I agree on the silence is more powerful, my Grandad often spoke of the ground turning their backs on masse to Arsenal when they first returned and played at the Valley, they ran out to complete silence...one of my all time I wish I was there moments

Agreed... I'd love to see that happen at the Valley as reckon that would send a HUGE message

What season would that have been?

But its not the worst result in years... Its the worst result this season yet Huddersfield scoring FIVE against us last season was a lot worse.

Christ they only finished a few places ahead of us last season yet somehow managed to put that many past us

I'd take a spanking against Huddersfield or Hull over losing at home to AFC Wimbledon any day

I find this site depressing , our team depressing , the owners depressing , the protests depressing and the results depressing .

Apart from those , being a Charlton supporter is just great .

What really frustrated me more than anything else today was how Wimbledon can have a player on their books like that young powerful troublesome massive striker they brought on as a substitute and we have correspondingly utter shit like Piggot who we are forced to persevere with . How many seasons was Piggot given to prove himself whilst clogging up opportunities for others and what total idiot was responsible for that garbage decision ? We should be able to attract players like that Wimbledon forward given who we are but why don't we ? Why do we have to have Piggot , Munns and Muldoon as examples . Message to coaching staff - It's not rocket science - they aren't ever going to be good enough . We can see that , why can't they ?

Because the level's so much worse. Hull are in the Prem this season. AFC Wimbledon only formed five minutes ago and we're down in League One, a league we should be looking to win, and they're turning us over. It's far more depressing to me
  • gutted as for the mostpart we played well and the reason we lost was mainly because we lose possession too easily and because ajose and magennis are again giving poor performances and no amount of balls to them worked. Magennis was meant to be our new kermorgant but although he had some good games to begin with he is not winning enough ball and ajose should now make way for novak. There were some very good passages of play but the second half needed jackson to direct things and even get another goal. He is the only leader we have and he was missed today. Shame. Gutted.

But this is the level we're at for a reason...

We will lose games this season and ultimately its a game between two teams of eleven players, just because one of those squads was only formed five minutes means nothing to me

Slade is not a master tactician. Nice bloke, talks the talk. Trips over when walking. Mid table team and the decline continues.

I don't think he talks the talk. What he said bout the grumbling by fans when Ricky Holmes was taken off came across as condescending. But when he asked Terry to give him a second press conference so that he could talk about the penalty...that sounded really small time. Like a really really low rent Allardyce/Dyche/Pulis who are really small time Lord Fergs.

As far as the tactical part, that seems strikingly obvious. Going on commentary when Elliot came on at 60 minutes he changed the game and gave Konsa and Pearce a ragged time. It sounded obvious that Slade needed to respond by bringing Bauer on. But he didn't. And from the sounds of things we dropped deeper and deeper until we made a mistake and we conceded. And from there the second sounded inevitable.

Despite being on the back foot for the last 20-30 minutes, Slade made one change, a like-for-like for a forward on 68 minutes. We conceded on 78 and 85 and Slade didn't make any changes despite having Jackson (known for a key goal) and Botaka (who came on and looked great last weekend) on the bench.

We can blame the regime for a lot of things, but they hired a British manager as demanded by many, gave him a lot of free reign to overhaul the squad, and yet thus far he's come up far short on the coaching bit. I fully expect we'll hear the same lines about us being good for stretches, about us not doing the basics right, and about the team needing time to gel. But all but three of today's squad have been with us since Bury, and the back four has been pretty consistent throughout. Slade has his players, going on Charlton Live it sounds like he's banished Ba to the U-21s despite the fact that he offers something different, for better and for worse. As far as I'm concerned the time for excuses has run out, and if we don't start getting better results the blame should lay with the manager and the team he has assembled.
Slade would dispute the "free rein", "has his players" I'm sure. How much of the football budget is being spent on Vetokele, Sarr, Watt, Ceballos, Teixiera, Ba and Johnson?

Not defending Slade's tactics but his hands have been tied by the idiots to some extent and that is a factor.

Never went but I'll be at Scunny Tuesday. Sounds like Ajose carried on from where he left off last week, totally ineffective.

Just seen the goals on Sky, Solly and Lookman mugged off for the equaliser and the cross in for the winner unchallenged in the left back slot why? Peace out jumped 1-2.

Patience everybody it's the key word apparently :disappointed: .

  • The above post is just ridiculous. Big William would not have posted that if we'd hung on for a 1-0 win, but no.

    winning = we're just fab
    losing = we're "tripe".

Don't blame Mogodon for my rants :-)

AFC Wimbledon weren't even a club not long ago....still something like 9 divisions below us a few years back. Now they're rocking up at 'fortress Valley' and turning us over. It's an absolutely sickening reminder of how far this club has fallen under this shower of shite. Even well run clubs are on the end of a real spanking every now and then, very few lose at home to AFC Wimbledon. Football snobbery maybe, but this isn't a case of how far they've come, it's how far we are falling.

I'm in the 'depressed' camp. Played well for 20 minutes and reasonably - better than Wimbledon anyway - for another 30. Then, I don't know, Lookman and Holmes tired maybe. Whatever, we started knocking in long balls like the Wimbledon of old and gave them way too much possession. I'm not sure if it is Slade's fault tactically, I don't think he had the players he needed on the bench, or in the squad, to sort things out.

    Wimbledon. Christ.

Yet we've only fallen two Divisions... Yes we might further but anyone can catch us if they climb high enough same with Wigan / Doncaster etc. who have beaten and been in higher divisions than us recently

Or what do Wimbledon have to do before it becomes "acceptable" for them to beat us... Sorry but Football snobbery from ANY fan at ANY club is simply pathetic.

There will never be a day when someone announces that "the Division you're in is the Division you'll remain forever, because we're abolishing promotion / relegation so accept it" so new teams will always potentially come and go through the League's, no different to someone from the lower classes winning the lottery and being able to send their kid to the same school as Lord Up-My-Own-Arse

Where to start? Why not at the beginning. My second visit to the valley this season having not renewed. The first that I've paid for. Online system treated me as a total stranger at 1130 and I felt like one for most of the day. Said hello to a few old friends. Good to see them. Went and sat in the front row of the upper west towards the away end. The perfect place to see our decent start and our pathetic capitulation. Strange atmosphere. A load of silent tartan blankets brigade and a few protest shirt wearing people. I sat with no one within five seats in any direction and pondered my thoughts. A relaxing hour and a half of contemplation and the odd moment of entertainment but ultimate frustration. But I didn't need to be a clairvoyant to see the end coming. This is league one folks and it ain't pretty. Our two magicians, Lookman and Ricky entertained from time to time and frustrated in equal measure. You are allowed to pass guys. Otherwise it was a tale of tactical ineptitude and a display that reminded of a Tesco value range sandwich and school dinners custard - not much in the middle and way to many lumps. We lost a game that we could have won and, yet again, I left frustrated at our tactical limitations. New manager, slightly different variety of shite. But shite nevertheless. And the most galling and illuminating thing for me? I realised, finally, that I don't give one any more. A shite that is. As Captain Scott once famously said, I may be gone for some time.

Oh, and I stayed to the bitter end and was home in dartford at 1735. My mate drives like Verstappen but even so.....how times have changed.

  • Very weird afternoon and my first home game of the season having been away. A great family reunion but what in the name of God have they done to my football club?

No Red-Robin, no history footage on the big screen and what was that cheesy canned singing of Valley Floyd Road on the PA system? And where have all the programme sellers gone? (not that I was going to buy one) .

And who were those unfortunate little kids waving flags in front of the east stand before kick-off? Poor little buggers looked like child slaves trafficked in by the regime to hail the glory of our illustrious mad leader, Commandant Duchatelet. One of the little lads waving his flag blindly like a brainwashed automaton was actually wearing an Arsenal shirt for God's sake.

Given we were watching two very mediocre League 1 sides with zero chance of getting anywhere near the play-offs I thought the football was quite entertaining in parts and the Voice of the Valley was good to read during the boring bits where we kept punting it 60 yards to Magennis who is clearly unable to jump. Fox, Konsa and Solly at least look like they still care and Lookman and Holmes are good enough for any League 1 team but as for the rest. What a joke.

Significantly worse than the league 1 team Parky put together for £5-50, some nectar card points and the lorry load of out of date biscuits for Doc Doherty. I turned up every other week to watch that shower because they still seemed to represent my club.

Doesn't really matter who was on the pitch today because it's clearly a broken club and a dysfunctional organisation and they don't tend to win much in any walk of life. Just ironic we were playing the proud AFC Wimbledon because the Valley felt plastic and lacking in soul. Did I miss the protests?

Nice burgers as usual but at £23-00 per ticket I won't be rushing back but at least I am so alienated, a home defeat to a rival London club doesn't even ruin the week-end.

Sadly got one more match (already bought football for a fiver tickets) but then I'm out. Season ticket gone and after today I don't think I can be bothered with individual matches. I wasn't even angry when AFC Wombles went ahead. Everyone around me saw it coming and I just thought yeah, same old shite. When the feelings gone, it's gone.

Ajose seems to need a kick up the jacksey

I stand corrected. Can't have been very loud because I always liked to sing it and it was hardly drowned out by the noise of the crowd.

Was he explaining why he has no chance of keeping his wife from endlessly gushing about Katrien's superbness?
  • A great result for AFC and good luck to them, but they will admit they should have been dead and buried after an hour, as we had enough chances to kill the game off

The last 30 minutes was a negative mark for me against Slade, our play degenerated into hoofing the ball up towards Magennis, when our goal threat came from Lookman and Holmes running with the ball. There was no attempt to change things tactically, even after their second goal and baffled why Botaka didn't come on
  • Forgive for I have sinned.

My 2nd game of the season and when we scored early in was hoping for a toning to rekindle my enthusiasm.

But much as we were on top and they didn't have a shot we also created few clean cut chances and went long more often than not.

We looked pedestrian most of the time and when did find good positions we couldn't add the killer pass.

Seemed when Holmes switched with Lookman we were exposed on our right, Solly got beaten too easily once and then again to allow the first.

    Atmosphere flat even when winning.

I joked on the way out that it was the protesters fault. Didn't actually think anyone would actually say it seriously.

No, there is a lot more wrong than a 750 black and white scarves.

But, but, but still only 7 games in.
  • Walked round Bluewater buying suits for work instead of going. Only checked the score at half time. Then again at full time and to be honest had no real feeling either way. That angers me and it upsets me. But I refuse to give one penny of my money to this regime.

Instead I buy a more expensive suit.

I cannot wait for this bunch to just go.

Russell Slade is nothing more than lip service to in some way try and placate the fans. The only box he ticks is that he is British. 18 years without a real managerial achievement to his name is no reason to have employed him.

    I want my Charlton back
  • I don't understand the "we lost to AFC Wimbledon" it's our worst result ever talk. They're not a pub team, they're in this division on merit, and so are we
