    Marvellous that we won that.

Pleased I lost my Alfie May anytime scorer bet.

Let's hope we gain confidence from that victory and press on up the table.
Len…just out of interest, what were the odds for us to win?
    100/30 my mate got
  • Only real disappointment yesterday were the home numbers. One of only two relatively high profile games this season but numbers wise it was very low, smaller than other homes this season. West and East quite noticeably.

Don't thing the recent form + Cat A pricing would have helped, but I suspect better numbers were hoped.
I and I think many others have had the flu this week, I wonder if that made a dent as it seems to be about at the moment

Had it all week, but felt better Saturday morning.
  • We make excuses all the time , the fixture list is beyond dull to the neutral / not so committed Addick
a winning team pushing for promotion later on at the end of the season may get some extra bums on seats in the home end not fabricated numbers cos we’ve given more unused tickets away .

Bielek wrote the memo but his teammates didn’t get it…it was sent to the Charlton players instead. They got it.
  • Match-winner Matty Godden on Birmingham triumph (October 2024) | Charlton Athletic Football Club (charltonafc.com)

Good to get a view from a players perspective, and who better than goal scorer Matty Godden...

On our goal, which Birmingham fans reckon was soft, and not much of a goal, and the ball shouldn’t have bounced I disagree.
For a start Godden positioned himself to protect the bounce and a defender would have needed very flexible and long legs to nick the ball away. For a second we have been aware that Edwards has a long throw that can now be utilised. Long throws are a pain for defences to deal with, and we exploited that, Birmingham should’ve known about it, they will face plenty of long throws in this division anyway.
For a third a 180 degree turn and finish just inside the post, whilst under some pressure is quite a skill. Godden is an experienced striker and it wasn’t luck but skill combined with a good team move that got us the goal.
Not a soft goal in the slightest. A good goal.

Sour grapes Seth, and the same can be said after watching their managers post match guff...
Sorry just haven't used the work guff since school!

  • A soft goal to concede I guess when you see a throw-in bounce inside the penalty box, but one which Godden made possible with craft and guile.

To be fair, we show this trait too. We've tired of labelling numerous goals that we've conceded as 'goal of the season contenders' (possibly approx 5+ just this season), by instead focusing on the space/gap/time left by the midfielders.

Focusing on your team's inadequacies, rather than congratulating the opposition's wizardry is pretty normal.
  • Godden is a natural finisher, wonder how many goals he would have got if he was on instead of Gas and TC? Really hope he has an injury free season and hes defo got one of the striker spots, and then its a fight between the rest for who partners him...

Hopefully Leaburn comes in as the big target man next to him. Really gutted Gas hasn't worked out so far. I had high hopes from pre season.

If we had conceded a goal like that people would be going (rightly) mad about it
Exactly, their right back completely misses the header. Dreadful goal to concede

    Gutted for the guy...🙄

...Still needed the skill and awareness by Godden to take advantage of it, which he did
  • I think Brum have been pretty poor defensively this season. Conceded a goal in nearly every league game. They usually just have so much attacking talent to overcome this.mendonca said:

  • Wonder if Taylor or Mitchell will replace CC, or whether Doherty/Campbell will take up different roles, with Berry coming back in.

I would like to think that now that A. Campbell and Doherty did really well in their own favoured positions the logical choice would be putting Taylor in as a like for like swap for Coventry.

So Jones will probably be putting Edwards in midfield and Tyreece at full back and Doherty as an actual striker because he just can't help himself sometimes....

I thought Wendy fans were the worst for baffling arrogance but Brum have got them beaten by some distance
  • They are both in that group of clubs, that are instantly dislikeable outside of their own support base.

    Wendies
    Brum
    Palarse

At least the Spanners are comedy value.

Add Dirty Leeds to that list. Hilarious for all other supporters to see their keeper spilling one in the dying seconds last week.

    With Fish and Bartlett
I'm glad you told us @HardyAddick because I hadn't clicked and I assumed one of them was you! Seems so obvious now with hindsight.
I would say though that although Bartlett is looking as fresh as a daisy, that shot of Mark Feeesh is looks like something that belongs on the things that make you feel old thread.
  • I only wish I had been a good footballer!!

REG could be another option. I do think it should be like for like and keep everyone else in their roles that worked so well on Saturday
