Why are we struggling so much in the longer form of the game ?
I know there's a huge difference between 4 day and T20 but surely the confidence of T20 must filter through to the longer forms ?

Basically our batsmen are getting the same sort of scores in both types of game.

    CC/T20:

    Northeast 44.94/53.55
    D B-D 25.56/25.92
    Stevens 20.69/17.50
    Denly 37.88/19.60
    Billings 18.55/27.57
    Cowdrey 18.78/14.18
    Key 19.07/ -
    Blake - / 50.33

This can only be down to two things - shot selection and concentration/desire to occupy the crease.

I think there must be a mental attitude here. Difference between a kick around in the park and a real game.

Is Stevens opening the bowling all the time now?

    Seems to be.

Hence the decline in his batting.

To be the main man with both the bat and the ball is a lot to ask of a 39 year old.

At least Coles is having a decent year with the ball to give some support.

I'm at the Oval today. Good morning session for Kent in cloudy conditions. Clearing and brightening now so Surrey may push on after lunch. Srevens just opening the first over.

This has all the makings of a sub 170 second innings and a seven wicket defeat.

That's it. Stubborn resistance from the Curran brothers but Surrey 311 all out. T Curran caught off Hann. Kent have a slender lead of. 25.

Who'd have thought it when they lost the toss on that damp and sticky first afternoon! Now to bat sensibly until lunch tomorrow, and then bowl 'em out in the last two sessions!

Ball out for a duck. 9 for 2. Typical Kent.

Sam Currans with both wickets so far. I believe he is very young, about 17. Some talent and could have a big future.

Only just turned 17 a few weeks back too... Both currans have been approached by Ireland but have turned it down to commit to England!!

Early days yet but his career has started very well. Would love to see him for England in a couple of years.

That's all from me , got a train to catch.

Kent currently 52 for 3. A minor recovery led by Sam N-E but all of our batsmen have looked shaky, and especially so against Young Sam Curran. Don't know his figures so far in this innings but must be something like 5 overs, 3 wickets for 7 runs. Close to that anyhow.

Need to do a lot better to stand any chance of setting a defensible lead.

    Cheers fellow Kent sufferers!
