    Come on you Tigers!!

Jeter out of the post-season with a broken ankle, A-Rod couldn't hit a beach ball, such a shame.

Yep, Jeter, one of the all time greats, future hall of famer, fantastic leader and role model. Can't see any positives in him breaking an ankle.
Positive being that he is a big loss for that lot as proved last night

Umm, I guess so..........your comment reminded me of the Newcastle fans celebrating the positive side of Colin Walsh's broken leg at St James Park back in the day (minus the coin chucking of course). Never understood that.

    Giants fluke a 7 - 1 win over the Cards to make it 1 - 1 in the series : - )

3-0 Detroit. This makes me happy.
  • I seem to recall a 4-0 clinching of the ALCS in 2006 for the Tiggers before going to pieces against the Cards in the WS.
    It's like deja vu....all over again. ;o)

Tigers and Yankees take a rain check/cheque in game 4. Messes up the NYY rotation but let's hope they don't need a game 5,6 or 7 anyway.

Cards bucked their usual form by winning a low scoring game to go 2 - 1 up. Lost Beltran though so big worry there. Will have to see how bad it is.
  • Motte blows 'em away with a hitless, 19-pitch, 2-innings save. Sizzlin'..........

That was a good pitching battle. One for the purists I think. I saw up to the rain delay then had to go to bed. Will be cheering on those Tigers to wrap it all up tonight.

Without knowing too much about St Louis, can one of you Cards boys tells me how they do it year after year? It seems that losing great players and even a legendary manager doesn't make a difference. Are they the Barca of the Baseball world?

Can't really say for sure but

Long term: Big franchise, large catchment area, good support and sponsors, very good farm system (the first I think) stable ownership and management

And while Albert was the star it wasn't a one man team. Strength in depth last year and so far this have carried them through although they have been far from dominant in their division or league. Two wilds cards but the ability to win seemingly lost games or series

The amazing run of success is down to a tried and tested formula executed by a superb management team down the years....for more than a century in fact.
It's a simple modus operandi: they look at what the Cubs are doing and do the exact opposite.

    Ta-ta Yanks.

The Yankee players have looked totally disinterested and the Tigers have absolutely rinsed them this final game.

    Shame.

Seconded. Think they are hot for the title, though of course I am hoping it will be the mighty Giants! Lincecum starting tonight, go on The Freak!

    Go Giants!
  • Just a shame that one of these teams, who both refuse to be beaten, has to taste defeat tonight. Let's hope it's a humdinger...........and, personally speaking, a Cards win...........naturally.

Lohse pitching for Cards. He did well in his last PS game so fingers crossed.

Wonder how much Cards reputation for winning from impossible positions will play on giants minds? They know that even 6 down Cards can still win.

    Very hard one to call.

Detriot must be loving see their opponents take it to 7 while they rest up.
  • Yep, hard to call. Giants on a roll having come back from 3-1 down. Matt Cain starts for the Giants, so same match up as game 3 which Cards won 3-1. This is a good series, but as you say the price of entertainment is 4 days rest!

Didn't do the Tigers any good in 2006 and, this time, home advantage to the NL contender.

The overall records of the two tonight are very close however Cain has a 1-3 record in his last 5 against the Cards
