i believe it’s to do with TT being very unhappy, he’s been fit and not chosen as we know but Jones has said to have ‘kept him on a back burner’… the location isn’t too far and that’s ideal for the player. I’ve since been told if the cobblers take up the option at the end of the loan, we will benefit from a bigger sum in the summer that includes part of the wages rolled up. A good connection between the two clubs which is unknown the many but way back from the Ricky Holmes deal both clubs have had a good link.
Both Hylts and L Jones have spoke to TT about Northampton and the progression of Marc Leonard has been a confidence booster.
All a bit uncertain with the finances as these are kept within close, small circles within the club.
Bolton were keen but with Randell going there the interest dropped off and Stevenage were prepared to loan but no clause at the end. This is what’s led to the cobblers landing TT which is a done deal fwiw.
Also thank god for KA!27 -
Now is the time to pounce we are crying out for a midfielder in the Randall/Collins mould.2

I don’t understand why any club would loan a player out with these agreements in place. What’s in it for the parent club? And even if he’s unhappy here, you can’t tell me getting him out the building can be worth that outlay?
manage FFP (or whatever it’s now called) it would be madness not to help that and reduce squad depth just to get an unhappy player out.On the other hand it is a rumour so there is that upside !0 -
Please a left sided CB and someone that is confident behind a front man in the next week could actually give us half a chance.12

Melrose said:Loan? Permanent i would have thought. Don't understand it really, don't think C.C. is any/much better than T.T.Some on here have short memories...The last time CC and TT were on the pitch together, was the Crawley game, after which fans were calling for Jones' head. But, even in that game, Coventry played much better as soon as Taylor was substituted. And the stats are clear. You only have to look at results, since the Crawley game, to see how much we have improved AS A TEAM.
I'm not even saying that TT is a worse player than Coventry. But it's clear that Charlton, as a TEAM, play better with Coventry in it, AND NO TAYLOR!
Sometimes managers have to make tough decisions. And the results show NJ has got this one right.
And, if Taylor is moping about the place, moaning about his lack of game time, do you think this helps with morale, and togetherness around the first team?0 -

And what does "a clause that is in their hands" mean?

Attacking Midfielder has to be the main priority , I get they're a bit of a luxury at times out of possession but it feels like the final piece of the jigsaw along with a wide/striker option. Hopefully if the TT deal goes through today even if we're paying all his wages still some cogs can begin to turn on bringing players in.9

Don't think a quality GK would be available at this stage of the window , same with LCB - I wouldn't be surprised if we've enquired about some and been given ridiculous January prices.
Unless someone like Nathan Baxter suddenly became available....4 -

It’s all about mentality. There’s no excuse for arseing about when out of possession at any level, you just need to work harder. The most successful teams in the Premier League work their b*ll*cks off. Obviously you can’t expect L1 players to be anything like their level, but you can expect them to put a shift in.

James Berry at Chesterfield would be a great signing...pacey forward/winger and has a load of goals already...Recent interest from Wycombe already too.

I’m also not keen on these agreements where it’s a loan with a future fee agreed, last time we did this with Blackpool for Charlie Kirk they didn’t follow through with the purchase.
I would be expecting Northampton or anyone to make a fair contribution to his wages to help us bring someone in not good old charitable Charlton at it again. After all nobody is going to loan us a first team ready player from this division for free.1 -

Though I think we have too many players over 30 yrs old at the moment.0 -

If we're going to loan him out AND pay all his wages, then what is the point of loaning him out? We might as well keep him in case injuries hit and we're left short.
Also out of interest, how do we still have a good connection with Northampton because of Ricky Holmes? He joined us in 2016 and i'd be surprised if there is actually anyone left with us who was at the club back then. We pretty much have entirely different owners, different management, different club officials.9 -

Teams in the mix are all spending money and our CEO is on podcasts wafflng about spending rules that don't take effect until next season.
Thats going wellI don’t have an issue with their strategy if it is as Sage outlined above, after all, it’s their money and we cannot dictate how we wished it to be spent however much we want to.The problem is their strategy is full of holes if it is the one Sage shared, because it comes across as very hit and hope, banking on churning out youngsters of a sufficient quality to be sold on. We’ve had a few over the years, but I would hardly describe us as the next Ajax. And because the Burstows/Leaburn’s etc have been less frequent, it means that whatever fee we do get, is likely just covering mounting losses. It’s a vicious circle. For it to work, we’d likely have to turn over 5/6 very good youngsters across 2 seasons max.One every 2 seasons doesn’t even cover losses, and in between, the team get weaker and weaker and we are less likely to get out of league one the right way
you have to question how these billionaires got conned by Methven etc on the whole purchase - very naive
So them lumping in £2-3m each for our annual losses is jack shit to them. However, if it looks after 3 years that we are no closer to actually reaching the promised land, they'll either walk away as they won't care or they'll fire the SMT and sort out new SMT
I would hazard.
In the meantime, CM, JR, AS et al will all be pulling in very nice salaries for underachieving1 -

No rush I suppose as end of teh month and it may depend on who we can get in. If budget not used can get the deals done at the end. Cant see a rush of otehr teams comiing in.

Potts was signed until early January, now we are in late January. (might extend if we cannot get a decent full back for cover).0 -
I'm not doubting that the poster heard what he did, but that doesn't make it true. I really doubt we will be paying 100% of TT's wages. He's a decent player and is rated at this level, there will be a few clubs happy to take and pay him.3
