Not the biggest loss for us at present - has not really contributed in a number of games. Great talent but I question whether he is a team player.1

2. It's about his attitude as much as his ability/form
3. He's on bigger money
4. His undoubted talent (and no one has said he doesn't have talent) means he's more attractive to other teams because they know that if they can get inside his head and get him playing well consistently they will have a match winner.0 -
I know nothing about the rumours surrounding Tony Watt. What I do know is, he's a good player in a performing side.
I'll never forget him at the NW corner flag hanging on to the ball (assisted by Freddie Bulot) I sit in that section and could see him laughing and smiling as he mugged the opposition players. Truly worth the whole day to see that.
I hope he doesn't leave permanently.
I could accept a short loan away to help with fitness (if that is true)4 -
his best mates Fox and Muldoon won't be impressed.

I will be very interested to see how Watt gets on in Cardiff.

On Saturday, an 18 year old we signed from a Sunday league team outshon Demerai Gray, who had Bayern Munich scouts looking at him. A player who puts his back in to it and clearly has the potential to be 10x the player Watt is. I'm often sceptical about playing youngest from the off especially this low in the league. But look at Poyet, Gomez etc. I think our best bet is to get Lookman as comfortable at possible with Mak and when he does we'll have a committed, young talented player. 3 years younger than watt. Don't get me wrong you take Watt and give him the attitude of Jacko/ Pritchard and you have an absolute star, but I guarentee you wouldn't be seeing him in the championship.
I have on very good authority myself, as backed up by several on her and other forums that Watt is a complete disruption and a drag on wages. No matter how good he CAN be its not with the aggro of having him dragging others down, especially the likes of Lookman who more than likely strives to be as good as he is. Young players will replicate him and we can't afford that.
Let's not forget we also have KAG, Vaz Te and Reza all waiting to be played. Though I'd like to have a few more option honestly that's not all that bad, and with Igor hopefully back soon-ish, we can only hope that he's back to his best.
For me we would be much better off getting another winger in. Can only hope that Goufrann could be that.2 -

Could it be that watt has acted like a dick around the club with youth players coming through removing him was the only option,
Someone made a mistake thinking they could turn him into a decent pro footballer with bags of talent, they realised they couldn't and let him go seems a very positive move from the club

I was aware of this at the weekend, apparently the initiative came from the Club. He is highly talented, but from his history I always suspected that he has an attitude problem. The fact is that no player can be bigger than the Club, and we cannot allow anybody to break the terrific spirit that the team has shown in the last two games.3

He hasn't recaptured any form from the days when he made defences look silly & Vaz te will come in hungry, lookmans gonna grab his chance and Reza needs a goal and who knows where he could go from there!
I think its the right choice to let him go especially if he has a toxic attitude.4 -

Because mate this is a prime example of why the football strategy our club is adopting is so fundamentally flawed. We only signed Watt because he was surplus to requirements (for whatever reason) at another of our owners clubs. Exactly the same as Tucudean. It may well be he is a bad egg, and needs to be outed (though if a knowledgeable, traditional and connected manager like Slade thinks there is something to work with, that's telling). Wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't get on with Jackson (I suspect he is having a huge influence of what's going on last few weeks), but if he is so bad then we shouldn't have touched him in the first place given we were the best positioned club in the whole world to know if he was a potential problem, or he just needs to be managed better, by an experienced manager.
Watt may well be a problem, but getting to this point is the real problem.

We were right to sign Tony Watt last season because we were going down and he gave us (players and supporters) the boost we needed. Without him, it's unlikely we would have had such a dramatic recovery and I like others, loved watching his committed, often brilliant performances.
But if he can't behave himself and be a good pro (and I understand that we can only take others' word on this) then he can't be part of a club that wants to try to promote younger players. You can't have the likes of Diarra, Jackson and Cousins busting a gut but have someone else acting the maggot.
It's a shame....a real shame....because Tony Watt has provided some brilliant entertainment whilst at Charlton but there's a reason he's not playing at a higher level and it's got little to do with ability I suspect.11 -
