I think Ahadme lacks confidence on the ball and when don’t touch it for 65 mins it’s not hard to see why. The difference between great strikers and decent ones. Think he’s a handful for Centre backs tho and he does allow us to win second balls high.
Agree with the confidence point. There was a moment in the first half where he was played through the right channel, unmarked and with a lot of space ahead. He hesitated and ended up turning the ball back into a congested midfield. A confident striker would have ran at and into their penalty area, unleashed a shot, or even crossed. I hope he'll settle in and provide a very good striking option for NJ to weigh up alongside Miles and others.
Could be confidence or his ability with his feet. I thought it looked like he took six touches to control it. This is a player who only scored two goals with his feet last season, one of which was a real spoon. But let's hope it's confidence!
The only goal we have conceded, in the cup, was a wonder shot from way out. We have a great starting point as if you don't concede you don't lose and one goal wins it. Blindingly obvious but no less true for it.
Blindingly obvious to everyone except one.
Yet we are not top & not even in an automatic spot. So please tell me why ? Why are we 3rd if we have scored in every league game AND not let in a goal. Because according to everyone, even Sir Nathan Jones keeping clean sheets wins you titles.
SO. FAR IT DOESNT.
Got to be a wind up surely?
Only you could find a way to moan about 3 wins and 3 clean sheets from 3 games, including 1 over a side expected to contend for automatic promotion.
Once again, I am not moaning.
I am simply stating a fact. People on here keep saying " clean sheets win you titles" and I have pointed out that we've won all our games by keeping a clean sheet. Now, if "clean sheet wins" win you titles then we should be top. But we're not. We aren't even top 2. So, for the last time, there must be something else that is needed to win you automatic promotion than a clean sheet win.
As they say on exam papers, please show your workings out.
If we win all our remaining games 1-0 do you reckon we still might not get promotion?
By simple maths it stands to reason that if you win all your games, no matter what the score, then you will be Champions because you'll have 6 more points than anyone else.
But currently, and I know it's only 3 games & the season is over 46 games, we are not in the automatic promotion spaces even though we have won all our games & kept 3 clean sheets.......seeing as everyone keeps telling me clean sheets are what win you titles.
I really do want to drop this issue but people keep ignoring the facts and dont or cant explain why we are not top.....or at least 2nd.
PS. And at this stage I dont really care, but people cant seem to let it go. I am simply posting facts. We could have won all 3 games 4-2 and we'd be 2nd. No clean sheets in sight. So once again......there is something else just as important as a clean sheet. Just recognise that fact & move on.
I think most people are aware you have to score more goals than the opposition to win. Thanks for your invaluable insight.

Oh ffs Golfie ! 3 games and 3 wins ! 9 points out of 9 ! Enjoy the moment mate or let us enjoy it ! Before we know it the moment will be gone and we will lose then we have to accept your negativity 😂
Score in 25% games, say 10 more, 10x3 + 33x 1 + 9 = 72
Score in 50% games, say 21 more, 21x3 + 22 x 1 + 9 = 94
Score in 75% games, say 32 more, 32 x 3 + 11x1 + 9 = 116
So, golfie is technically correct in that clean sheets alone will not win the title as some goals are required, but 102 points would likely win the league so if every game was a clean sheet you would need 25 goals all season.
Stating the blindingly obvious, for every goal you concede you need a goal more.
It could be argued that scoring more than one goal more than the opposition in any one game is wasteful.
Ultimately though the last 20 years the top 2 has been decided by how many points have been accumulated across the entire season not how many goals. No teams in the top 3 have been level on points.
The average amount of goals scored by teams who have been promoted in this time is well under 2 a game.
That means the only way they are picking up the 80 plus points required to win the league is by keeping clean sheets.
Not by winning games 4-2, because teams simple cannot average that amount of goals a game over the season. The fact that over a season is that if you score 4 in 1 game, there will be 2 games where you score 0 or 1.
Thats why goals will win you some games, but clean sheets will ultimately win you more.
Thats the fact, and that’s the ‘workings out’.
Stockport and us are not going to end up on the same points, and the league title is not decided after 3 games so who is currently top and who is is bottom is absolutely pointless metric to look at currently.

Far too early to worry about goal difference. Personally, I am happier at this stage winning 1-0 or 2-0 than 4-2, 5-3 or whatever as it suggests we are better defensively (which we needed to be) and managing games. Far better platform to build longer term success imo.

But we haven't played the two teams above us yet - so still in our hands!
There is nothing more important than a win - clean sheet or otherwise. Points win promotion, however they are acquired.
Thought we were great yesterday and Bolton were poor aside from Santos who is the Aneke version of a league one defender.
I think Mitchell might be a new favourite. Sit right behind goal and he's proper old school blood and thunder angry centre back. Jones along side him very composed and calm by comparison but equally effective and played with guile
Mannion just looks so calm and relaxed which is opposite to some of the flappy nerve ridden performances others in that position delivered over the years.
We look solid in defence and Ramsay glides past frustrated forwards and midfielders with ease and purpose often diagonally rather than run 20 years up the line, freeze and do a u turn as many a charlton right back has done hitherto.
Small is a great attacking outlet and we have some player there if he stays and develops under Jones.
Berry and Doherty absolutely ran the show and were everywhere winning everything with Coventry mopping up and linking up play.
Campbell doesn't stop running with his electric pace and has gone from a timid nice shy player to exerting physical presence on centre backs that will leave them knowing they've been in a game as they apply their post match TCP.
Ahadme brings a lot too the team and has great positional sense and has been a very good import.
Looking at Godden, Aneke and Kanu warming up with Leaburn still to come back prompted me to comment to my boy how strong in depth our up top options are (relative to prior years)
The boss man himself has delivered with gusto so far and started a season that's dared me to believe he's assembling a squad seriously capable of getting out of this league as long as he remains with us.
Pantomime or not I love his genuine passion and jumping up and down and racing along the touch line with ever passage of play or inevitable poor official decision like Welsh church going Tasmamian devil. Take note messr Appleton.
Building a very strong connection between the fans and a squad of players each of whom put their bodies on the line and give it their all (effectively) in the games I've seen so far.
Brilliant day and even the sun game out as we garnered our second match winning goal.
Great day out, great 3 points, top atmosphere and a top notch bacon sarnie in the Valley Cafe beforehand.
Can't beat a Charlton day on days like yesterday. 👌
Santos is overrated on here. Slow as they come and both his errors led to our goals. That’s the reason he’s still in League 1.

He’s been brilliant against us in recent years but apparently that mistake yesterday is not uncommon for him. Would have been fuming as a Bolton fan seeing him throwing his arms up in the air and shouting at his teammates when the goal was his fault. He was poor.
Towards the end of the game, we had a few goal kicks , all the players all went over to the west stand. Mannion then kicked it towards them, resulting in the ball going off for a throw. I think Small should have ran towards the AC stand and then the keeper kick it to him, plenty of space to run into.
I was wondering why this too. Twice this happened. There must be a reason for it but literally the entire 20 outfield players congregated on the right hand side. Had Small darted to the left hand side as Mannion to his run up he would have had 30 yards open space in front of him.
Had some time on my hands this morning so very unusually for me visited another teams forums. I found it interesting that hardly any of the comments on the Bolton forum mentioned us at all. They’re not happy with their manager and some comments said they’d swap for Jones like a shot but that aside the consensus seems to be they gifted us the two goals and were overall the better team. No mention of our high intensity or press. Would seem that they lost that game rather than us winning it. Their failings rather than Charltons performance.
Just seen the highlights. Two proper cock-ups in defence for Bolton for both goals. No. I am not Steve Brown.
This was discussed on Charlton Live this morning. Whilst many of our goals are or will be as a result of cock ups or 'gifts' a material element of that is the press we're putting on teams pressuring them into making mistakes.
Bolton were trying to ping it around and we were bang on them so unless you're AC Milan of the 90s or Man City it's inevitable a mistake/ mistakes will occur.
Similar to how we gifted many many goals in recent seasons with poor/ mediocre defenders not knowing what to do when not hoofing it to no where. A lot of credit must go to NJ for setting us up like this.
If only our previous owner had put his hand in his pocket and invested in decent players we may have been in this position a few seasons ago.
It's Jones as well. These owners a leagues above that previous clown who did spend his money but it was very much the Sandgaard show front and centre with his poxy song and guitar pitch antics.
I wouldnt recognise our owners now if i walked past them on Floyd Road and that's a compliment. They get on with it in the background and celebrate in the stands as per last week. Proper professional sports business people. Methven will have learned from his Sunderland bruising and the others had the nightmare of last season so all now having to ensure they're on point with recruitment etc. Fortunately Jones has coming in and has proper old school manager power to a degree it seems in respect of recrutiment and playing style.
I dread to think where we'd be under previous clowns.
I don’t doubt there is player input from others but I’m confident in saying Jones has not only the final say but also the first say. Jones has an ethos and very definitely only wants players that fit it. For all the talk of getting in a 10 it’s not going to happen because Jones doesn’t see it as necessary.

Yeah a few have pulled my comment up on that and happy to concede in retrospect. I think what he does well he is excellent at but as pointed out, very limited and mistake prone yesterday, hence why he's still at this level as if he was more cultured with his physical attributes he'd be playing far higher up. Would still happily take him in our side at this level though.
Along with a few Bolton players. They really weren't at it and were arguing with each other from very early on all across the pitch so wonder if all's not well there. I think there manager will go by Christmas if they don't get a run of results based on listening to the Bolton fan on Charlton Live Friday preview and what I saw amongst their players yesterday.

I suspect part of that is the fact they've been close to promotion the last couple of years, in comparison to us being way off it. They also have a very good record against us recently. So it comes from the expectation that they should be beating us, or at least not losing.
Probably a view that they have fallen off, rather than us improving. Against lower teams, or as the season progresses if we maintain our place near the top that view from opposing fans will probably start to change.
Again so many positives and a feeling something special is happening.
All a bit Mr Kippling!
Alfie who?!
May I believe & he will outscore any striker that we have
Most likely he will. But I genuinely don't think it matters as Jones is not setting up to have "a goal scorer", he just wants enough goals to win games. And so far, he's got it.
No I'm sure you're right just don't understand anyone having a dig at Alfie

Goal difference.
Stockport have had 2 or 3 large winning margins in the 3 games played so far and Huddersfield's margins have been greater than ours over 3 games. Early season league tables are notoriously quirky. See how things look after 10 games. If we can sustain our present form we will be top two. If we fall away obviously we won't.
Really enjoyed that yesterday; however, just a minor gripe. I wish some of our players would stop chirping to the officials as that always ends up with a booking. Gripe over.

On Top of the Pops with a top 10 hit. Remember Diamond lights.....😀.
Interesting seeing Bolton fans’ reactions to Santos following the game. They weren’t surprised at his cock-ups. I’ve long thought he was overrated on here because he’s a big lump who has gone up against a succession of really average to poor Charlton strikers and looked like a colossus as a result. That was more a reflection of us than him though, there’s a reason no-one higher has taken him off Bolton’s hands in four years and he’s never played above L1. He’s a good L1 player but that’s about it and when he had to go up against a big lad who was up for it in Ahadme, a speed demon in Campbell and a press that reduced his passing options he panicked and created the opportunities for us to get two goals. It’s nice for once for us to make other teams’ players look like numpties instead of gods
Fantastic win. Really pleased with us defensively, it's what I've wanted for years to us focus on the back 4/5 first and make us hard to beat.
Thought Bolton moved the ball quickly and got in and around our box well, but never made any clear chances as such bar a half turn and shot which was comfortable for Mannion.
Both goals were from poor mistakes playing it out from the back, something I've never been a massive fan of and are the sort of goals we've been giving away for yrs. What it shows that sometimes you need to be direct.
Pleased with Luke Berry and like the fact he always shows for the ball and as much as I'm not Coventry's biggest fan and still maybe want more from him he was much better in 2nd half and best I've seen him bar the set pieces.
Crosses in general today were off, bar Anekes for Goddens and pleased to see him get off mark.
We seem to have a team of workhorses in attack who will harras and chase, maybe not flash but what we need and have needed for years.
Far to early to say, need to take it one game at a time, but happy so far.
Also as already said on here good to see the Radical Club busy before the game.

If this was halfway through the season then sure, but we're 3 games in, so claiming that we aren't scoring enough goals and clean sheets won't be enough is, quite frankly, meaningless. We're not going to keep 46 clean sheets. We're not going to win every game. The same is also true of the teams above us
If only our previous owner had put his hand in his pocket and invested in decent players we may have been in this position a few seasons ago.
Re your last sentence Rodney….I can’t believe it, when I read it I genuinely shuddered for a moment…..just the thought of how dire things have been kicked in a mini anxiety episode with me. Inexplicable I have to say……just goes to show how supporting one’s chosen club can momentarily affect your psyche when you least expect it. Onwards and Upwards You Lovely Red Boys.🥹

Assume all clean sheets in 43 games:
Score in 25% games, say 10 more, 10x3 + 33x 1 + 9 = 72
Score in 50% games, say 21 more, 21x3 + 22 x 1 + 9 = 94
Score in 75% games, say 32 more, 32 x 3 + 11x1 + 9 = 116
So, golfie is technically correct in that clean sheets alone will not win the title as some goals are required, but 102 points would likely win the league so if every game was a clean sheet you would need 25 goals all season.
Stating the blindingly obvious, for every goal you concede you need a goal more.
Ultimately though the last 20 years the top 2 has been decided by how many points have been accumulated across the entire season not how many goals. No teams in the top 3 have been level on points.
That means the only way they are picking up the 80 plus points required to win the league is by keeping clean sheets.
Thats why goals will win you some games, but clean sheets will ultimately win you more.
Stockport and us are not going to end up on the same points, and the league title is not decided after 3 games so who is currently top and who is is bottom is absolutely pointless metric to look at currently.
I was wondering why this too. Twice this happened. There must be a reason for it but literally the entire 20 outfield players congregated on the right hand side. Had Small darted to the left hand side as Mannion to his run up he would have had 30 yards open space in front of him.

Probably a view that they have fallen off, rather than us improving. Against lower teams, or as the season progresses if we maintain our place near the top that view from opposing fans will probably start to change.
Gripe over.
End of.
Now please can we move on. Jesus. Some of you just want to dig me out no matter what the subject.
