Are we looking for someone to get us promoted. We need someone to keep us up this season and then help us push up the championship table. Eustace has done that exact requirement at every club he's been at so farElfsborgAddick said:
Has not got a team promoted.NabySarr said:John Eustace in the championship:
Kept Birmingham up first season and got them their highest points tally in 8 years
Had them in the play offs second season before he was sacked for Rooney (lol)
Went in to Blackburn and kept them up from the drop
Then had Blackburn in the play offs before leaving for the Derby job
Kept Derby up that season and then finished 8th in his first full season
This season has been a disaster for him, but before that he's had multiple successful years in the championship as a manager, getting teams performing above expectations and budget. 3 times he has gone in and kept teams up from relegation and then had them in the play offs the next season
Do people really think we are going to bring in a manager with a better record than that? If so prepare to be disappointed
Hopefully Jones wins this week and it doesn't come to it. But I think people are deluded if they are turning down a manager with a good record of overperforming at this level, thinking we are going to bring in any better2 -
If you think we are bringing in a championship promotion winner as our manager then wow. Other than Paul Heckingbottom there's no chance we're doing that0

We spent peanuts last summer.1

They're second from bottom after spending a fortune compared to us and the vast majority of their fans hate his team selections and tactics. He would be such an uninspiring choice. Can't believe you have such a hard on for him.NabySarr said:

His overall record is better than most managers and definitely better than anyone we could hope to appoint. I think there is some serious delusion on here about the market we will be shopping in for a new manager. I've asked about 6 times and still no one has provided a realistic name that is better than Nathan Jones or John Eustace3 -
I don't even want a new manager! I want the board to back NJ in the January transfer window so not sure why you're expecting me to give other options. I'm just disagreeing with you about Eustace.NabySarr said:

Well if this is right, Tuesday will prove once and for all whether the players are still behind Jones.Gravesend_Addick said:"Something needs to change on Tuesday otherwise something else will change "
Sounds like he's been told he must get a result on Tuesday
If they burst a gut and really try to give him the win he needs, then clearly they are still behind him.
If we get another disjointed display where some look as if they cant be bothered, then clearly they want him gone.1 -
This is a side hanging on for a year now at this level. Everyone and his dog knew we needed a midfield overhaul in the summer but it never happened. Not sure replacing Jones will make any difference. But if we keep losing you have to give someone else a go8

From that interview I think Jones knows the writing is on the wall. I think he realises he can't turn it around.
For what it's worth, I don't think he was backed by the board as much as he was expecting this summer & unless the budget is changed in January, I don't think another manager will fare much better.
In my view, the poor summer recruitment is as much on the board as it is Jones8 -

look at how much money has been wasted on Apter, Tanto ,Ali, kamakazi, Burke, Ahadme that’s without some of the terrible free agents we brought in like, hernandez, Roussillon, bouzanis, Hylton, Potts and some really poor loans. Unfortunately for him it’s come to the end of the road and a win on Tuesday would only paper over some of the cracks. With people asking who would you bring in, I wouldn’t have a clue as I don’t know how much budget there is and how much pull we are now. All I know is this can not carry on the way we are.5 -

No that was my potential figure 2-3 years down the line if we got him on a new contract rather than selling him on the cheap as you suggested. Think I actually said £7-10m and it seems he might get there a lot quicker than I thoughtElfsborgAddick said:NabySarr said:

No that was my potential figure 2-3 years down the line if we got him on a new contract rather than selling him on the cheap as you suggested. Think I actually said £7-10m and it seems he might get there a lot quicker than I thoughtElfsborgAddick said:NabySarr said:

Are we looking for someone to get us promoted. We need someone to keep us up this season and then help us push up the championship table. Eustace has done that exact requirement at every club he's been at so farElfsborgAddick said:

But I think people are deluded if they are turning down a manager with a good record of overperforming at this level, thinking we are going to bring in any better
His overall record is better than most managers and definitely better than anyone we could hope to appoint. I think there is some serious delusion on here about the market we will be shopping in for a new manager. I've asked about 6 times and still no one has provided a realistic name that is better than Nathan Jones or John EustaceIn your opinion. To be honest you seem to know so much I don't know why Charlton do not appoint you and we'll be winning the Champions League in the next three seasons. You have all the answers.

Yet you think a new manager would make any difference with the current squad?NabySarr said:
It’s more that there’s a big break after the next 3 games. So we can then do a proper recruitment process to bring in a new manager if neededFAVADDICK said:
I don’t get this next 3 games, he’s had 9 games some against some really poor opponents and walked away being spanked by most of them and people just want to potentially throw away another 9 points playing boring terrible football when realistically we should be beating 2 out of the next 3 teams.NabySarr said:
I’m sure the same was said on here after the Bristol Rovers, Crawley and Millwall games. He deserves the next 3 games to try and turn it around like he did on those 3 occasionsDennisBooth said:I am sorry but I can’t see anything but us losing the next three games. The players look demoralised and Jones seems to have run out of ideas. It is like shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic.
We should be beating Bolton, but not sure Sheffield United is a “should be beating” game. Compare our starting eleven to theirs and maybe 2 of our players would get in theirs. Most teams we play are simply much better than us player for player and Sheffield United is no different2 -

FWIW I do agree that some of our recruitment hasn't been good enough, just as our recent performances and results haven't been. NJ isn't God. I just happen to think he's done a good job as manager since taking over and deserves more time and to be backed by our owners, rather than having to shop in the bargain bins.FAVADDICK said:
Why does jones deserve to be backed in January, as his track record on recruitment has not been good has it.ProperCharlton said:
I don't even want a new manager! I want the board to back NJ in the January transfer window so not sure why you're expecting me to give other options. I'm just disagreeing with you about Eustace.NabySarr said:

look at how much money has been wasted on Apter, Tanto ,Ali, kamakazi, Burke, Ahadme that’s without some of the terrible free agents we brought in like, hernandez, Roussillon, bouzanis, Hylton, Potts and some really poor loans. Unfortunately for him it’s come to the end of the road and a win on Tuesday would only paper over some of the cracks. With people asking who would you bring in, I wouldn’t have a clue as I don’t know how much budget there is and how much pull we are now. All I know is this can not carry on the way we are.
To answer your point, it is no surprise to me that we've had a lot of failures when we are shopping at the level we are. Every club has failures in recruitment. Wrexham and Derby have spent a lot more than us over the past few seasons and are struggling and their fans are incredibly unhappy with their manager and signings. So I think we have to be realistic and say that this isn't just an issue for NJ. The odds of it happening increase when you take more risks, which we have to do due to our small budget.
Hopefully he can turn it around once again but I realise that there's always going to be people that are quick to call for him to go.
I can see the end approaching because I think the situation might be too far gone with some people and I think he is starting to realise that too. I will be incredibly disappointed when it arrives.4 -
Would Dave Challinor be a prospect?
Not endorsing but curious.0 -
I think the players will turn up for him on Tuesday and get the win. Hopefully we then go on a bit of a run with Sheffield Utd and Lincoln being winnable games at home.2
