  • Could you point me in the direction of these people slagging him off please. Every time we acquire someone we get threads with comments like this but I never actually find the comments from people slagging off the players!
    This
  • I just see it as a swap loan for AA..........if he is as good (or better) then it will be good for us.

    They're totally different players
  • Wish we could have both!
  • Pleased, my glass is always half full - play offs at least
  • What do we know of Yoni Buyens so far?

A player who played 4 Europa League games last season.

28 appearances for Liege last season; 41 appearances and 6 goals the season before.
12 goals and 103 appearances in total.

Capped by Belgium at U21 level.

Apparently cost Liege €1.32 million (over a million quid in English) from Mechelen, where Bobby Peeeters was his coach. Only 5'11" and a half - unfortunately fails the Charlton Life test.

    Sorry, Yoni. Too short.

    ;o)

Like the fact that Peeters has worked with him.

Yeah, didn't know that. Gives me more confidence.
  • 10 pages too much to trawl but I can't be the only one that thought Yoni is a c---.

I was meaning more in the numbers of personnel - 1 in, 1 out

Reams on ITTV recons he's the nearest we will ever get to a mark kinsella again , so if he's even half as good as kins then I'm happy!

Bloody hell, we'll if The Reams said that then we must be in for a treat!
  • We are going up say we are going up!
  • Not sure I buy that. It is obvious that Peeters will not have the level of influence over signings that previous "managers" have had, not least because of the clear preference for network and Belgian-connected players. Of course, he may well be keen on this guy, but generally I don't think there is any basis for confidence his judgements will be decisive.

I also think "everyone accepts AA was a success" is pushing it. Indeed, it wasn't even the unqualified view of the playing management (post-Powell).
Perhaps that was a royal "everyone".

    Who didn't rate him?

I accept that fitness was an issue with AA. With his assists against Leeds , Forest and QPR and the goal against Yeovil he made a decisive contribution to our survival .When he played it provided a creative influence which we otherwise lacked.

Back to Peeters , I accept it is a different model which he is working to but so far the rumour mill is pointing towards players who have links with him , I can't believe that we would sign players he did not rate.

If we work on the basis that Roland isn't stupid, we can assume he has learnt from his errors in January. So I don't think there will be players pushed onto Peeters who he doesn't want; that does not mean, of course, he will get all the players he wants.
  • I would say that if most fans would want him back, AA was a success. I am pretty sure most fans would so I think it is a correct assessment of him.
  • This Reams fella....how does he know so much about obscure European footballers?
    Genuine question.

Is Yoni the bloke who used to be in fingerbobs?
Good to see him moving on.

Edit - Turns out it was Yoffi, not Yoni.
Still think he could do a job for us.

  • If it's been used because it is a Hebrew name, then it's Yo nee, but I guess that's not much help :-)

Will that mean he can't play on the sabbath? We'd better hope we're on the telly on Sundays an awful lot then, hadn't we?

More than most of us do to be fair.

AA is a talented player and I'd agree that he contributed to the team's survival. I don't know about decisive, since Sordell and Harriott would also have a claim and they can't all be decisive, by definition. However, I think it's too easy to ascribe AA's lack of fitness to illness or lack of match practice. He had enough time to get fit. Another view, put to me by someone senior within the club who would know, is that AA doesn't put in the necessary work. Hence my comment. But if he was fitter I suppose we would never have seen him in the first place.
  • another one that seemed to take its time June 3rd was when I saw the twitter comment saying he had moved
  • why does he look like bob peters brother

Except Buyens isn't worth anything financially to Charlton as he belongs to Standard Liege.
