sorts out the medal places, e.g. in diving or gymnastics.

Having all her previous wins giving her no benefit feels wrong. And in a  sport where knowing the current weather conditions is critical, it's almost certainly more beneficial to be able to race again before the final, even if you exert more energy.

I think skipping straight to the final is pretty beneficial. Two less races means being a lot fresher. She had a good 10-15 races prior to that and won most so I don't think the weather is a factor. The Italian just made a ballsy move that paid off.

Knowing the local wind speeds and direction on the day is crucial though for a sport like windsurfing.

We are Sam but after seeing the video of Charlotte Dujardin and the whipping of her horse's feet I kept wondering how the other riders train their horse's?

Yes, that video rather tarnished the whole reputation of the sport, in the same way that all of athletics and cycling is tarnished by failed drug tests.

Let's face it, those horses aren't going to just voluntarily do that sort of thing unless someone makes them do it - kicking out like a can-can girl isn't natural for a horse!

    Pure elitist bullshit.

I’m really not sure it’s actually sport. A load of nonsense really.*

*obviously I would have a different opinion if GB had won gold!

Bronze for Jake Jarman in the floor final. The commentators seem absolutely stunned that Luke Whitehouse didn't medal.

*Appears from Whitehouse's interview that he didn't land one his elements within the guidelines from the judges and got docked heavily on difficulty for it.
