Will be harsh on those who work with Jones, but when he goes its got to be Nathan and the whole backroom staff that goes with him - When we get the new man in, need to get whatever staff they want, and have worked with previously... Whatever it costs.
couldnt care less about backroom team- clearly they are pants too!
Fleming has been around under two naff managers, henderson clearly not up to being a half decent GK Coach and Brayne just doesnt add anything to the mix...
Knee jerk sacking managers when the team are on a poor run seldom results in a positive change. But ... we need to consider these questions:
- is the team under performing based on money spent?
- has the team been under performing for a sustained period of time?
- were the new players in the team selected by the manager?
- are we playing the style of football that is unlikely to keep the fans on board?
- could there be a problem with the players not 'getting' the manager?
- does the manager appear to not be handling the pressure very well?
- has the manager failed to accept there is a systemic problem?
If some of those questions result in a 'yes' then there is a potential problem. If ALL of the questions can be answered with a 'yes' then there is almost certainly an insurmountable problem.
In my opinion the answer is Yes to all of those questions.
This isn’t the style we should be bringing academy prospects into.
We’ve had more than a few dreadful squads in the last 20 years but Jones has created the dullest of them all.
I don’t want the tippy tappy stuff we saw under Garner but can we get a manager capable of finding the right balance between attacking play and stopping other teams from playing?
I could put up with it if we were effective but we’re nowhere near that.
My fear is the narrow score lines will keep Jones in the job for a while. We’re not being dominated or torn apart, we’re just seeing the same issues we’ve seen since he took over.
His increased demands on intensity, aggression and effort kept us up last season. However despite a top 6 budget and full preseason we’re no better off than last season. He’s purposely avoided signing attacking players who can offer width, pace or flair.
I expected progress in some form but I struggle to see Jones changing his ways enough to properly turn this around.
Do the board and owners want to give him another window? They must already have an idea of the type of players he wants to bring in. I would guess it’s more of the same rather than wingers and creative midfielders.
We’re not going to grind our way to the Championship playing this “style” but Jones looks to me like a manager set in his ways.
Did a good job when he came in when I thought we were going down. Never built on that momentum despite blagging those early wins. Really wanted him to do well but I’m afraid jones times up.

Thats my point... In recent seasons, we've focused on sacking the Manager, getting the new guy in and going: "Here's the backroom team, work with what is already here", its basically sacking a Manager on the cheap - Both goals we've conceded tonight have been witnessed far too often beyond the regime of Jones, defenders playing musical statutes whilst scorers being on their toes and following up and lose balls palmed by the Goalkeeper.
Atkins couldn't bring Crosby with him... Garner wasnt able to bring in Lindsay (who seems the mastermind behind that Swindon team), and now it looks like Jones wasnt able to bring Cohen with him, from previous Managerial tasks - Because our owners have looked at the problem with tunnel vision.
Same with the Recruitment; all this talk about getting Ferguson in because he's done well at Peterborogh - Yeah thats the only place he has done well because he works damn well with the setup that is Fry (Scouting) / MacAnthony (Negotiating), he wouldnt get that here - Same it seems with Jones @ Luton, he had Mick Harford upstairs, whereas we have Andy Scott!!
Thought it was a really exciting appointment but this has got to end. Turgid football, constant formation changes and I just can't see him turning it around.
Out done by a 5 minute in the job Rob Elliot who knew exactly his own teams strengths & literally done a job on Jones team of Luton cloggers & the rest of the crap on the pitch, prob only look good in training cause it’s against ourselves…
I was happy when we got Jones in and I’m very patient, we can't keep chopping and changing but I don't see any identity. People say we've not backed him but I bet our wage bill is top 6 in the league.
Apart from the press I really don't see anything in us, and against majority of teams a press is pointless as they go back to front. Jones had a-lot of say on the signings, he chose to go with barely any pace in the team and one winger in a squad. He's got a-lot to answer to.
The anti football wouldn't be so bad if the players put in effort. Playing hard and being hard to beat is his supposed ethos. Instead, we're low quality and half arsed from top to bottom.
One of the most inept managerial performances I have seen tonight. Set the team up poorly, awful tactics, baffling substitutions. He has to go. Sadly with Scott running a recruitment process the next guy won't be any better.
They just narrowly got beaten by an impressive Lincoln team 3-4 in the FA Cup on the weekend - Elliot is getting momentum with them there - Not saying we've gone into this game far too cocky, more the fact that if Crawley did that to us... What are Lincoln going to do!!
Brings me on to the next point, it would be great if the SMT had prepared for the "What if" when Jones eventually didnt work out and had an eye on young / upcoming Managerial options, so we were somewhat prepared for when the time to move Jones on came.
Need to go out and try and locate the next McKenna / Buckingham / Skubala (Lincoln Manager) now.
Dont give a shit about finding a Manager based on what they've done previously, we've tried that, all we've been able to prove is that a Manager's CV is only as good as their last job... We need to go and find the next decent coach who is highly rated in their field, and wants to take a step into Management.
Funnily again, thats where we've tended to be successful, taking a punt on Curbishley / Powell / Bowyer
That was utterly dismal, if we were playing well and good to watch and losing, I’d stomach it, but that was just dreadful, we were playing Crawley. The football is so bad, we are lucky there are so many bad teams in this league

Maybe its a case of a manager is only as good as the players he has avaialble?
Been saying give him to the end of the season but genuinely not sure anymore. Terrible football, terrible signings.
If we're not in danger of a relegation scrap then sack or stick and see how Rob Elliott (or another) progresses over the season, young coach without delusions of being a league one Pep and will have earned some decent experience.
I wasn't going to say anything but I can't help myself. That was horrible again. The highlight was Brownie saying "we could play longer" or words to that effect. Laughed out loud. Longer ? Really ? Allan Campbell MOM says a lot too. Blimey we are in trouble.
Its Groundhog Day. Similar to when Duchatelet was in charge. If the budget is insufficient, & there are gaping holes in team then most managers are going to get exposed.
Not defending Jones but what manager or team is going to succeed or flourish under the current circumstances ?
Comments
He had a short period of success at Southampton and has been a failure everywhere else since
Jones did well at Luton and hopeless at all his other clubs
His only tactic seems to be a long diagonal ball it’s totally painful
Where do we find them from
Fleming has been around under two naff managers, henderson clearly not up to being a half decent GK Coach and Brayne just doesnt add anything to the mix...
Same excuses every week, same utterly turgid football every week.
I'm done with him. He needs to go, along with all of his back room staff.
Please sack the guy…even Appleton set us up better.
One of the worst managers we’ve ever had.
In my opinion the answer is Yes to all of those questions.
The players can’t believe in or enjoy this.
Nothing for fans to get behind.

Scott and Rodwell can go too.
Worst team we’ve played all season 😂

He's built a poor League One side playing poor League One football. No thanks.

Jones sets us up with a style and mentality of a non-league club in League 1 from 20+ years ago.
