Don't forget to Tweet this cretin - https://twitter.com/claire4devizes. That's the MP who's just awarded South Eastern another four years.cabbles said:
I need to get into Charing X. There's no other way to do that than get a tube. I bet I have to pay though and TFL will just stand there obstinate. What's the point of offering up free travel on DLR or buses when the majority of people on that line need London a Bdg or Charing X. I just keep firing off angry tweets. Even if I knw it's not getting me anywhere, I like them to feel the angerBrendan_O_Connell said:Oh, but it's ok because your overpriced tickets are valid on the already overcrowded DLR and local bus services.
Thank goodness for that eh?
Half an hour late to work this morning - passenger taken ill on a train, followed by congestion in the London Bridge area. It's alright though, because they had a pre-recorded message apologising for any inconvenience caused, so I feel much better now.

Excellent knowledge there. I will be sure to give her a tweet. Also, I love the fact that they send out tweets about finding a child's lost teddy bear as if they are heroes, yet just announcements, rather than apologies about a shit service.MrLargo said:

When i left 15 yrs ago, Southeastern were in the process of changing over from allowing local station staff monitoring the service and changing the departure boards and making station announcements on stations to a central based system.
The idea was (at the time) to have a central based department, based in Orpington i think to control everything, the idea being that one person would have a complete overview and this would not cause confusion locally. This person would monitor the train movements and work together with the area controllers/signalman and plan etc when problems happened.
We said that it wouldn't work, and it doesnt like we were wrong! IMO i think a lot of people would be a lot more sympathetic with train delays IF they were given correct up to date information, a simple (ish) thing to achieve but impossible when you have so many different companies working to make profits.1 -
this morning i got on a train where the driver did not even know what was happening at Charlton, until we got to Charlton, he then said we were going fast to London Bridge, well let me tell you that "fast" led to me being 25 minutes late, some of which was spent in Blackheath tunnel....at this rate there will be a petition for that minister Claire Perry to be booted out, i'd certainly sign it!!0

I'm sure she'd find employment elsewhere. Probably on the board of Southeastern's parent company.twiggyaddick said:at this rate there will be a petition for that minister Claire Perry to be booted out, i'd certainly sign it!!

That's if she isn't already on their payroll.1

Indeed. The only realistic explanations for deciding to extend South Eastern's franchise are that she's totally corrupt or totally incompetent. Either way, she's an ideal candidate for a senior position at South Eastern.iaitch said:That's if she isn't already on their payroll.

Again, i dont know if they still do it, but we used to have a thing called special stop orders.
If a train was cancelled we were often asked to issue "special stop" orders to drivers which would request him to make additional stops. These were requests and if at the time when when we had guards, if either said no, it wouldn't happen. And sometimes, when the driver agreed, he would forget to stop because it was simple as he did forget as it wasn't on his plan. Sometimes, but not as often, we would be instructed to issue the complete opposite, which was "not to stop" instructions. So, if a train was running late, the driver would be told not to stop at station. For example, a train pulls up at Charlton, he would be told to run fast to London Bridge. This might be the first the driver actually knows of any problems, hence the lack of on train station announcements.
These instructions were passed down from "control" and sometimes were very late notice meaning that these didn't have time to pass down the chain to the manned stations who wouldnt know anything until either an extra train stopped in the platform or flew past at 60mph.0 -
Along the lines of what @cafckev has said, here's something I saw on the screens when I was sat waiting for a train in Aberdeen a couple of weeks back: youtu.be/mg89mt9BiZs (sorry - don't know how to embed the video)0

The news said, due to the wet & windy conditions expected tonight (tail end of hurricane), expect the trains to be disrupted in the morning :-(0
-
Unless tomorrow is the first time you've ever travelled on South Eastern, surely you were expecting them to be disrupted regardless of the weather? Unless you travel before 6.30am, or between 11am and 4pm, the chances of your journey not being disrupted on any day of the year are minimal.Covered End said:The news said, due to the wet & windy conditions expected tonight (tail end of hurricane), expect the trains to be disrupted in the morning :-(

Perfect excuse for the boys at @South Eastern though. They can claim that no matter what precautions they put in place, the rain was just that slightly more acidic than usual etcMrLargo said:

Overheard a couple of inspectors telling a couple of police officers that assaults on ticket inspectors have gone up.
Judging by some of the ways I have heard ticket inspectors go on at people, i'm surprised.0
