  • Taking the first three games as a series Lloyd Jones has been simply excellent, our best player.
The performance yesterday wasn’t absolutely perfect, but barring injuries what we have to work on are tweaks.
I think Coventry should improve his set pieces, I would have marked him higher but for that, the same goes for Luke Berry who was very good, but I hesitated to mark Berry higher because I was pissed off he got a yellow. The third yellow In successive  games, all stupid ones.
Everybody who knows football, and especially everybody who has seen Ty coming through (and being messed about by Appleton in particular) must recognise the very good job our coaches and manager have done with him to restore him to the excellent footballer he is becoming. Does anybody doubt that Tyreece Campbell will make a career in football?
  • The only goal we have conceded, in the cup, was a wonder shot from way out. We have a great starting point as if you don't concede you don't lose and one goal wins it. Blindingly obvious but no less true for it.
Blindingly obvious to everyone except one.
Yet we are not top & not even in an automatic spot. So please tell me why ?  Why are we 3rd if we have scored in every league game AND not let in a goal. Because according to everyone, even Sir Nathan Jones keeping clean sheets wins you titles.

    SO. FAR  IT  DOESNT.
Got to be a wind up surely?

Only you could find a way to moan about 3 wins and 3 clean sheets from 3 games, including 1 over a side expected to contend for automatic promotion.
Once again, I am not moaning.

I am simply stating a fact. People on here keep saying " clean sheets win you titles" and I have pointed out that we've won all our games by keeping a clean sheet. Now, if "clean sheet wins" win you titles then we should be top. But we're not. We aren't even top 2. So, for the last time, there must be something else that is needed to win you automatic promotion than a clean sheet win.

As they say on exam papers, please show your workings out.
Stockport have kept 3 clean sheets and are top of the table.
Looking at their next few games that could well continue.

    Mansfield away
    Reading home
    Crawley away
    Orient home

A very kind opening run of games, but in fairness a lot of people said on here pre-season that they'd bought well and would be up there.

I know their start has been kind but I thought their recruitment has been impressive enough that it's not too much of a surprise they're up there. Oli Norwood another smart addition if they make that one happen.

Norwood was announced before the weekend

We’re now joint third favourites for the title with Bolton at 9/1. We were about twelfth favourites at 16/1 pre season.
    We’re 3/1 for promotion. Bolton are 11/4.

I know it’s only early but I suspect Stockport are going to have a say in this as well.
  • Whilst he's been great in this opening period, I'd be interested to see how things look when they are flipped with TC. If he can pick up with the mentality he's been showing as a starter as a sub, I think his pace and guile would be a very unwanted for a tiring centre half or fullback. I'm sure we'll get to see how that plays out as the season progresses.

I suspect that this morning no matter which teams the bookies and their punters are shortening the odds on, the divisions other managers and experienced players will be dismissing most of them as main threats to their own chances and eventually pinpointing one team that they will have to watch out for and that’s the one with 3 clean sheets so far with the latest against Bolton

If we win all our remaining games 1-0 do you reckon we still might not get promotion?
I suspect in those circumstances somebody will argue we were lucky to have got away with not scoring more goals than the relegated teams and only got promoted because of the points we’d accumulated…😀

  • A performance to make you believe.
    Sonething is happening here
So many positives but two big things are the back three and Coventry. Superb.
And I never felt particularly worried that we’d concede. I have felt like that since about 2011.

Benefit of just winning games really; Stockport are winning against slightly easier opposition so will no doubt have confidence flowing through their ranks when they eventually come up against a promotion rival

A 3rd and final comment from me. Bolton was the 3rd team to 'cramp up' towards the end of the game. We are so much fitter than we've ever been, and the league games we've played, has seen every team have players go down because of cramp. Long may this continue!
A testament to what they've been doing in training. Teams won't be able to cope with us 10-15 games into this season as we will be even fitter and hungrier to win. It's a good time to be a Charlton supporter, something I've not said in a long long time.
The first few months of the 19-20 season in the championship was pretty good even though it did end with relegation.
  • I think Ahadme lacks confidence on the ball and when don’t touch it for 65 mins it’s not hard to see why. The difference between great strikers and decent ones. Think he’s a handful for Centre backs tho and he does allow us to win second balls high.
Agree with the confidence point. There was a moment in the first half where he was played through the right channel, unmarked and with a lot of space ahead. He hesitated and ended up turning the ball back into a congested midfield. A confident striker would have ran at and into their penalty area, unleashed a shot, or even crossed. I hope he'll settle in and provide a very good striking option for NJ to weigh up alongside Miles and others.

I definitely think this also had an impact at the end of the game. Bolton were physically and mentally tired. Frustrated from how organised we'd been, and for all their possession how little they'd created.

Our extra fitness and organisation is an underrated quality. We've already seen in all 3 games in the league we've scored late in all of them. If we can keep it up teams will get tired, start cramping up, and mentally that will impact them, we saw that with Bolton. As the game went on more and more passes were over hit, misplaced, and they started making individual and collective mistakes.
Yes, it's been quite noticable how the 3 teams we've played have all had "tiredness" or muscle problems with 10 to go. Also good that our subs have been impact subs (like Chuks & Godden) rather than players having to be replaced because of injuries (apart from Edwards but that was because of another players doings)

I wonder if our new pitch has anything to do with other teams tiring.
  • Great performance all round and some great defending by al the team when necessary against a good slick Bolton side.

Hope we can add a little more going forward and create more chances, Dont thin the front 2 will there in the coming weeks. Maybe though he will keep it as such seeing as the results are going our way at present.

Great cameos by Chucks and Godden in the last 20 mins.
