What a day and what a result. Up there for me in terms of games at the valley. I'm starting to believe. Almost annoying at this point having to wait a week for the next game. Enjoy your bank holiday folks.
Jones L and Mitchell A were immense Ramsey and Small excellent Gillesphey decent (EDITED!!!!) Coventry fabulous Berry and Doherty a little bit of class and nous TC worked tirelessly and caused them problems Aneke and Godden are great options off the bench Mannion solid but his kicking makes Dean Kiely look like Ederson
Now. Ahadme
Worked Tirelessly. But I remain concerned he's not actually very good. He's average at lots of things, but he certainly doesn't look like a natural finisher.
Overall how can you complain when the lads put that type of performance in compared to the actual shower of shite we saw last season.
But really I think it was that midweek trip to the MJ musical that got us the win today.
On a slightly more serious note, there is a good team spirit in this team, great passion being shown. Over the course of the season that will bring us extra points that could make all the difference to getting out of this godforsaken league.
Brilliant from the boys today!
Has the feeling of the Powell 102 points season in that respect
The only goal we have conceded, in the cup, was a wonder shot from way out. We have a great starting point as if you don't concede you don't lose and one goal wins it. Blindingly obvious but no less true for it.

Blindingly obvious to everyone except one.
Yet we are not top & not even in an automatic spot. So please tell me why ? Why are we 3rd if we have scored in every league game AND not let in a goal. Because according to everyone, even Sir Nathan Jones keeping clean sheets wins you titles.

Connor Coventry looks so much better without Dobson alongside him.
I think he’s stronger , fitter and has displayed the attitude that the players around him are showing . Not sure Dobson was the problem last year . Long may he continue to play well anyway

Agreed, but I do think they both occupied the same position too much. Coventry has a far better passing range and helps us build from the back
A few years back, we beat Hull 2-1 at home in August with a late winner from Makienok, under the management of Luzon. That was as good as it got that season. So I am trying to temper my happiness after yesterday. There's a long road ahead. But we looked good yesterday. Unlike Orient, Bolton came looking to win, and that made for a more open game. But we are looking like a team who will be very hard to beat. Good performances all over the pitch. Really excited- hope this time we are the real deal.
Boffin (A*AA and off to Brum Uni for Economics degree) had his cricket called off and we had nieces , nephew and mates son staying with us so had no room in the 9 seater minibus , decided he’d rather slob at home than come to the game . I mean he travelled to Carlisle with his mates but can’t be bothered to come with his family to watch us at home , weirdo , although his brothers are all at each other atm so I do sort of understand. Got to the ground 1pm in the pissing rain and left them all to go in the club shop where a small fortune was spent on shirts . Sat and talked with the softly spoken lovely legend John Humphrey when Petrol Head turned up I introduced him as Charltons best right back in my watching life time (sorry Luke Young ) but added even though he played for palace . He said he’d bumped in to George Shipley in another lounge earlier and we then reeled out all the other new signings of that period . he was brought up near Wembley and featured in a Sunday team at u13/u14 with Kenny jacket , Stuart Pearce , Garry waddock , Gary O’Reilly and they smashed everyone and their manager wrote off to pro clubs to play their youth teams and that’s how he got picked up by wolves at 14 and he’d go and train with them in the school holiday’s before moving up there at the age of 16. Back to the game that’s the first one that hasn’t bored the pants off me , we were excellent and you know there’s more to come. Campbell has beefed up sooooo much , loving his strength. It’s all been said we were a joy to watch and I have a (good) sick feeling in my stomach , we’re definitely going to be in the promotion battle , every win will mean much more than recent seasons , every loss will hurt more due to their rarity , we have what it takes to go up , anything else is aaaaaaaah Even Coventry ran over to where he must have got some proper shit taking corners after we scored the second and give it to some Bolton fans who were outraged and foaming at the mouth that he had the front to goad them back , fuck em northern slaaaags.

First time I’ve left there with a genuine smile of footballing happiness for years , it’s time to believe ……
Bolton have spent a bit and I felt they are really going for it this season. I am not sure they are any stronger than last season however. What did for them in the end last season was an inibility to beat the better sides. You could see the pathway to automatic promotion open up for them a few times but they just couldn't take it.
It is early days but I am thinking that is still an issue for them. Their approach play was excellent, very sharp and tidy but both goals stemmed from their passing out from the back. They also failed to fashion a clear cut chance for all of that approach play. They will definitely be up there but not sure much has changed from last season apart from the League being stronger. The league being stronger is not good news for them seeing as beating good sides may continue to be an issue.
As for us, we are definitely more direct. We do play it out from the back but are clearly drilled into getting it upfield when we sniff pressure and play in a risk averse way which I think is very intelligent. You can't argue with that passing it around style of play when you look at the best but when a team presses you well and you are not the very best, it can be a real area of weakness and I think Bolton showed that yesterday.
We were the only team ever in that and both goals came from exactly how Jones wants us to play out of possession. Press high, pounce on loose balls, heavy touches and mistakes and get it into danger areas as soon as possible. Sometimes that’ll come off, sometimes it won’t, but on average, we’ll create chances that way.
Really impressive performance and comfortable win against a promotion rival. Keep it going.
Again so many positives and a feeling something special is happening.
All a bit Mr Kippling!
Alfie who?!
May I believe & he will outscore any striker that we have
Most likely he will. But I genuinely don't think it matters as Jones is not setting up to have "a goal scorer", he just wants enough goals to win games. And so far, he's got it.

Set off yesterday from Norwich in driving rain 6. Got to my. 88 year old mums in chislehurst at 8.20. me and 10 year old spent 3 hours with her and then off to the valley. He really enjoyed the new fan zone and played 3 matches in The Tussle cage. Brilliant performance. As good as I can remember for some time. Got back to Norwich at 7.30. Both tired but buzzing. Looking forward to the next home game. Trying not to get carried away but after the last few years this is looking like a proper team again. UTA.
Bit of a difference from what I witnessed last season …..Bolton could still be playing this morning and would still be trying to find a way to even get a shot off at goal.
A very long time since I’ve seen a Charlton side so defensively organised. Could have picked a number of MOTM. Great day! Get yourselves down the Valley this season!!

That’s a combined £2-3 million in transfer fees.
Money was spent. It just wasn’t spent well at all, and there was no appetite to spend more to fix the mistakes of the previous round of spending.
Stockley was a decent signing.
SO. FAR IT DOESNT.
All scored by players with their first goals for the club.
CAPITAL. LETTERS. OR. NO. CAPITAL. LETTERS.

Charlton are unbeaten, we can keep clean sheets and we can score more than once.
Lot of very good individual displays but we have a team.
A team that is stronger than its parts, that is organised, knows its task, is fit enough to see games out and has a strong bench.
