  • A great game, which Charlton probably should have won be a couple more, a good ref, and wasn’t it lovely to see the valley really rocking. Birmingham fans I thought were very quiet, but perhaps they expected a walkover.
Not sure I agree the ref was good. Not terrible, but I thought he was overly fussy.
The best thing about him was he was equally fussy to both teams.
  • So selling May was a good decision! :)

A lot of money , really Chris???? Our squad probably cost 1/3 of Jay Stansfield.
    Kidding mate nowhere mear

i think the net amount of money that left our bank account this summer was close to £0. Birmingham spent 10-15m whatever it was on just one player alone…
  • I liked Alfie May a lot and I wish we'd kept him, but regardless there is something very gratifying about May getting hauled off at halftime and the player we got in to replace him scoring the winner.
Going to be a bit of a confidence knock for Alfie as well; gets dropped for a few games after Birmingham sign two strikers over him, gets given a start and doesn't make it past halftime, becoming surely one of the only former Charlton players in recorded history to not score against us. Can't feel good.
We made him look very ordinary today. As he tended to do for us any time he came up against half decent defenders.

When he can’t get the football in shooting positions, it’s like playing with 10 men. Not surprised he got hooked.
How many goal attempts did £12m pound Stansfield have, though?

Our players seem to gel today and the game was won because we were first to every loose ball which enabled us to be on the front foot more. We made our own luck by being more determined.

He looked rubbish against our second string in the league cup as well, though I assumed that was because it was a bit of a cameo in a match that didn't matter much. Bet Lloyd Jones loves playing against him
  • Didn't make it today, down in Devon but listening to the commentary there were some big performances from players who, rightly, had taken some criticism. Allan Campbell and Docherty sounded as if they refused to be beaten. So pleasing to keep a clean sheet and in Godden we have quality in the box. Can someone let ctAddick know that Alfie May didn't score today and if any striker is denied service, there is a very good chance they won't and that's exactly what Charlton did today, magnificent !
  • Our win today has also shown the rest of the division....... that Birmingham are not invincible.

    Hahahah what a twerp
Few Birmingham fans are claiming on Reddit that this is a comment in jest from Davies as apparently its something he has to face whenever Birmingham win, and gets that comment from the losing Managers.

  • Diamonds are just boxes for wankers. I'm glad we've moved away from the 3 at the back. I've never been a fan of 3 defender formations and with the solidity we have in Mitchell and Jones and the recovery pace we have in Ramsay I don't really see the need for the extra defender. None of the CBs are moving into midfield and we're wasting the extra man. There was too much pressure on the wingbacks to create AND facilitate clean sheets and it just wasn't happening. Having two deep midfielders and two advanced was much better and we can still have two strikers on. We asked Docherty to do his usual thing of getting about and causing trouble, Anderson to provide energy and ACampbell to show why he's always played a level above.
I hope we keep the new shape, you could tell Jones wanted to move to it last season but was so scarred by the atrocious diamond showing we saw briefly last season he backed off hard. We were asking too much of players in unusual roles and this box might just suit them better, we'll see. Either way, we've not really been troubled by a team that cost tens of millions to put together and we made Alfie May look like Tresor Kandol. Lovely stuff
Agree with what you say about 3-5-2. We’ve never really looked good playing it, and have not had that defender who can step into the midfield comfortably which makes that formation work so well.

Perhaps Zach Mitchell in the future, but in the meantime I’d much rather see us play 4 at the back.

Deflection! Talking about another player is not a defence of Alfie May, he was poor

Shout out for Kanu and T Campbell today, Bielik and pals will be having nightmares about their pace tonight. And our 3rd youth product, Anderson, had his best game in months.
Anderson was much better because he was further forward. No idea why we’ve been trying to play him deeper, he’s not ready for that role yet. But further forward his energy is useful
  • I’m glad Ahadme was dropped. He needed taking out of the firing line and he’s now got to build back up his confidence and has a point to prove. He’ll get his chance again if he wants it enough. I still don’t think he’s a bad player.
Injured I thought? Either way, we were definitely better without him
  • I really think that Brum having seen our last three games, well and truly underestimated us today.
I don’t think that they were expecting us to play anything like that after our shambles at Bristol.
    Well played to everyone today
  • Great win, fully deserved, just can’t believe Coventry got himself booked for time wasting.
