Going from what CP said I think we have little chance of signing him. Something along the lines of "that's the sort of player we aspire to but only when we're moving in the right direction on and off the field". That told me we can't afford him.

We can't, but if he gets no offers elsewhere, would he rather play for us on a smallish wage or not be paid/play at all ?
Like I said previously, if you never had to work again in your life would you work for 10% of what you're used to earning ?

I doubt we'll sign him. But if no one else comes in for him, surely he'd be better playing & having some sort of wage, until January, giving him the chance to impress other clubs, staying match fit, rather than not playing from May-Jan = 9 months.

But that's the thing - the wage isn't an issue as the relative peanuts we can offer are nothing to him. Fitness might be an issue but apparently there are teams willing to let him train with them whilst he finds something better.

It depends on the individual and the motivation for working. Some people love what they do and work way beyond retirement for instance.

Football is a game many play for love. A reliable source told me that Christian Dailly joined us for expenses and a miniscule wage because it suited him from a location and family viewpoint to play for us at the level we were then.

Not sure whether or not NRC is that type of individual but stranger things have happened.

Surely he can't be if he still doesn't have a team ?

He'll become a forgotten man if he's out the game for too long. Then if he wants to play he'll have to start back in the CCC

He be better off playing on a short deal with a release clause at least he d be in the shop window
  • Piece in "Sunday Sun" by Nigel saying that his reported wage demands are not true. He exercised his clause to leave Bolton so that he could be nearer London as he has recently married. He said he could have stayed at Bolton and picked up PL money but wanted to play PL football nearer London. Seems agents have been touting him to clubs with wage demands but he says no one has actually spoken to him about money. Sounds like any deal with us is dead in the water now though otherwise I think it would have already been done. Pity.
