when it comes to formation, maybe we have to give up on the 3-5-2 one as are players are not good enough to play it. It seems to me we lost the previous games because we attempted to play that way to try to be more out and out attack and it does not work for us. An issue that we have to deal with against so called weaker teams, will be dealing with long balls out. I do not want to see our defenders having to turn round and try to catch a player who gets behind them onto the long ball which we have seen often, it may mean sitting deep then. Play to the strengths and weaknesses of our squad.
Special shout out for TC at the end. They didn’t know how to handle him and he seemed to win every duel, their defenders had no chance
Agree. Very clever of NJ to replace Kanu with TC rather than either Aneke or Leaburn. That mobility and pace allowed us to keep up the pressing game and stretch their defence more.
Anyone know what the Big Nath/Stansfield moment was?
I think Jones was trying to be peacemaker as I think a one of our players had a few words with Stansfield just after the whistle Jones was on the pitch already to celebrate & just stepped in to break it up / calm it down.
Correct, Mitchell said something to Stansfield that kicked it off & then left the scene. Jones innocently walked into the aftermath. You can take the man out of Millwall but...
Don't know about anyone else, but I was expecting Mark Fish to come out looking like a bloated whale when he was announced. Couldn't believe the trim figure that emerged, in fact I didn't recognise him at first and was looking around. Sorry Mark, no offence
The futures bright, the futures 442 - i'd say our back 4 is as good as it gets in league 1 and our keeper is solid. Our midfield is as hard working as it gets in league 1 when they stick to what they are good at and out of our collection of strikers, we have enough. I think we can make the play offs if we can work our a way of playing against the 'little' teams when they don't try and play football and we can't nick the ball off them. That appears to be the puzzle that NJ has to solve. Give us possession starting at our own keeper and we don't really know what to do with it so NJ and his team have to work something out.
Also, I love it when Charlton ram my criticisms down my throat. But honestly, where did that performance come from. I did say before the game that I expected us to raise our game, but that was exceptional and a really enjoyable game to boot. The task now will be to replicate that performance against mediocre sides who don't set out to attack like Birmingham.
No idea why we are all so surprised by this result it’s what we do isn’t it !! The best thing about the international break is that we won’t have the depression on the inevitable defeat at Burton to contend with after that fantastic performance yesterday 😂

I think he had a wake up call a few years back with a heart attack, obviously took it serious and has done something about it.

Oh, wow. Didn't know that. Feel guilty about my frivolity now.
Another thing. Can we keep Edwards on set-piece delivery. (I mean, other than perhaps free kicks just outside the box. Then you may as well toss a coin)
Bloody good watch that from over here in France, Ramsey very good, Jones MoM for me though, T Campbell could be one hell of a player his pace must be terrifying for tiring defences.
Wow. Can’t believe where that performance came from after playing like muppets the two previous games. Totally different attitude from the players selected and everyone put in a shift. Anderson still like a headless chicken if he could control his passing and final ball he’d be a decent player. But saying that he spoilt there players from having it easy and with the rest of the team it was pretty good. T Campbell was a person possessed when he came on run them all over the place if only he could do that when he starts. I think having him as an impact sub is where he should be.
Tactically it was spot on and let’s hope we can push on. Didn’t like NJ after on radio London saying I know what I’m doing and if people are not happy I’ll go and work elsewhere. Not the smartest interview but I guess he was hurting like all of us. Just hope he’s not putting feelers out to leave.
One thing for certain he won’t beat the fan base.
Let’s hope he can get us to push on but we will see.
Having seen the highlights, have we got Josh Parker in as striker coach? Some of the chances Kanu missed yesterday had real Parker vibes.
The same Josh Parker that went over 50 games without scoring in EFL from the beginning of his career including seven matches at Aberdeen. Professional striker/Forward coaches always say get into the positions to score and be selfish unless you see an easy pass on. I have watched the acute angle miss in real time a dozen times and the majority of strikers would have attempted to score their selves. Just too acute and a slide pass across may have lead to a tap in goal.
Daniel Kanu will go on to be a goal scoring striker, at least at League one level and probably the Championship; if he doesn't get affected by injuries which has halted Miles Leaburn's career so far. I have always believed that one day the prolific goal scorer from School and Academy football would crack it and kick on from the 10 goals he scored from 23/24; even after yesterday when it just wouldn't go in for Kanu. Simon Francis, Joe Pigott, Morgan Fox and Michael Smith were all written off at CAFC and I went out on a limb and said they would all have good careers and could even play higher than CAFC. They all did play higher other than Joe who at least received a good contract at Ipswich for a couple of years after his exploits at Wimbledon.
Please slag me off if Daniel Kanu is playing in the national league South in the 25/26 season !
DK, Prove the couple of 🤡 🤡 wrong on the CL match thread, I looked at last night 🤞🏻
Edit: Matt Godden has just said Kanu is the best presser of the ball he has seen; praise indeed from a 33 year old who has been a Professional footballer for 15 years.
Daniel Kanu scores 1 in every 8 in League one in his career so far. Josh Parker scored 1 in every 8 over his career in League one so clearly not comparable at all.
I get it - he is a young player and can improve. I do expect him to have a better career than Parker but what has he shown that indicates he is championship standard? The lower leagues and non league are littered with players who scored for fun at the youth level. Kanu is a poaching forward. He is not big enough to be a traditional number nine and not quick enough to be a channel running type forward so if he is going to have success it is going to be find spaces in the box and being incredibly efficient scoring. He hasn’t shown that yet
That is what we have been waiting for all season. A proper team performance and Ramsay was outstanding. Great credit to the management for yesterday and i have been critical of Jones and just hope this isnt a one off. Well done.
Fully agree...my thoughts entirely - onward and upward!! COYR!!!
Thoroughly deserved win, and such a good team performance to a man, by the way, I thought they had a match winner by the name of May...didn't see anything of him, and subbed at half time... Must say it was a great game to be at, and shame that apparently so many were determined not to go, forcasting all sorts of doom and gloom results. So a week off and we go again in a couple of weeks at home to Stockport County, lets just hope we can keep up this new found determination and get backup the table, can see no reason why not...👍

Watched the live stream at home along with my Birmingham City supporting neighbour. We are still speaking. He thought Birmingham played badly, not sure he could bring himself to say Charlton were the better team on the day.
Interesting to see Charlie Methven on the pitch by the tunnel at the end hugging some of the players.
Only real disappointment yesterday were the home numbers. One of only two relatively high profile games this season but numbers wise it was very low, smaller than other homes this season. West and East quite noticeably.
Don't thing the recent form + Cat A pricing would have helped, but I suspect better numbers were hoped.
Having Cat A prices in League One is an utter piss take. Not that long ago Wrexham coming to town in the League Cup or FA Cup and we'd have been dropping the price to a tenner or £15. Now it's £30 for a third tier match. I guess it's a way to squeeze a few bob more out of a sold out away end but even then it's an extra £3 a person so 3,000 x £3 brings in a gross of £9k. All well and good but the other effect is to play a part in keeping our own fans away. Counterproductive surely.
I'm bringing a few neutrals along for the Wrexham game but telling them it's 30 nicker to get in is some kind of joke. Whatever figure we choose to announce as the attendance it only takes a cursory look around the stadium to see it's not even half full. So yeah, let's crank the price up.
I have just watched the Nathan Jones post match interview. He seems to be really hurt by recent criticism, what I was wondering is where he is reading it or hearing it. The only instance he was specific about was getting abuse from our fans away, presumably at Stevenage and Bristol.
Felt a bit sorry for Edwards having to run across the pitch to take corners and long throw ons. He did look knackered late on. Anderson never looks tired. He really did bust a gut today. I expect Ramsey to play great (my MOM) but Alan Campbell also played well. It was like we had tigers in our midfield!
A good all round report on the match from a Birmingham perspective, and refreshing to hear that they were outmaneuvered in every area of the pitch, reading between the lines, I think they thought it was three points in the bag...only it was our bag not theirs as it turned out...

4am at Ramsey's stag do...

Pleased I lost my Alfie May anytime scorer bet.
Let's hope we gain confidence from that victory and press on up the table.
