In fact I must be really boring when it comes to music.Dazzler21 said:All of them.
I like all different kinds of music... I don't love any particular style. I do however think all situations have a music that suits them.
I like it when music that creates a dramatic atmosphere in movies... not so much away from them.
I accept when music is playing in the background in life and quite enjoy that subtlety.
I'd prefer a bar or a meal out over a nightclub because I like to converse with others and feel that Loud music is killing this skill... The skill of conversation is dissapearing.
When I turn the PS4 it's an odd twist as that once 'unsociable habit' is now the one where we socialise and converse the most.
We ask about one another, how each of us is, how the families are doing and of course... how to beat the next boss.
But that's just me. I enjoy music in a subtle way in life that fills silences... it's something I undoubtedly would miss if it were gone, but at the same time don't blast it into my ear drums to a level where I can't hear you speak unless you're bellowing into my ear over the soundwaves of whatever seems to be blaring out of the speakers.0 -
Don't get me wrong, I like the Stone Roses and that debut album is excellent. My original comment was I just don't understand the hysteria around them because of one album. The other point I was making was in response to Salad's comment that they were the first indie band to make it big but I'd argue that isn't the case.Algarveaddick said:
Does that not mean that the music endures and appeals to generation after generation of people discovering music for the first time though? So surely that means it has some worth? Although some may have bought it originally on vinyl and then later on CD, many are buying it for the first time twenty five years after it first came out. That will count towards the platinum figures, and rightly so.colthe3rd said:
Ok fair enough bad example to give but the Smiths did still breakthrough well before the Stone Roses. I do wonder how many of the Stone Roses albums have been sold way after it's release. And do re-releases and special editions count towards those platinum figures because they seem to release the album every couple of years.Salad said:
Unfortunatley that is not true.colthe3rd said:
That's not really true is it? The Smiths for one sold a lot more records well before the Stone Roses ever came along.Salad said:
To be fair it was much more than that, they were perhaps the first indie band to make a huge breakthrough.Uboat said:
One okay album, one shit album and that's it. They were just in the right place at the right time, with the right look and a gobby twat for a singer.colthe3rd said:Definitely agree with U2.
I wouldn't go as far as the Stone Roses are overrated but I do find the hysteria around them quite weird.
The Stones Roses album went triple platinum in the UK, The Smiths (far superior band, it should go without saying) only ever had one single platinum album (The Queen is Dead), let alone a double or triple.

I like Elbow too, though not as much as I used to. Agree about the last album.JessieAddick said:
Lol... Never thought being a fan of Elbow would be an indication of a strange musical taste. Anyway, whatever other people's opinions on them are, they will always be my favourite band. (although I was disappointed by their last album)Addick Addict said:
Please rest assured that doesn't make you a bad person. Just one with a strange sense in music. And there's nothing wrong with that.JessieAddick said:My favourite band's name has appeared a few times on this thread already...

Thank you. you're probably right. Rap will still always be shite though ( in my shite opinion).colthe3rd said:
Yes your opinion on this is utter shiteBedsaddick said:Kanye West
Fifty Cent

In fact All rappers. Utter shite3 -
When Elbow are good, they're very very good. I do think they're overrated, though. Too much filler on every album unfortunately apart from 'Leaders Of The Free World' which is a brilliant record2
-
Kanye West... I just don't get it at all.
This is not to say all rap is bad (although its not my favourite) but his recent stuff is just absolute drivel2 -

Disliking a genre is not the same thing as the bands in that genre being overrated. It is fair enough to say that Kanye West is an overrated rap artist because any rap enthusiast would say he is, but artists like Tupac, Biggie, Ice Cube etc. will never be considered overrated by the people who actually like the genre.6

Poor Nick, the most inoffensive of people who only wanted to bring joy to people's lives, was told he was great, but struggled to cope with life. Five leaves is a wonderful album, but then his illness kicked in and he has become a tragic figure. His influence on people like Ashley Hutchings,(Fairport convention) Paul Weller,\Kate Bush and the wonderful John Martyn is well known to name but a few.Riviera said:Nick Drake.
Bryter later, has some wonderful songs with a couple of outstanding compositions, 'At the Chime of a city clock' and 'One of these things first' and the sublime 'Northern Sky'. It is not fun music, or pop music for sure. But it will be played as long as people have ears, and a heart.
But then I like Frank Zappa, and all that type of strange music, that never get's played on mainstream, but what the hell has popularity got to do with quality?4 -
