Need 41 from the remaining 23 to get to the 75 mark that’s usually needed for top six.
We can do it. 12 points from the last six with only two goals conceded and four clean sheets so recent form is tracking the right way. It’s not going to happen.
Blame first half of season for our downfall .
Anything other than a play-off finish is failure. You know my comment is correct...One place above our finish last season would be an improvement..,.,What process is this?....,.,.A play-off finish as a minimum.4 -
Knee slides make me wince! Especially with our injury record, we don't need to risk injury for an offside goal!
Glad to see TC taking more pots at goal. Jones and Leaburn certainly know how to play through-balls with their foreheads!

How we haven’t got the three points I have no idea. Well, poor finishing I guess, but we’re now playing much better, and yet we’re now 7 points from 6th, albeit with a game in hand. Let’s hope they keep their heads up.1

Having slept on it, that was a two or three one game to us with the breaks in front of gpal against an in form side. Can we make the play offs, of course we can. Will it be a big ask, of course it will but if we can keep key players fit we can absolutely do it.1

That would make his crossing really woeful given they only played together 8 out of the 18 games, so if Ramsey is aiming crosses at him most of the time he must have been aiming his crosses at Cambridge or the subs bench for more than half the games. 🤣1 -

Joking aside, how could going up be damaging? There’s never a bad time to go up. If you’re not strong enough to stay up then you take the money, come back down and go for it again.
What if you wait for the ’right time’, finish 3rd or 4th and lose in the play offs, as could happen this season to one of Birmingham, Wrexham, Wycombe or Huddersfield, each of which are arguably in ’the right time?'1 -

Reading becoming a bit of a bogey team for NJ since he’s been here. Although with each match against them we are improving.Really enjoyed the game yesterday, and as people have mentioned we are looking a better footballing team, more fluidity and players seem to have a grasp of there roles, individually and as a team.If this is what NJ is working towards and will improve further then I really hope he’s with us for a good while. Also a couple of weeks ago I was dreading the FA cup game against PNE, but looking like we could give them a good game now!3

CL_Phantom said:Yesterday was a prime example of our one dimensional squad building, we were knocking on the door throughout and just needed a bit of luck/ extra spark and it's 1-0 and 3 points.
We're crying out for some proper attacking influence from the bench, especially in midfield, I'll keep calling for Taylor to make the bench as looking to him in a game like that would offer a lot more than Anderson/ Campbell but, much like May, he just isn't fancied by Jones.
Hopefully we see a midfielder with a bit of quality to come in but I'm not convinced Jones will ever really go for it.
About the game overall, entertaining and Reading impressed given their off field issues. A point is better than none and we didn't suffer from the old "rue your misses chances"
Small and TC short on composure but played well.
Jones quality display again.4 -
Well how times change so quickly,I was up there with a lot of people saying this was the worst Charlton team ever. Now I cant believe the improvement, players like Docherty,Campbell,Small, and others are now looking like they are playing for the shirt, which is all we ask.Add to that our defensive record now Jones is back, and the whole team looks to be on another level.Delighted with the clean sheets, but we now need to get the one nil results to finish it off.I thought yesterdays game was really entertaining, the last 30 minutes was probably in my opinion, the best spell we have played all season, very unlucky not to score.
Now the crunch, some very tough away trips coming up which I think will define our season,4-5 point from the next 4 away games will be a major success.0 -

Because the performances against the like of Burton Crawley and Leyton Orient were genuinely some of the worst I have ever seen.4 -
Chippycafc said:Thought it was an entertaining game and Reading gave us a few problems. They had loads of luck when the guy cleared it off the line looks like it just hit him rather than anything else.
Good to see Chiucks come on and give them something else to think about. Another day those chances go in but fair play to Reading they have a great set of youngsters, their manager walked out and their (are/were) under a transfer embargo.
As we've said after similar performances, sometimes you get the lucky breaks, other times you play very well and get nothing.2 - Sponsored links:

It’s not surprising several players look better when we play decent football.
I don’t think long ball was needed to get to a good place defensively. A more balanced approach would likely have gained more points.3 -
The balance of the bench looks wrong at the moment, with effectively 3 No 9s on it. Surely there must be as pacey winger in the U21s who could have taken the place of one of the strikers, and given us something different from the bench?
Jones clearly doesn't like his bench, as he rarely make all 5 subs (despite this being the busy Christmas period), indeed the last 2 games he's only used 2 of them, and against Cambridge just 3, right at the end to kill time.5 -

Much more like it, that's how football should be played, 2 teams going at each other, none of this long ball nonsense, none of this trying to play like Barcelona, a good mixture of everything with widemen trying to make things happen. Yes our wide men are not good enough, or at least dont have a good footballing brains, however get in a couple of more with pace to keep TC and small on their toes and we will win more then would lose.
First time I have felt postive after game for a very long time and we didnt even win!! If Jones and the team can keep that up then there will be a good chance getting to the playoffs. I'm still miserable though so fully expect it all to go wrong with as we are an injury or 2 away or player been sold away from being shit again.11 -

Is it beyond NJs tactical nous to have TC and Small swop sides for five minutes a couple of times a match? It wont impact our defensive shape too much, but may expose deficiencies in opponents.2
