Still pissed off this morning. We have to win all of the remaining eight games to have any chance of automatic promotion, so the sensible thing to do is get the three or four wins needed to get into the play offs and prepare properly for that mini tournament. All hope is not lost, but yesterday was a big blow, and for our travelling support a massive let down.
I think we would have a chance with 6 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss. But would definitely need to win the away games against Wrexham & Wycombe
Just a bit off topic, but while we are talking about the pass back rule, I can remember standing on the terrace at Sellout Park, watching a cup match i think, my memory is sketchy, and the rule had just been introduced, and we skied an attempted clearance from midway between the 18yd area and the halfway line, miscued and it flew back towards our goal and our keeper caught it, and the jobs worth ref gave an indirect free kick, think we conceded from it as well. Anyway a bit of a memory trackback there, anyone else remember it?...🤷♂️

League Cup 93, ref was the pilock Kelvin Morton
Well, I bow to your excellent knowledge my friend, but '93 we were back at The valley..🤔.

I remember that well - away to Palace. Mainly because the OB steamed in after they scored, one's hat came off in the melee, and he decided to blame/grab me, dragged me into that portacabin and beat the shit out of me. Then ripped my jacket up and transferred me to the nick.
Think 'Goodbye hat' was sung at a few subsequent games!

I thought it was home to WHU in a cup game at Sellout Park

Must admit, I thought it was earlier than '93, but I can't recall too accurately...🤷♂️

Recall it vividly. As others have said said it was Darren Pitcher's sliced clearance. That game was part of a run where we played Palace four times in a month. Away and then home in the League Cup, home in the Anglo Italian and home in the league. I think we had Millwall twice as well, away in the Anglo Italian (a 2 2 draw) and home in the league. I think the only one out of that batch we won was the home game with Palace in the Anglo Italian. Plus ça change.
This simply has to be a 1 off. Next Saturday is such a big game for us now.
Not necessarily. Despite much possession we looked short on ideas and very shaky at the back at times. What we really don't need is a dip in confidence and form right now, which can happen at any time during the season. Really is a big game next Saturday against a team in decent form.

We can blame Mannion, or Ramsay, or even Gillesphey.
But the back pass didn’t even turn out to be the cause of our downfall. We had cleared our area from that situation well.
It was Tennai falling asleep at the back post that let in Hughes from the following cross. That’s what killed us.
Jones always talks about us defending our box from crosses really well. It only takes one person taking their eye off it for half a second for that to no longer be true.

I kind of see your point but I think the unusual free kick scrambled their brains somewhat. It certainly had an effect on Mannion who became very hesitant to come off his line for the rest of the game

Our old friend Kelvin Morton was the ref, ridiculous man.
I’ve been thinking the results have been better than our performances recently. we have probably the most pathetic shooting ability from outside the box , Docherty and Coventry are beyond lame 95% of the time where this is concerned . Our energy seemed to be lower which with a week without a game is a concern . Our lack of attacking threat will lead to our failure in The play offs my fear is we slide out of them all together. I need a win against Huddersfield to get my Charlton mojo back but can see more points dropped.
I have a stinking hangover and the doom and gloom is pouring out of me . This shithouse league is a dark cloud I need removed please .
Pretty much my thoughts.
I've thoroughly enjoyed our form, and it's been fantastic, but there's no getting away from some of the performances. The defence (aside from yesterday and Rotherham) has been fantastic, but the attack is so poor at times.
Godden is clinical and a battler, but he isn't getting enough service/he isn't creating his own chance. Chuks is finished, completely finished. Beyond slow and looks to be actively avoiding wearing himself out to me. As much as TC is great at bringing the ball up the pitch, his end product just isn't there, similar to Small.
I just hope we have done enough for top6 and can avoid a few defeats and beat the dross along the way.
Still fancy us in the play offs, as it's not always the most exciting sides that win, just think this result and the Stockport draw have been a bit too damaging.
Side note as well, yesterday sort of highlighted our poor January business other than Gilbert who has chipped in. We really could have done with some flair players, particularly in the middle for when we aren't having our day out wide.
Coventry doesn't really have a mistake in him, and Dochery is absolutely everywhere atm, but neither can strike the ball well at all, and neither can run past a man with it, could have really done with a player to mix it up in the middle.
Re the celebration after the 2nd. I was in that corner and had no problem with initial knee slide (well executed tbf). But what followed was odd. Odoh hadn't been getting any stick, but clearly wanted to confront the away fans. He was then joined by practically the whole team gesturing and baiting the fans as close as they could get. A bit classless tbh and a couple of people understandably took exception to it. What followed with the over zealous stewards and the chap being dragged out quite aggressively was ridiculous. We saw the fella outside and luckily he'd not been arrested. It was all a bit unnecessary tbh. Obviously Odoh has an issue with the fact he wasn't deemed good enough for Charlton and wanted to vent that, but i reckon n 99% of the stand had no idea who he even was!

On Louis M's show today one of the others, I think Sue, said that some of our fans had been goading him earlier, "Charlton reject" type of stuff, I assume.
Ramsay didn’t need to play the pass, Mannion was already down to collect it, and Kayne if not sure has to deal with it, the free kick was dealt with, but we completely left Hughes unmarked.
Lloyd Jones was piling into Ramsay as well about it on the pitch
If Ramsay hadn't played the pass (ok maybe he too could have cleared it) the Peterborough player may well have nipped in before Mannion collected the ball. It would have been close and wrong to have not played the ball at all.

It’s a lot to do with how we play, aggressive high line and press etc but teams that have pace up front are our only real weakness defensively. This was exposed up at Rotherham with Wilks and Green playing up front for them and causing us problems. Since then Ramsay has played at CB which has definitely helped things, as he’s very good 1v1 and as a recovery defender. But it is still the only slight weakness we have which can be exploited by teams with pace up front like Peterborough had yesterday

I didn’t hear any of that but I wouldn’t be surprised. If he’d skied the shot over the bar then it definitely would have followed so I don’t really have any problem with him giving it to the away end
