Remarkably if NJ wasnt our manager and we were looking to recruit someone to come in and turn things around it would probably be NJ lol15

FWIW I do agree that some of our recruitment hasn't been good enough, just as our recent performances and results haven't been. NJ isn't God. Kept Birmingham up first season and got them their highest points tally in 8 years
Had them in the play offs second season before he was sacked for Rooney (lol)
Went in to Blackburn and kept them up from the drop
Then had Blackburn in the play offs before leaving for the Derby job
Kept Derby up that season and then finished 8th in his first full season
This season has been a disaster for him, but before that he's had multiple successful years in the championship as a manager, getting teams performing above expectations and budget. 3 times he has gone in and kept teams up from relegation and then had them in the play offs the next season
Do people really think we are going to bring in a manager with a better record than that? If so prepare to be disappointed
Hopefully Jones wins this week and it doesn't come to it. But I think people are deluded if they are turning down a manager with a good record of overperforming at this level, thinking we are going to bring in any better
His overall record is better than most managers and definitely better than anyone we could hope to appoint. I think there is some serious delusion on here about the market we will be shopping in for a new manager. I've asked about 6 times and still no one has provided a realistic name that is better than Nathan Jones or John Eustace
look at how much money has been wasted on Apter, Tanto ,Ali, kamakazi, Burke, Ahadme that’s without some of the terrible free agents we brought in like, hernandez, Roussillon, bouzanis, Hylton, Potts and some really poor loans. Unfortunately for him it’s come to the end of the road and a win on Tuesday would only paper over some of the cracks. With people asking who would you bring in, I wouldn’t have a clue as I don’t know how much budget there is and how much pull we are now. All I know is this can not carry on the way we are.
To answer your point, it is no surprise to me that we've had a lot of failures when we are shopping at the level we are. Every club has failures in recruitment. Wrexham and Derby have spent a lot more than us over the past few seasons and are struggling and their fans are incredibly unhappy with their manager and signings. So I think we have to be realistic and say that this isn't just an issue for NJ. The odds of it happening increase when you take more risks, which we have to do due to our small budget.
Hopefully he can turn it around once again but I realise that there's always going to be people that are quick to call for him to go.
I can see the end approaching because I think the situation might be too far gone with some people and I think he is starting to realise that too. I will be incredibly disappointed when it arrives.I agree with virtually all your post.Tuesday night hopefully is a 'Crawley moment' and we can move on with a win and we can look back on this and that we have stayed up in the Championship.Behind all this the board must know that if they are to sell they need to sell a Championship club, with it comes more money in their pockets, but in the meantime they need to release the purse strings.1 -
He’s possibly the best option that might be available to us I think. I like how his teams play in that he’s not nailed down to one style of play or formation, his Stockport side could play good football but also play more direct and mix it physically. He’s also got a ridiculously successful record, don’t think he’s ever managed a full season and not finished in the play offs at leastking addick said:Would Dave Challinor be a prospect?
Not endorsing but curious.Negatives are that he’s never managed in the championship before. And also that he’s currently linked with the Sheffield Wednesday job, and currently their long term prospects are possibly better than ours, plus it being in the north he might rather go there than come to us
If it was up to me and we don’t win this week, he’d certainly be on the list of people to interview0 -
I think you are right, but it’s fucking wrong though isn’t it?, the players just carry on like nothings happened after blatantly getting the fella the tin tack, if this scenario happened.Fortune 82nd Minute said:
Well if this is right, Tuesday will prove once and for all whether the players are still behind Jones.Gravesend_Addick said:"Something needs to change on Tuesday otherwise something else will change "
Sounds like he's been told he must get a result on Tuesday
If they burst a gut and really try to give him the win he needs, then clearly they are still behind him.
If we get another disjointed display where some look as if they cant be bothered, then clearly they want him gone.0 -
My view is that we should think who we would get if Jones is sacked. And would that person be an improvement? I also accept, and it looks like Jones does, that something has to change and quickly. The question is whether that is possible. I'm not sure Jones knows what his best team is and fans are none the wiser either obviously. I think some selections have been difficult to understand. Edwards against Norwich for instance which may have cost us. Skipp and Coventry playing together when it became obvious they can't. But I would apply different rules to jones as he is not conventional and may still be able to turn it round. I hope he can but he is going to need everybody pulling i the same direction and that is alwats difficult in a crisis. I don't think he is going to make a more important team selection in his career than Tuesday night.1
-
I think it is more so on the owners, everything points to them pulling the rug from underneath him. They won’t back anyone else as they want out, we are hearing fuck all from them now, good, bad or ugly.Gravesend_Addick said:From that interview I think Jones knows the writing is on the wall. I think he realises he can't turn it around.
For what it's worth, I don't think he was backed by the board as much as he was expecting this summer & unless the budget is changed in January, I don't think another manager will fare much better.
In my view, the poor summer recruitment is as much on the board as it is Jones3 -
This is what’s currently keeping him in work. And may continue to do so even if we lose on Tuesday.AndyG said:Remarkably if NJ wasnt our manager and we were looking to recruit someone to come in and turn things around it would probably be NJ lol0 -

What we are nearing is the point where it would be better to have a new manager, even if they aren’t as good as Jones, than it would be to keep Jones. Sometimes things do just need freshening up, a different voice or approach. Who that new manager would be is the big question1 -

There's no doubt that the owners have fucked us over by pulling the investment. BUT, i also understand why they would not entrust Jones with much more money. He/Chappell have spunked millions on the wrong players in the WRONG positions. It's in the best interests of the club that Jones goes, then hopefully the owners shortly afterwards. What division we will then be in, is anyone's guess!!0

Been thinking and would I want to run through walls for someone like NJ? Probably not is the truth.
Another manager similar to NJ tactics wise could do the job but do we need someone to inspire and get another 20% out of these players.0 -
But that’s not much of an excuse, they had the power to sack him and give someone else the funds if they had lost faith in the recruitment decisions. Back, sack or crack him!!!!Melrose said:There's no doubt that the owners have fucked us over by pulling the investment. BUT, i also understand why they would not entrust Jones with much more money. In my opinion he has been let down by the owners.
I know it's a bit harder to sell up and go quickly particularly in this climate , and our situation is complex but it's clear that they don't all want to be here- I want them gone as fast as is possible and for us to get in some people that not only care but who speculate to accumulate, easy to say, harder to achieve.
I get the feeling Brener does care as he takes the time to actively fly over from the States and be visible , I respect him for that. Sadly though his pockets can't take all the strain. If the owners didn't trust Jones and Chapple to spend the cash properly (if that's the case) why did they not make changes earlier?
Whatever happens in the long term our team needs to deliver against Bolton, no if's but's or maybe's. As a crowd we need to make it as intimidating for Bolton as is humanly possible. COYR!!!!!!!!!!!1 -
Belive he isn’t too keen on a move down south. Plus a big risk to hire a manager who’s never managed at this level in a relegation battle.king addick said:Would Dave Challinor be a prospect?

Thought that might a factor and as Naby mentioned, Sheffield Weds are keen and a much bigger profile and step up for him whilst staying oop north.stjohnshill said:

If the board let us and Jones down this summer with the ‘powder’ available, what on earth makes anyone think they’ll pay for a better new manager??8

I don’t get the owners strategy really, they’ve stumped up a lot of money so far, they look like they gave up in the summer, but , going down they get less back to make up losses, are they accepting going down for less losses?, surely they’d have been better off doing all they can to have a championship club to sell. Somehow we seem to have a club in limbo again.6
