We stuck by Curbs when we were going through a long losing streak, because we could see what he was trying to do, and we had faith in his ability to work through it. With Jones, I have no idea what his game plan is, other than to "be front footed", "press", "aggressive", "out work the opposition" blah blah. If he wanted to retain his job, he'd be trying to keep supporters, and the board, onside by acknowledging the shortcomings of the team in the hope that we'll get behind him and give him the chance to get it right in January.
Instead he just trots the same old BS every week "that's not us", "it won't happen again".

Nail on the head mate. I really thought NJ would sort the club out and if he didn’t keep spouting that shit I would be far more onside with him but as gas as I’m concerned he is trying to take the supporters as mugs. We are Charlton fans for gods sake if anyone recognises bullshit it’s us
Jones keeps prompting 'athleticism' as a requirement from his players, but they are anything but; midfield is white, short-arsed and slow. Potts is not an athlete despite being a reasonable player. Neither is REG who I'm sure would have been sanctioned by NJ despite signing prior. Godden is not an athlete. Ahadme must be the slowest striker in L1.
I'm sorry, white? Why has that been mentioned, what's the relevance
Yes, very odd, had to read it twice to make sure I’d not made a mistake. Hopefully he meant something else.
I’m sure due to the cost implications he will be given more time than he perhaps deserves but if performances and results don’t improve radically he will be gone. Owners won’t keep spunking £14m a year whilst watching crowds fall and league positions drop

I have a feeling that he won't be sacked. Don't know why, apart from the cost.
I think we should try and ride this through but will not be surprised if he's clearing his desk soon. Recent posts suggesting the Americans having sufficient money to get rid are fair enough. Who comes in and who recruits will be interesting. If Jones gets the bullet others MUST follow immediately.
Times up NJ, the SMT can go with him, take the Luton rejects out the club along with Hylton. We really could have done with Curbs as a DOF for a period to get the right people in to run the club, not sure why Paul Elliot has come back into the Club. There is no impact from these clowns.
Sunderland fans were right about Charlie boy, you can't trust these people, and they are f*****g our club over, we all deserve better from these chancers!
Jones should have been sacked weeks ago. That he hasn't been suggests that the ownership have completely lost interest in the club. Worrying times.
Can’t believe that. What have you seen to suggest that the ownership have lost interest? I think it’s more likely they’ve given him time because of his rhetoric and what he did at Luton. But his time must be running out now.
Im sure that the ownership are looking very closely at what is going on. They started this season full of hope and expectation ( as did we as fans ) yet before even Xmas has arrived they find themselves in a position where all there is left is negativity. Crowds are falling and even the die hard fans ( as seen on here ) are losing interest like never before, not even during the bad days of Duchelet or even Mouthall have we seen this reaction in terms of losing patience with the team. I really dont think this is down to results its more to do with the performances, CAFC fans can take losing but not watching the shite that NJ is dishing up. Fail to win the next couple of games he will be gone Im sure
I was hoping that I was wrong in thinking that Jones was an utter moron for pushing our top goalscorer out of the club for peanuts.
I was expecting to be proved right, and that he was a moron.
I think they SMT have wanted NJ gone for weeks but have been hoping that Cardiff or Luton come in for him so we don’t have to pay another huge compensation package

Luton are absolutely awful away but have picked up at home recently with 10 points from their last 4 home games, so i think Edwards will be given a bit longer there.
It would be very interesting to see the results of a poll on here regarding NJ staying or going
It feels like the majority are Jones out now. I think a defeat on Saturday will be the final straw for most of the rest, including myself.
With Jones and hopefully Coventry back in the starting line up on Saturday, we will pretty much be full strength (other than Ramsay and Mannion). So if results don’t pick up before January then Jones will have to go

I hate the fact that the doomsters always seemed to be proved right, and it's no consolation that they hate that too.
I'd luv it if NJ turned it around. Luv it, but I've seen our last three games on Sky, from start to finish.
The people you are referring too, probably me included are not doomsters, we just don’t see everything through rose tinted glasses
I have been heavily criticized by others on here for stating the following very early in the season however when you look closely……….
“We will finish 7th to 12th” “Ahadme is a hopeless player” ”Wrexham will finish above us” ”Jones could be gone by Christmas”
100%.
There is absolutely zero pleasure in being “proved right”. I would LOVE to be shown up as a fool who knows nothing and see us romp to promotion. I was ecstatic when Jones changed the formation and we produced that wonderful performance against Birmingham neither of which I had thought would happen.
However; I find it very bizarre when season after season, window after window, people start lauding signings who they had never heard of prior to then joining and praising our board for clever recruitment and savvy business - based on a look at their Wikipedia page or a handful of other clubs fan’s tweets, instead of watching them play and commenting on what they actually see.
I watched the Pompey friendly, and by the end of the Wigan game it was pretty clear and by the end of the Orient game absolutely clear that Ahadme and Campbell were clearly going to be a substantial downgrade on any strike force containing Alfie May, who almost instantly last pre season you could see was a great footballer.
Yet for weeks and months and even very recently there were still people intimating the contrary despite the clear evidence before their eyes.
Luke Berry played 17 games in the Prem last season don’t ya know!

Bannable comment
Hardly, even if he meant white.
I suppose it would have been okay if he had referenced another ethnicity then?

Sure, its ok to try and use white ethnicity as a negative, well done.
Since January 2021, only 1 Charlton manager has been in post for 2 consecutive transfer windows (Dean Holden, and even he had 2 different ownership groups to deal with). In the last 3 windows, 3 different managers have gone out and recruited entirely different profiles of player.
I don't know if Jones is the right answer any more, but I honestly believe that the constant changing of manager and recruitment strategy is doing more damage than any amount of hoof-ball tactics.
Agree with this sentiment but Jones isn’t the one to commit to.
I understand why a lot of people think this, and the football is truly hard to watch right now, but the trouble I have is that it's the same argument that gets aired whenever we go through a bad spell with any manager.
Jackson, Adkins, Garner, Holden, Appleton were also "not the right ones" to commit to. The experienced managers like Adkins were 'past it' or 'living off former glories', the young ones like Garner were 'naive' or 'unproven at the level'. Appleton didn't care enough, Jones can't control his emotions. They're either too stubborn to change their tactics, or they switch things up and get accused of not knowing their best XI.
There always seems to be a reason why it won't work, and always this implicit belief that a new manager with different strengths (and weaknesses) will bring the best out of this club. But when it comes to speculating on who that manager should be, there is zero alignment across the fanbase on what we all want.
I sometimes wonder if the reason why we only seem to do well with club legends in charge is because they're the only people with enough credit in the bank to avoid getting sacked when the team goes through its inevitable troughs in performance.

I think that’s more a modern day thing. I really doubt Powell would have survived to be our manager for promotion in 2011/12 if it had happened nowadays, because the pressure and toxicity from the stands would have had him sacked the previous year

I would have been fine sticking with Jacko or Holden.

It's true. There's no easy answer to this. No magic pill to swallow. However, Jones is proving he is incapable. There are no little green shoots to hang out hats on. The football is absolutely dire. We could all live with it if we were winning 1-0 week after week but we're not. The defence is leaky and the attacking threat is null and void. Jones, his style of play and this squad really have absolutely nothing to shout about.

The most athletic/explosive players are disproportionately black African/Caribbean. Is that really something that can't be noted when it's screamingly obvious to anyone who watches football from primary school level upwards? It was certainly something that stood out during our recent humiliation against Crawley.

It’s interesting because I personally feel Holden was the worst of the bunch. Tactically poor and lived off of good vibes. Players started last season unbelievably unfit.
I’m convinced the ownership didn’t want to give Dean the job long term, but Thomas forced their hand by appointing to a longer contract while in talks with Spiegel.
