No idea where that performance came from after the last month, but huge congratulations to everyone who played a part in putting out such a hard working, cohesive performance.
THAT was the Charlton I expected this season and why I’ve been so disappointed we’ve looked a mile away from that.
For what it’s worth, you could see the difference in pressing between May & Kanu today @PragueAddick. There’s no way Alfie gets us that ball for Kanu’s first chance and Birmingham looked like they were pressing with 9 men first half as Stansfield was also rubbish at it
Karoy deserves a special mention also today, has had a poor run of performances in recent weeks and had some stick online but was excellent today with his work rate and pressing and used the ball well, could of had a goal if Kanu rolled it across
There you go....old school 4 4 2. Get everyone working hard and it still works. Birmingham had no answers. They could still be playing now and the wouldn't have scored. Absolutely toothless.
Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but we haven't actually dropped a single point from a winning position yet all season have we? We also have not conceded later than the 76th minute (league or cup games) and have already equalled the number of clean sheets we had all last season - after just 10 games?
So essentially our "points per goal" premium (a concept I just made up) is so much higher than it was last season or even the season before.
It was interesting how the Birmingham fans applauded their team for ages after the game.
The thing about us, is that other teams and supporters still see us as a big team. If Birmingham had lost to Stevenage or Bristol Rovers without a shot on target, I'm sure the reaction would have been different.

Today hopefully instills the belief we can compete with the top teams and play with that intensity against everyone and we'll be up there abouts come end of the season.
Great win, fully deserved, just can’t believe Coventry got himself booked for time wasting.
Just means upcoming suspension may give a chance to new signing Tommy Taylor to see what he can do! Coventry was excellent and do not even think he was deliberately time wasting.
Just got home What can I say, I was expecting a real drubbing today after our last 3 performances. To all the people on here who predicted a win I salute you. I'm off on holiday next week and this is the perfect send off. Predicting Charlton results would bankrupt me as every time I predict a win we lose and every time I predict a loss we win. Have a good weekend everyone. COYA

I get massively frustrated with him from a football point of view, but I can’t ignore the fact his workload and work ethic is immense.

That’s a really disappointing comment. Why is there “no way”? You previously said he pressed in an “undisciplined” way, which had me listening. Now you appear to suggest he would never have chased that ball. Thats nonsense. He’s not Derek Hales, he chased down a lot of lost cause balls last season. More to the point, had he got that ball in that position, its a goal, as with Kanu’s 2nd chance closer to half time. If Stansfield is “rubbish at pressing” too, maybe that questions the obsession with strikers pressing rather than scoring.
Dan Kanu was great today and I want him to go on to be even better so that he either scores from that chance or, in that case, recognises that a simple pass to Anderson was the right choice. Would Alfie have made that pass? That’s a more pertinent question.
I know Brum made 5 substitutions and I had to ask my son if Stansfield finished the match (I'm not as sharp as I used to be). Apparently he was there at the end ... how much did he cost?
Charlton just when you feel like giving up they go and do this. Great performance especially the 4 in midfield especially as you can’t play 4 in midfield nowadays apparently.

Lets hope today was the catalyst 👍
The bad news for him is that he's turned himself into the perfect supersub, when you want someone to run at tired defences!
Ramsay is our best player currently
The midfield looks better with Docherty in it even if he himself isn't have a storming game
Godden is our goal threat, and we need to work out who should be his strike partner moving forwards
Coventry makes us tick, just get someone else to take corners and free kicks
Leaburn didn't even get on the pitch today, having that in your pocket is a wonderful thing

Well done boys and Jones.
Exactly the response needed.

Would not be surprised if other teams try to copy what we did today.
