yes its Disappointing, but lets face it he is far to good for us and he wants to improve his career maybe play international football, for England or Spain or Uruguay whichever one it is he chooses. But come on lets not be bitter, He played well when he played, and we let his contract run down.

His father says there is a very good chance he'll stay to a Charlton fan on the 24th June and on the 25th June the club announce that he has declined to return to preseason training with us as he's looking to explore his options elsewhere. Even if the club posted that as soon as they heard from him it's the next day. If the club took a day or two to announce his departure while they told us about Morrison and Igor then it is possible (and not at all unlikely) that'd he'd already told the club he was leaving while Gus was telling PaulSturgess that there's a good chance he will stay.
I don't know about anyone else, but I don't feel silly about any of my posts now.
I never believed he'd stay. I believe he'd decided to go elsewhere before the end of the season. I don't blame the player for leaving but I don't think I will be able to believe what he, or his father, gives us as the reason for his departure. Those of you that want to continue to lay this at the door of RD by assuming that he left because Powell was sacked feel free, but I'll never believe that.
Clearly a move motivated by money and not a football decision.
As stated by RugbyAddick he is not yet ready for the PL so if he goes to a PL team he will be playing in their U21 team or be back on loan to the Championship.
Disappointing but lets concentrate on supporting the players who want to be here and not waste our time on those that don't.
It's a shame but I hope he chooses a club where he will get game time. I think he could play in the prem for a lower half team in terms of his skill and the fact this may lead to playing minutes. Any place he'll just sit in the reserves would be a waste for both of us. You've seen it with England's bright young generation at the WC, some of them are massively over hyped in terms of ability (Wilshere for example). I just don't want him to think he's made it off the back of a really good half season with us.

Football is a short career, and although paid well, you can't always knock a player for wanting to better himself.
Diego didn't sulk, he worked his bollocks off when playing, he didn't hand in requests or anything like that. He played out his contract and doesn't want to renew. Nothing really wrong with that.
Could smell this coming for ages, and boy does it stink. I'm not going to join in all the wishing him well - I think he has shat on the club and us fans from a great height and he can rot on someone else's bench as far as i am concerned. No, I don't blame him for setting his sights elsewhere BUT, as Jonjo showed, there is a way of doing that which shows respect and appreciation for where you have come from. Diego hasn't seen fit to even do that, so he can piss right off.

Staying at Charlton and giving back "loyalty" is absolute nonsense. He is way too good for our level (bottom half/relegation threatened in the Championship), and is playing catch up already with a lot of young prospects in the Premier League who have already played in the England side - some of which have just played in a World Cup.
Its all well and good some idiots saying "he isn't good enough" and "he will rot in reserves" - how on earth do you know? Diego is a confident lad and will rate his chances, as he should.
If he ends up at another Championship club I'll be disappointed, but I can't see that being the case.

Gutted as he was the best prospect I have seen in a long time but we move on
Spoke to Diego Poyet's agent earlier this week and he said #cafc were "making a big push to keep him".
"Diego appreciates that. He has been there long time. Other teams have shown interest - home and abroad. We need to work out best solution."
