I have visions of Nathan Jones being locked in a room with no phone, to prevent him signing another of his Luton boys
Does read like from Lincoln's head of recruitment he's been signed to do the Hylton role but he's got a better record than Hylton.
He's way better than Hylton actually. He scored 14 goals in L1 for Derby last season, so at this level should still be a decent player, as opposed to Hylton who at best is just suited to end of game cameos.

Honestly an ex Luton signing that wouldn't have bothered me much. He's never had pace so as a 3rd/4th striker that doesn't have to start every week but still knows where the back of the net is I think that's a clever bit of business
His hometown club, so a nice way to probably finish his career I imagine.
That's correct. Clucas was originally signed by Lincoln in the summer of 2009 after a trial and given his debut in September 2009 by Peter Jackson. Jackson was sacked the next day and new manager Chris Sutton - yes, that one - didn't fancy Clucas and put him on the transfer list almost immediately (a great way to boost the confidence of a young player). There were obviously no takers after just one appearance but Sutton released him as soon as he could in summer 2010. Since then, Clucas has amassed many appearances in the Premier League and fetched £23m in transfer fees. Just one of a number of ways in which Sutton screwed Lincoln up - you should have seen the rubbish he signed in his place, resulting in a disastrous and entirely avoidable relegation to the Conference in 2011. By which time Sutton had run away, of course. To his credit, Clucas never held his poor treatment against Lincoln and has always said he wanted to finish his career there with unfinished business. A nice lad and a popular signing despite his age (34).

An ex who genuinely wants to "come home" and help his first team can be a real asset to a lower league side. David McGoldrick has been excellent for Notts County for example
Feels like this is the way L1 is heading. The PL money and more big money takeovers filtered down to the Championship over the years, and we're now seeing more of it at this level.
Our plan to pay small fees up to around £300k or so might have worked a few years ago, but for attacking players in particular I'm not convinced it's going to get us the quality we need.

Think the norm is going to be £700k+ for quality attacking talent if not £1m+ for certain players. I don't think it's going to be possible to try and do it on finding undervalued talent anymore, there's clubs that are happy to throw big fees around now.

I know we have wanted to cut our squad size down but look at the size of the Carlisle squad! 6 new signings already in this window - https://www.carlisleunited.co.uk/squad/103

It's a puzzle how they are bottom of League Two with Lavelle and Thomas in the squad🤔
Looking likely they will be in the National League next season.

Lavelle is one of the only players in the squad their fans seem to like and that’s mainly because of his fight rather than his quality

Aren't there big spending restrictions coming in from next season? Could be why there are so many big bids going on now.

I think you're right
Yeah there are, but I believe limits 60% of the money pumped in to be spent on players. I don’t think there’s a limit on the amount itself.
I know it doesn't really affect us but that Birmingham and Wrexham drawing is exactly what we need from all the teams from 5th down who play each other

Wrexham have been very good at winning games they shouldn't have, and that ability has slightly dried up this month, with just 1 win in the last 4 games. I can see why they're trying to strengthen, as I don't think they're anywhere near as good as Birmingham or indeed Huddersfield, the 2 relegated teams from the Championship.
Well thats a shock given who the Luton Manager is... Bet Wycombe fans are loving that
Might explain their mini spending spree if the owner knows he's got £1m+ coming in. Although replacing Kone is a very tall order , from what I saw of their other strikers against us they barely threatened until he came on
