If we end up with Kermy, Fuller, Obika and one of Church and Hulse I'll be satisfied. Plus a winger than can play upfront if needed (Stewart).

If we ended up with that lot I'll cry............none are prolific strikers & apart from Kermy none will get into double figures. There is a reason why they are still knocking around come august............they're crap !!!

Bro', we ain't gonna get a prolific striker because either a) a fee will be involved or b) if free then wages will be too high. Cardiff and Hull proved you don't need them anyway as long as the rest of the team are chipping in. However if they don't chip in then we could be in trouble. Meanwhile we need CP to search the charity shops, the homeless centres etc and hope and pray that he can unearth a player like Church who had potential but has gone backwards and that CP can get the best out of him. Whether or not he can find two such players is another matter. In CP I trust.

Crap or not, if that's the best that CP can have at his disposal then so be it. If you have any better suggestions then I'm sure CP would love to hear from you.
It does make you wonder why we got rid of Haynes. Was it the injuries or cashflow?
He scored some spectacular goals and always looked dangerous.

We didn't get rid of him. We offered him reduced terms. Probably citing his injury record as the reason.

He then went off and got himself a two year deal, which he is well within his rights to do.

    Ah right, thanks for clarifying.

Well, very confident finish from Church here:

People asking for a 30 goal a season striker, what if no-one else scores, would you rather have one player with 30 or 4 all with 10 each? Beggars can't be choosers and latecomers get last dibs

Church, from what I have seen of him, looks like a 'target' player rather than a channel runner and I think we need the latter more than the former.

We know Yann can play the '9' role superbly, what we need is a Benty type player who can get in behind defenders.
  • very composed that.

Looks to be a good technical player and can finish. Maybe his confidence has taken a bit of a battering in the last few seasons. Looks to be a half decent player in there and maybe CP can bring that out of him.

As we are scraping the splinters off the bottom of the barrel any striker with solid Championship experience will have to do at this stage!

Not going to judge on not having seen him play but 28 goals in 150 games.........................Wikipedia says he is a striker.

It's worse than that - 30 goals in 171 league and cup apps. And don't forget the single goal in 22 apps for Wales.

And that was for the U21 team I believe

You don't get 20 goal a season strikers in on a free in the Championship. Jordan Rhodes is a 20 goal a season striker. He cost £7 million. We do need strikers but anyone turning their nose up at a prospective player because he won't hit that 20 mark need to re-evaluate our position and the league as a whole

A lot of people are missing the point here-you don't need a prolific striker to get promoted.

A solid defence is what wins sides promotion and IF we keep Solly, and even if he goes, there's no reason we won't have that as SCP seems to know what he's doing with regards to that department. It won't neccessarily be free-flowing champagne football but will do the job.

    See Hull last season:

    Koren 10
    Aluko 8
    Simpson 7
    Meyler 5

Palace acquired Glenn Murray on a free transfer - he scored 30 goals last season.

To be fair, 29 of those were penalties

And at the risk of sounding a sore loser, I think that was a pretty flukey/one-off season. He's not a bad player but I really don't think he'll ever score that many again in a single season from what I saw of him (which admittedly was not much.)

Not knowing the exact number I think he scored about 15 penalties didn't he? Ridiculous amount in one season and I would say a one off. The guy will be lucky to get 5 goals in the Premiership.

He obviously must have some talent but I have a palace friend (I know, I'm ashamed) who agrees with this-that the season was likely a one off

  • before we signed Kerm 227 apps - 57 goals - thats pretty much 1 in 4
Church's record is not too dissimilar

If he does sign lets give the lad a chance. He cant be worse than some of the dross we have seen in the past i.e mcloed, akpo, clarke, mooney etc

Who are people honestly wanting us to sign? Any decent striker will be in a contract, and by the slim chance they were without a club then they'll be snapped up now anyway. We havent got money for big wages and certainly not for a fee.

Let's just see who we bring in, support them and see what we do. We're not in a position to be bringing in a Darren Bent or Clive Mendonca, these type of scorers are well out of our Lidl style budget.

We have to take what we can get given the situation. Playing off Kermy many strikers can be made to look good because he wins everything in the air and feeds his striking partners so I think Church would do well with him.

Ebanks Blake is still available, Chopra was until today but both would want too much wages. If it's Church or someone else then so be it.

Would love Ebanks Blake, he has real quality at this level, bit injury prone though.

Ebanks Blake will struggle to find a team because of his injury but he is a free agent so you can sign him at any time I'm sure? So a Championship team might come in for him when he's nearly back to fitness. Chopra would have had to lower his wages dramatically I think he's done nothing for a couple seasons.

Chopra went seriously off the rails with his gambling addiction, was found to have illegally abused the betting system, and was banned from bookies' for ten years. He has had spells of rehab at the Sporting Chance clinic. Ipswich paid £250k to help clear his gambling debts.

I have every confidence we will sign a Prem youngster like Harry Kane on loan but that won't be till the end of August.

Harry Kane was absolute dog shit during the summer for the U21's, he was woeful.
