That is the standard now, we have to reach that level of commitment and effort every match going forward, no excuses
Do that and we'll be Champions!
We will be in the playoff mix for sure!

I liked Alfie May a lot and I wish we'd kept him, but regardless there is something very gratifying about May getting hauled off at halftime and the player we got in to replace him scoring the winner.
Going to be a bit of a confidence knock for Alfie as well; gets dropped for a few games after Birmingham sign two strikers over him, gets given a start and doesn't make it past halftime, becoming surely one of the only former Charlton players in recorded history to not score against us. Can't feel good.
We made him look very ordinary today. As he tended to do for us any time he came up against half decent defenders.

When he can’t get the football in shooting positions, it’s like playing with 10 men. Not surprised he got hooked.
Choose your moments for these arguments eh ;)

Nobody is going to get in an argument about May after such a good win

Their whole team looked ordinary today, including £15 million Stansfield who didn't do a thing

For what it’s worth, you could see the difference in pressing between May & Kanu today @PragueAddick. There’s no way Alfie gets us that ball for Kanu’s first chance and Birmingham looked like they were pressing with 9 men first half as Stansfield was also rubbish at it
That’s a really disappointing comment. Why is there “no way”? You previously said he pressed in an “undisciplined” way, which had me listening. Now you appear to suggest he would never have chased that ball. Thats nonsense. He’s not Derek Hales, he chased down a lot of lost cause balls last season. More to the point, had he got that ball in that position, its a goal, as with Kanu’s 2nd chance closer to half time. If Stansfield is “rubbish at pressing” too, maybe that questions the obsession with strikers pressing rather than scoring.

Dan Kanu was great today and I want him to go on to be even better so that he either scores from that chance or, in that case, recognises that a simple pass to Anderson was the right choice. Would Alfie have made that pass? That’s a more pertinent question.
Not sure why it’s disappointing, was just pointing out evidence for our conversation earlier in the week as you seemed genuinely interested. You’re totally right May would’ve scored the second chance and he would’ve been in the right place. My point about the first one was that it was the style of press that created the chance and that’s what May wasn’t weaker at. Absolutely nothing I said suggested that May wouldn’t have chased the ball, you’ve just taken a wild leap from what I actually said. Stansfield also being poor pressing wise today points to the fact that their manager tactically got their press wrong.

    Hahahah what a twerp
Aw man, come on I’ve told you before, it’s his job to report. Don’t be mean.
  • Memorable. Perhaps The turn of the tide… Who knows …something to savour and celebrate. I spoke to a Birmingham fan on Floyd Road who said we out played them all over the pitch. Long may this continue. I thought Coventry was superb. As Were so many of this team today.. The big difference in personnel was ahadme’s absence. This fact alone made all the difference. Nathan Jones has realised hopefully that this guy should never start.
  • typed a long post and lost it, luckily for you lot ...
    Nothing needs to be said.

Both you and @golfaddick predicted a win.

As Louis Mendez loves to say: ’excellent stuff’
  • That Nathan Jones chap seems to know what he's doing. I did think we might manage to keep things tight and have it end up one goal either way. Wasn't expecting us to outplay them.
  • I apologise to the lads as i predicted we would get battered 0-3.

It was a brilliant team effort and we now need to do that EVERY week.

Perhaps the issue isn't that May didnt press but that he wasn't as successful as Kanu (or TC) because they are a lot quicker. Also doubt Alfie would chase down as many lost causes as Ahadme does.
  • Wow! Didn't see that coming after the last few performances but credit to NJ for making the changes after the stick he has had recently, and four at the back certainly worked today.

Also, what a pleasure to see us score from a long throw. We've been on the receiving end so many times. Must be years since we scored from one.

    Buy him back in Jan
  • Downside of today, Kane Ramsey joins Birmingham on 1st Jan for £42m (plus add ons)
Brilliant we can give our SMT pay rises + a Range Rover each
  • Didn’t get to see too much of the game. Did Brum really only have 3 shots and 0 on target!? (FlashScores)
Yes, they had no answer for the way Jones set us up. Stop Paik & Iwata and they have no idea what to do.

Would not be surprised if other teams try to copy what we did today.
Quite, and that’s why I made the comment to you  about Stansfield. Sod all to do with whether or not May didnt press or didnt do it in a disciplined way. Nothing improved for them after half time, even after they had taken off their thick lazy goalhanger.
  • Enjoyed that! Came into the game expecting the worst quite frankly, so thought I'd make the trek just for Chicken George and stick around for the game. Have to say, that was better than Bolton. Excellent performance from the first minute till the final whistle, Birmingham had a period of dominance but we held our shape excellently and managed to keep the hard press, often making their attack push back to their keeper. The goal was deserved and if I'm honest it easily should have been maybe 2/3-0, but to beat top of the league who are undefeated? I'll take that any day of the week, I was going to be happy with a draw!

Thought the crowd was excellent today, and Jones certainly put some in their place too along with an excellent performance from everyone on the pitch. Standouts for me was Ramsey and Kanu, and TC made a big impact too. Thought Alan Campbell showed some excellent efforts that reminded me of Johnny Williams. We did our bit of time wasting too but for once I thought we actually had a semi-decent ref as well.

This league sucks, but games like that give me hope we can get out of it.

Why are you so hung up on May? We made them look poor, including Alfie. Someone made a comment on Alfie specifically and I agreed that he looked lost today, as he has done against the likes of Bolton in the past.
  • Thoroughly deserved. Jones got his tactics right with the 4-man midfield going man-for-man and forcing the Brummies to go long, with everything being devoured by Lloyd Jones. Ramsey was tremendous at right back and it was an exceptionally disciplined all-round performance. Nathan Jones most certainly needed that result and suddenly those next 3 games don’t look so daunting.

I just don't think he can play that 10 role effectively when they spent £5m on a natural 10 in Willumson, the most joy they'll get from him is ironically in a front 2 with Dykes but they'll never play that because they'd have to change shape entirely.
  • That’s why we keep going
I agreed with the bloke next to me before the game that we were for a rough afternoon, but we turn up as we all live in hope.

  • I guess we're gonna bloody have to win the league?
  • No one can moan about that. Big performances by all the players. Keep that system as it works .
