I know some people won't ......No ! most people won't agree with me, it was good to see Ahadme back, he actually had one of our four shots on target, we are going to need him fit and finding some form.
You're related?
If as reported Leaburn is out for the season and Kanu out for a month, we need my Uncle Gas to hit form, not before time to be fair.
And don’t worry, we also have Hylton up our sleeve 😅
I honestly don't understand why some are blaming Mannion fo the back-pass mistake. He was already commited to get the ball, but Ramsey then poked it to him. If you watch it back he was halfway down at the point of contact, so no chance of pulling out.
Been saying it since Aneke came back, but he's a spent flush that offers nothing. He has no pace and resorts to grabbing opposition players, giving away cheap free-kicks. Last season, he was a cheat-code. This season, he's just a liability.
The back pass doesnt even matter... We dealt with the resulting free kick
Its the Defence who then fell asleep for the follow up, as given the ball got cleared beyond the box, they had plenty of time to organise themselves.
The problem we have is that we are not clinical enough in front of goal. That has been the pattern in the last few games. We’ve been lucky though as the other teams have had the same problem. But today Posh were clinical going forward and took their goals well. Maybe it would have been different if Mannion hadn’t had that rush of blood to the head but, once we went behind, we just didn’t have it in us to get back into the game. Even though we had lots of chances I don’t remember their goalie being really tested. For me that could be a problem.
I posted this last week (and then backed up by @PragueAddick) and got pelters.
Perhaps it now might start sinking in.
Once again Golfie, it was pointed out to you that since January 1st Charlton, after yesterdays games have scored 22 goals, Wrexham 16 and Wycombe 15. I would like to ask you who you would like us to score more than and how many should we get ? Rob's post about being clinical does not bear scrutiny, yesterday we created chances but none were clear cut, Peterborough were stretched but last ditch attempts our missed placed shots and goalkeeping saves meant we didn't score. Can't say I'm surprised by your post though, any failure of the team is jumped on by yourself as vindication that you 'were right all along', it's my opinion that you actually want this team to fail to prove that point. The weather is getting better Golfie, get out on the course, get down the Valley, get some interaction with other human beings, because left to your own devices you sound bitter and twisted.

Sorry must disagree, if it hadn't been for the total cockup between Ramsay and Mannion, the follow up would never have happened. Of course the "back pass(age)" move caused everything that followed it, whoever the fault lies with, one of them should have put the f'in ball into row z...end of!
I’ve been thinking the results have been better than our performances recently. we have probably the most pathetic shooting ability from outside the box , Docherty and Coventry are beyond lame 95% of the time where this is concerned . Our energy seemed to be lower which with a week without a game is a concern . Our lack of attacking threat will lead to our failure in The play offs my fear is we slide out of them all together. I need a win against Huddersfield to get my Charlton mojo back but can see more points dropped.
I have a stinking hangover and the doom and gloom is pouring out of me . This shithouse league is a dark cloud I need removed please .
I'm sure there has been one in the intervening years, but the last backpass I can remember involving us was vs Newcastle. Remember Shearer absolutely crushing one
Until the 1st goal cock up,we had plenty of the ball and looked the better side.however, this has been coming,we do not take enough advantage of our superior play.Last week we should have been out of sight, and ended up thankful for a 2-1,this has happened before, and today,we paid the price.I lost count of how many times the ball flew across their area with none of our players in a position to attack, there were some good crosses today from the by line,by both TC and Small, but nobody on the end of them. With Leaburn and Kanu not playing,Aneke looking Jaded,I think the only alternative is to Say to Gas,your in,earn your money and justify what we paid for you,you never know. But we must not panic,we need to finish 3rd or 4th to get the away leg first,so maybe need 5 wins out of 8,(2nd place I think is gone).hold on for the ride.
Wouldn't have happened at all if Gillesphey hadn't cheaply given the ball away in the first place
So, have I got this right?
Ramsey passed the ball back to Mannion and, finding it hard to agree who was at fault, we go back to an earlier action by Gillesphey and blame him (as usual).
This post has 8 likes so far. Bloody typical unfair scapegoating of Gillesphey again.
Ramsay was at fault for the back pass, no doubt in my mind. However, the only reason that happened in the first place was because Gillepshey gave the ball away in a dangerous position. That's not scapegoating, it's a fact.
Some of you are far too precious about certain players.
People being quite harsh on Mannion. Made a lot of good saves in the game
Harsh maybe, but it is difficult not to get angry at such crass stupidity. I thought Brewer diving on ball a yard outside his box was as idiotic as it gets but Mannion has taken it to a new level

It is indeed. The disappointing thing, which I thought at the moment it happened was that it was the type of mistake he seemed to have worked so hard on to remove from his game in recent weeks. A lot of players had similar bad moments, starting with Jones rightly and needlessly being booked after just 3 minutes.
Our record since our loss to Rotherham is-: (please forgive any mistakes, I'm working literally from my hospital bed with a pen and the back of a cardboard box!) P 14, W 10, D 2, L 2, F 20, A 10 pts 32 Win % 71.5 Games left 8 Pts available 24 Win - 8 x 71.5% = 5 Therefore assuming we win 5 of the remaining 8 games, and draw 1, we will have 82 points at the end of the season. Yesterday, I believe was ' one step too far' in the sheer number of games played in such a short period of time. Next Saturday we go again, play offs are still achievable, we just have to go on a similar run!

That looks impressive Red, and encouraging as well...now for your bed bath...😉
We've lost one game in seven and suddenly people are saying that we're about to slide out of the playoffs altogether.
I get the disappointment and yesterday was a bad performance and a bad result but remember the wise words of Curbs - don't get too positive on the wins or too negative on the losses.
Last time we lost we looked dreadful then too but then came a storming run. Let's not panic yet hey.

I’m not saying that, but as Charlton fans we’ve definitely been here before. Admittedly, as you say, we’ve bounced back well from defeats this season.

"We had shots that ended up in Stevenage" Nathan Jones.
So what can Jones do about it? Kanu? Aneke? Ahadme? Good luck with that.
So that means better, more clinical finishing from Campbell, Docherty, Berry, and Coventry. Maybe Gilbert. Good luck with that too, at this stage of the season.
Now, if you want some "perspective", fine, this is the 3rd Division, and as Brownie said, unless you spend millions this is the kind of weakness even a decent squad ends up with. The frustrating thing is that we spent a lot of money on Ahadme. He might not have been bought primarily for his finishing, but if he at least looked like a reliable 15 goal per season striker, we'd be in a much better place this morning. If we reach the play-offs I will still regard it as over-achievement compared with reasonable expectations, but if we falter at this stage it will IMO be largely down to the decisions we made pre-season about the striker/goals-scoring element of the squad. As I said at the time of May's departure (and borrowing a maxim from the broader world of recruitment) "Any idiot can sell a good player, especially a striker, replacing him with someone better is the difficult bit".
People being quite harsh on Mannion. Made a lot of good saves in the game
I agree but he still should have kicked that ball away . Having said that , they didn’t score from that , they scored from Watson not picking up his man a few seconds later .
So much was self inflicted. Jones getting booked after three minutes made him edgy. An early booking when playing against a big striker or target man can be managed better than when against pace. Any mistimed tackle then on was likely to result in a second yellow.
Their first goal. Gillesphey, Watson, Mannion, Ramsay could all have done better. It was a mess of a goal to concede.
Our corners. It was clear that as soon as Steer got the ball he would release their player on the edge of our box. Therefore keep the cross away from the keeper? Either go deep or between the penalty spot and 18 yard line. I think we were naive in that respect.
First time for a very long time I have missed Dobson. I think he would have been able to neuter some of the Peterboro attacks but that’s an aside really.
Need a win and a strong performance next week to settle us back down again.
Not panicking yet, but I am worried that we seem to have long spells of looking very vulnerable in our away games recently. Doesn't bode well for an away leg of a playoff.
From station / city centre / ground it looks a hell of a lot nicer than the Stevenage and Birmingham walks this season
Yeah I like Peterborough. It's not Paris but the high street is adequate, the pubs are good, and I think the boat pub is the best pub in the division. The station is fairly near the ground.
It was even better 10ish years ago when the away stand was terraced.
The boat pub is certainly incredibly well set up for away fans, huge space very near to ground and on way from centre and station, works very well
As I said at 1.11am when I couldn't sleep, CL Posters will generally pick on the player that fit their narrative and leave their favourites out of any criticism.
The truth is Gillesphey, Ramsey, Mannion, and possibly Watson and Ramsey again all made individual and collective errors in the 'creation' of the 1st goal. Need to see the final ball into our area again to see if others were culpable and could a collective charge forward by CAFC defence have seen the scorer offside ? Unfortunately it didn't happen and a shocker of a goal to concede from several players. We went 400 minutes recently without conceding because when one player made a mistake, others had their back. That broke down and the ability of Peterborough to counter attack in transition was impressive as Charlton had to gamble and the improvement since the Valley game for Posh was like night and day.
No slight on Watson who had a steady game but Ramsey and Small on the right and Edwards and TC on the left were good combos over a dozen games and hopefully Josh Edwards is good to return for the Huddersfield match which takes on massive importance for CAFC to finish 3rd to 6th.
Best not to read to much into that game as it was just weird either team could have scored a hatful it’s just unfortunate that they did lol
if Edwards isn’t fit next week I would bring Mitchell in and let Ramsey play a more attacking role.
sadly Chucks is done I think and it’s sad watching him now. If Miles is out for the season as reported then Ahadme needs to earn his corn as we will need him
Still pissed off this morning. We have to win all of the remaining eight games to have any chance of automatic promotion, so the sensible thing to do is get the three or four wins needed to get into the play offs and prepare properly for that mini tournament. All hope is not lost, but yesterday was a big blow, and for our travelling support a massive let down.

Pretty much my thoughts.
I've thoroughly enjoyed our form, and it's been fantastic, but there's no getting away from some of the performances. The defence (aside from yesterday and Rotherham) has been fantastic, but the attack is so poor at times.
Godden is clinical and a battler, but he isn't getting enough service/he isn't creating his own chance. Chuks is finished, completely finished. Beyond slow and looks to be actively avoiding wearing himself out to me. As much as TC is great at bringing the ball up the pitch, his end product just isn't there, similar to Small.
I just hope we have done enough for top6 and can avoid a few defeats and beat the dross along the way.
Still fancy us in the play offs, as it's not always the most exciting sides that win, just think this result and the Stockport draw have been a bit too damaging.
Side note as well, yesterday sort of highlighted our poor January business other than Gilbert who has chipped in. We really could have done with some flair players, particularly in the middle for when we aren't having our day out wide.
Coventry doesn't really have a mistake in him, and Dochery is absolutely everywhere atm, but neither can strike the ball well at all, and neither can run past a man with it, could have really done with a player to mix it up in the middle.
Clutching at a straw here. But Godden is a more effective ‘target man’ than Ahadme who I think is hopeless in that role, but it may be that Ahadme is a better target for a good old fashioned cross from the wide positions, than long forward balls from deep.
Great set-up at Peterborough- parked in side residential street ( no parking ticket ) next to ground and opposite fan park… Shame about the result though ..
What was the difference between our backpass and the one Wigan got away with last week?
Wasn’t that off the guys knee?
I think there are a lot of grey area cases with back passes where it can be difficult to say with 100% certainty that it was a deliberate pass and not just the bi-product of a tackle or a block that the ball ends up going to the keeper. To what extent was the defender deliberately playing it to the keeper as opposed to just getting it away from the forward and/or goal. With yesterday's back pass, there was absolutely no room for doubt, because when it wasn't rolling in that direction quickly enough, he had a second go at it.

P 14, W 10, D 2, L 2, F 20, A 10 pts 32
Win % 71.5
Games left 8
Pts available 24
Win - 8 x 71.5% = 5
Therefore assuming we win 5 of the remaining 8 games, and draw 1, we will have 82 points at the end of the season.
