This simply has to be a 1 off. Next Saturday is such a big game for us now.
Looking at our form it is! As for the other important game today, I think Wrexham winning helps us as it pegs back Stockport, stemming their equally good form. Wrexham will fight it out with Wycombe and one will be very disappointed come May which I hope will affect their playoff form. We can still be a solid playoff side, however need to just keep plugging away for 8 more games then take stock.
Our form can change very quick. Only need to look at orient. Agree wrexham winning better for us. Not worried about top 2.
Never were we three goals worse than them today, but it was still a very bad day at the office. After the calamitous mistake by Will Mannion that led to the first goal, we looked shaky and unsure in defence, especially vulnerable to their fast counter-attacking play. We were toothless in attack and despite getting into decent attacking positions we failed to create clear-cut openings. The result feels harsh but in truth they could have had more.
But let's not overreact. We've had a fantastic run but it was always going to end sometime. The trick now is to bounce back quickly and decisively. We managed that well after the defeats at Birmingham and Rotherham but Huddersfield will be a very stern test next week, both of our players and of Nathan Jones’ ability to inspire a passionate and controlled performance after today's disappointment.
Really not too disappointed with that and in my opinion, just one of those days.
If Jones' early header had gone in or one of the numerous balls we hit across their penalty box had fallen to one of our players, it could have been a vastly different game.
And their first goal came about after an error that we probably won't make again for the next 10 years.
And whilst they had much the better chances, we were pushing up and trying to score to get back in the game.
More of a worry for me is if both Kanu and Leaburn are out for the rest of the season. Poor old Chuks now just looks so slow and cumbersome. If we are relying on him, we are in trouble.
With the Wrexham result today, automatics gone in my opinion. 8 points behind and an inferior goal difference with only 8 games left is too bigger a gap to catch I fear, particularly as Wrexham have got a fairly easy run in with games against Cambridge, Burton, Bristol Rovers and Wigan. Let's just make sure we finish 3rd or 4th and get the second leg of the playoffs at home.
Got cocky at the end against Wigan and now this. Hopefully a wake up call that we can’t just coast to the end of the season.
This will hopefully serve as a reset and we go on a run similar to the one after our defeat to birmingham. We have done so well to get where we are now but we have achieved nothing yet. Time to go again. One of those days today. COYR.
We could've done with someone on the far post, with the ball pinging across their goal on several occasions, ripe for a tap in.
Having said that, we were caught time and again on the counter and Posh could've scored more. One to forget, time to re-group, reset and get ready for Huddersfield.
Easy to say the auto places are beyond us now, but we have to regain our defence shape, it was poor today, although still expect us to get to the playoffs. Our concern should be we do not have a striker on form. Not sure why he takes off Godden. ? Been here before with Charlton, best not to get to low, or to high, especially in this league!
Don't want to be too negative (why break a habit of a lifetime I hear you say)....but Posh did to us what we should have done to Crawley & Wigan. They really should have had 5 or 6. Top 2 I think is now out of reach, so we have to make doubly sure we finish in the play offs. That means making sure we beat Huddersfield next week & then win another 3 or 4 games after that.
I know I get pelters a lot of the time for what I post but it has been coming. I have been (half) joking about fearing what our front line could be at Wembley but today showed that we really dont have much up front outside Godden & Leaburn......and even Leaburn hasn't been firing on all cylinders lately. TC is hit & miss and it only takes 1 injury ( Edwards) to throw the back line out of shape.
I am hoping to God that we've done enough over the past 10 weeks to be able to secure a play off place, but the coming 6 weeks could be a nervy place if we suffer any more injuries.
I'm not a fan of his but hats off to Darren Ferguson, he got his tactics spot on. Got his forwards to drop deeper so they couldn't be marked by our back three and then got the ball to them so they could run at our back three rather than try to win one on one challenges with our best three players. They got a leg up with Watson going to sleep at the far post to put them one up, even though we managed to block a free kick from 7 yards. The second goal comes from our corner, we leave Coventry and Watson at the back, they get split, don't get tight and it's curled into the corner. The most frustrating part of the game for me is how much domination we had and how many half chances we made a complete bollocks of.
Lot's of great opportunities, especially first half, but a distinct lack of quality and players making the wrong decisions at crucial times meant we didn't really carve out many clear cut chances.
They on the other hand had three or four more clear chances they fluffed, in addition to the goals they scored.
Will be glad when Aneke is gone and can no longer be selected. Can't Nathan see that he's a spent force?
But what other options do we have ? With Kanu & Leaburn both injured we are left with Chuks, Ahadme & Hylton. Unless you want to try Dixon or Casey 🤷♂️.
Promotion or not, we need to sign a better keeper next season. Mannion absolutely cost us that game with his stupid schoolboy error. We were comfortably the better side for 35 minutes, without his stupidity we'd probably have gone in 0-0 ready to take the game in the second half. When we were chasing the game, there were a couple of occasions when he was just too slow of his line. He's good enough to be reserve keeper, but not good enough to be first choice. Sadly, the same is true of Maynard-Brewer.
Thought Jones struggled at times today. Not sure if the early yellow made him think twice, whether he struggled with their pace or whether he's tired after being the lynchpin for so long. Possibly a bit of all three.
We need another natural finisher other than Godden. Lot's of good play up front, but no killer instinct.
Thought Watson had a reasonable game for someone that's not played much recently, but he's no Edwards. Hope we get him back quickly.
Chucks just isn't cutting the mustard even as a sub nowadays. He always tries to shoot instead of passing and that makes his play too predictable. Everyone has learnt to deal with his physicality and he's no longer having the same disruptive effect any more. Sorry Chucks, time to call it a day I think.
Watched on their stream. Who on earth was the commentator (appalling) and why did he keep feeling the need to mention everyone's links to Cambridge Utd. So bloody boring. Nobody cares mate.
How many mascots have Borough got? I counted four: there's the really scary bloke in top hat and tails that looks like Jacob Rees-Mogg has risen from the grave, Peter Burrow the rabbit (clever name that made me think of Scoop for some unknown reason), Skip Head and some Builder Character. Frankly it's just too many. The league should declare that any team fielding more than the required number of mascots (2 max) has cheated and the points immediately awarded to the opposition.
Yellow surrender shirts. WTF? #JUSTWEARRED
The mark of a good team is not that they never lose, it's how they respond to losing. We've got Huddersfield next Saturday, I look forward to seeing the old Charlton Steamroller again.
Berry and Doc couldn’t hit a cows arse with a shovel. We need a goal scoring midfielder.
Ain't they got a banjo?
My fault, sorry all!
Was around my daughters place, they popped out for lunch which i didn't fancy so dog sat for them. Suddenly i thought, "Ah! they've got Sky..." the rest as they say is history. Watched till they went 1 up, realised my Charlton on Sky curse, and switched off immediately. The damage was done.
Peterborough deserve a lot of credit thought they played really well. They’ve still got to play Reading, Stockport & Bolton. If Peterborough play like that they will beat all 3 of those sides. Just a bad day for us

If you're watching on the Posh stream, they would. Local (county) rivals and all that.
Charlton were not going to win every game. That was a disappointing defeat. Automatic promotion now looks too far with Wrexham 8 points ahead. Ok for 30 minutes with a good press, picking up position but never really did anything with it. Tyreece Campbell had lots of great positions, but no end product at all.
Poor individual defensive errors led up to the Mannion brain freeze collection of back pass.
Thought we had survived that but then Watson fell asleep. Charlton
pushed up for equaliser, Charlton had a corner without leaving sufficient cover. Breakway from a
corner and its 2-0.
Charlton were struggling with Peterborough's pace up top. This rushed the defense into some poor decision making. Defense is clearly better with Edwards. Hope he is back soon. Jones appeared to lose some positional discipline again today. Against a quick forward line, it didn't help. Maybe some adjustment to the set up may have helped with more solidity and not exposed midfield.
One of those days that Charlton could have played for 3 weeks and not scored. Hope Myles Leaburn injury is not serious as Aneke looks his impact days as sub has gone.
Hoping team can pick up and bounce back to maintain play off push.
A very open game and a decent enough watch for the first half hour. We created some promising situations, although Peterborough’s pace up front was consistently dangerous and they cut through us far too easily in midfield on a number of occasions. Inept defending saw us concede twice in 5 minutes before half time and left us with a mountain to climb.
We had a good spell of possession at the start of the second half but it fizzled out and Peterborough had four very good opportunities to score before they struck a deserved 3rd goal to make the game totally safe.
They were quick and incisive in the final third; in contrast, we were largely pedestrian and our final ball was poor. 25 attempts on goal and only 4 on target tells its own story. A number of players had an off day today and Leaburn’s injury is a blow, as Chuks continues to look incredibly slow and laboured.
We just need to put it behind us and come out firing next Saturday. Realistically, Wrexham’s 8 point lead is going to be a bridge too far but a fourth place finish is still well within reach.

Hard to believe our midfield today, so open, I don’t get why, considering how tight we’ve played recently, Anderson much earlier would have helped, just hope we react well to a poor performance 🤞

HMS Second Spot still on course to arrive early May 💪👊

We'll have to do Huddersfield then.

lol!... "We wanted an quick start in the second half, had three shots, and they all ended up in Stevenage"

We still have everything to play for and whether or not we play in this league next season is still fully in our hands.
This team have picked themselves up from bad results so far this season, so let's just move on and finish as strongly as possible.
That'll be next Saturday lunchtime on Sky + ...
FWIW
F*** the kit contract, wear RED unless it's not feasible.
A minute later later we’re 1 down & quickly 2 down.
We then had to chase the game.
Peterborough looked like a top half team and atm I put that down to just one of those days.
