Waiting for the 'Head's gone' title when he leaves...
Give him til Christmas.5 -
he's still not officially here yet, when on the OS etc etc0
-
Is this an interim appointment? Or a permanent one (in which case we'll need to start looking for a replacement soon)?0

Steve was asked by Roy Hodgson, Ray Lewington and Head of Analysis Andy Scoulding – colleagues from their time together at Fulham – to watch international games on their behalf, an offer he accepted with the backing of Reading FC.
Steve said, “It was a pleasure and honour to work for England.
“I worked for Roy at Fulham as Head of Opposition Scouting for two and a half years, in that time we went to the Europa League final so he knew what I could produce. And like everyone I was delighted he got such a positive result by winning England’s group.
“I’m exceptionally grateful to Nick Hammond and the Manager for agreeing to it, it worked in the Club’s favour as well in terms of watching players.”3 -

Interestingly , he is/was at Wolves as head of international scouting - so fits into Roly's foreign players crap0

Never heard of him. Head - did he get the job from Sue Parkes?0
-
Good thing his parents chose not to name him Richard1

I've not heard of him, but there's not many of us, that are experts on Chief Scout/Head of Recruitment.
His CV looks very good to me and he's even been doing some work for England.
On the face of it, it looks like a good appointment.
So on that basis I'm pleased, unless something negative comes to light.
Welcome Steve.8 -
You can but you have to catch him firstHenry Irving said:Had never heard of him not that that means anything.
Seems to have worked for a lot of high profile teams and must have decent knowledge of players in England plus a lot of contacts.
Can't beat a third division part time manager working from Belgium but this bloke will have to do instead.

Yes, I think the idea was for us to think it was an appointment agreed by the new manager. Nice try, Katrien.LargeAddick said:was told this a couple of days ago but that he would be announced after a new manager was appointed. Have I missed that bit of news?

To those that know him he's called 'Dick'0

Fixed that for you ;-)sammy391 said:Interestingly , he is/was at Wolves as head of international scouting - so fits into Roly's foreign crap players

Can't see him staying, looks over-qualified for League 1. Expect him to leave before the start of the season when he gets to know the incumbents better.0

Great we're really motorng now!
We should have a couple of turnstyle operators starting by August and then there's the new sofa...7 -
I wonder who and where they are looking for the new manager role now. I appreciate that a lot of players/managers will be on their holidays now, but it has all gone quiet. Given the mess we're in they don't have the luxury of timeAirman Brown said:

Probably better qualified for the role that he is being appointed to than any other single hire the club has made since RD rolled into town.
Putting aside, for one moment, that equally or better qualified people have been allowed to leave in the time, it is at least a step in the right direction.
Welcome Steve, hope you do well as the shite that has gone before is not your fault and if you do well it'll be good for the club.5 -
Feels like a prothero under slater/Jimenez move this0

That's blooming generous!falconwood_1 said:Waiting for the 'Head's gone' title when he leaves...

I was going to say September.

Head of Recruitment & Ticketing. Neither role big enough for a whole person.....3

There's no one to type the contracts.

Now we just need a manager and director of football to actually sign the players he recommends.0 -
Is it official yet or has he resigned already?3

I dreamt of appointments like this back when I was a child and started supporting us.
Thanks Roland #dreammaker

Never heard of him. But that's not a problem. Anyone heard of Malcolm Fidgeon?
The first issue is, does he bring a network with him, or is he going to tap into an existing network. The worst case scenario is starting from scratch and having to develop a new network. He will need at least two opposition scouts to cover all future opponents.
What database of information/knowledge does he bring with him? The first job will be to go through the non-retained lists and match it up with players he's been following. Ideally he should have 3or4 players on his list for each position.
His biggest problem will be identifying players to suit the managers game plan or style of play. We have no manager at the moment, so how is he going to do that?
As we all know, the policy of the last two seasons has been to recruit a bunch of players and tell the coach to make a team out of them, which is unworkable and one of the reasons we have been relegated. Has that policy changed?
How does he fit in with the laptop scouts in Belgium, who have consistently sent over players not suited to British football? Are we recruiting a core of British players, above the standard of League One? because that is the only way out of this Division.
Good luck with all of that.
By the way, Malcolm Fidgeon was the Man Utd scout for Southern England. He was responsible for Giggs & Beckham going to Old Trafford. Malcolm was an ex-Amatuer player, who was a headmaster at a secondary school in Harlow when I knew him. You don't have to be well known to do the job. (He spotted Ryan Wilson on a visit to Manchester, which co-incided with a Salford Boys game. Beckham was always going to United, but needed looking after while playing schoolboy football in Walthamstow. Malcolm persuaded Spurs to allow him to train there during term time).16 -
5 months is how long he'll be here.Henry Irving said:
More like 9 monthsAFKABartram said:At the moment it's just a name in a role, proof will be in the outcome. We had an experienced Uk Head Scout with a strong network of contacts, and he left because he wasn't being listened to and the Club's lead on these things was decided in Belgium.
We've now replaced him five months later, with someone of a similar background and experience to the one who left.
Let's see what influence he gets allowed, and what impact that has0
