If we were sitting in relative safety I could kid myself we have a really good replacement lined up. Who of any decent quality is going to come to a bottom three club with league one football beckoning ?0
-
Indeed. Selling Reid was one of the most stupid decisions our club has ever made. And there's been plenty of contenders.golfaddick said:

This Roland bloke has taken three weeks to not just sell a major player, but our absolute best player. One that actually wanted to stay with Charlton and had a real connection with the fans.
Can't remember the last time I was this angry with CAFC, I really can't.0 -
Surely this means that we MUST have someone lined up already then doesn't it?SELR_addicks said:So who do we have left? Church, Sordell (who doesn't even play for us) and Pigott. Horrible situation.

Actions speak louder than words and the walk on his own, over to us away fans last night with a little wave had me fearing the worst. Maybe an 11th hour snag is all we can hope for :-(0
-
Deadline day is key. If for instance we get in Wood, Jackson and Reza by the time Jim White gets taken off the stove to cool down then we'll have done OK, and Yann's move will have funded it. We can also look to the loan window to see if we get any decent players in. If however we've got nothing then we're genuinely fecked. I've just had a text off a Barnsley fan actually feeling sorry for what a state we must be in. He's also delighted they won't have Yann to deal with0
-
Ha, ha, I thought it was you. It was a great show and looking at the result and performance last night sitting in a West end Theatre was a lot better than suffering with Charlton.NorthernAddick said:

Really doubtful that we'd have sold Smith had Powell realised he'd be (potentially) losing Yann just days later.flyingkiwiDK said:

If RD hadn't bought Charlton, let's face it, Yann, Stephens and Wiggins would probably have gone by now in any case to pay the bills without any hope of any replacements. Let's just wait and see what happens. North London Addick thinks everything will be ok and that's alright by me...4

Yes. We must. And that's why we shouldn't be slitting our wrists tonight.
Let's wait till Feb 1 to do it.1 -

The one time you need Tony Jimenez around with his pie on the sky player valuations and would you believe - he's off into the distance.
Shambles .... Absolute shambles3 -

This is the darkest day in my son's one month charlton supporting life.
He's kicking right off10 -
Can it get any worse, we never mustered a shot on target last night.....Oh hang on I suppose not crossing the halfway line is worse :-(flyingkiwiDK said:

it was a good business idea some said letting these contracts roll down,
However I know WIWLB would have very good sources, I am told that the offer was a good offer and was more than competitive for a player of Yann's age in the championship, and it seems it was not enough,
it will be the same if SCP goes we are Cafc fans not Yann and Powell fans,
I trust that there are players coming in and refuse to be too distraught by any sales4 -
Simeon Jackson and Michael Smith1
-
Thing is no matter what the offer you sell only when it strengthens you or you have to, unless we have somebody already lined up that can fill his boots this is mental. So what if the money is good, you all know from bitter experience we will suddenly move for another player and leave it too late, meaning we have to wait for the loan window to open and sign some rubbish player that nobody else wants.
#SadFace0 -
Do you think they are signings of the caliber needed to keep us up? In your opinion, would Powell be content with Yann leaving assuming we get our targets?nth london addick said:it was a good business idea some said letting these contracts roll down,

Cant see Jackson or Wood wanting to play for a struggling side, that creates little chances and plays on a cow field.0

Yann is 32, prone to injury and out of contract in the summer.
He is a mid champ player at best.
He isn't the future.
1 million would be crazy good business. Even 400k seems fair given that he can walk in the summer.
It may be time to have a little faith in RD. His vision seems to be working at standard liege.
He was left with a relegation level team. I'm sure he new this when he bought us.
I have faith in his vision. I expect the players we bring in to allow us to survive.
Most of the squad will be gone by next year and replaced by better. I expect us to be playing better football and challenging for promotion next year.13 -
I think £500k for Yann is good business. The noise about the departure/potential departures isn't coming via the club. What's to say that we a re not going about our business sensibly and quietly (ever the optimist)0

It's only good business if we replace him. And even then we'd still need another striker and a midfielder or two.AMJCAFC said:I think £500k for Yann is good business. We will see. I'm just not too confident we'll bring in good enough replacements.0 -
Who says we don't get in a good replacement like Wood or Jackson but for whatever reason they don't settle in or get injured then we still get relegated now with a striker on even more money than Kermorgant trying to pay his wages in League 1. Lunacy.0
-
trying to stay calm until the window closes but am beginning to think this might be the shittest takeover ever.2

Presumably in League One.WelshAddick said:

Two bob club. Fast becoming the joke of London football. Everyone from Leyton Orient and Brentford through Millwall have found money for strikers. Not us, we sell the only decent one.0

Sorry, but we are not Standard Liege - one of the biggest clubs in their country with an expectation of league championships.Absurdistan said:Yann is 32, prone to injury and out of contract in the summer.

We're Charlton, in the relegation zone of England's second division, selling the best player we have had in years and with practically zilch in return for it.

Could we swap Yann for the entire Bournemouth squad?0
-
I would only accept this if we did sign Simeon Jackson and Chris Wood.
But we won't, we will probably get Stuart Fleetwood and Izale Mcleod.
After all we arehumanCharlton.1 -
Does anybody actually believe we are bringing these 3 in ? One possibly....the one who's sitting in SL reserves.Garrymanilow said:Deadline day is key.
