Southeastern train disruption (franchise to be taken over by Govt p191)

Nothing from Bexley, but I knew that so got a cab to Woolwich Arsenal and got the DLR into Canary Wharf. 40 minutes door to door.

Got on the already packed 7.19 from Eltham. At lewisham the driver started trying to shut the doors literally about 10 seconds after opening them - because that's the really safe thing to do obviously!

I know it will never happen, but what about giving free travel when the trains are mashed up like this.

I would guess as no trains stopping at Mottingham or New Eltham lots of people going up to Eltham. Car park was full when I got down there this morning.

Got 0720 bexleyheath line from dartford. It was only a little late but I didn't realise you could squeeze that many peeps onto a train. Elf an safety anyone?

I did that about 35 years ago during a strike, borrowed a bike from a mate and enjoyed it so much I bought one.
The rest is history so to speak.
You'll get fitter, save a LOT of money, learn new hand gestures etc.
Cold rain is not much fun but nor is trying to cram into a crowded train.

I'm not going to criticize KM for being on Platform 7 at London Bridge.

It could just be she is trying to appeal to our better side and is actively taking down train numbers.

The rescue train arrived. But it wasn't able to pull the broken down train. So we all had to leave the broken down train and get on the rescue train. The broken down train could still be there! Got back to Sevenoaks 2 hours 20 minutes after leaving Sevenoaks.

The old wrong type of rescue train excuse.

I wonder if this morning's derailment in Lewisham is along the same stretch of track that the trains have been going slowly along for the past few weeks? Southeastern really need to sort out their sub-contractors.

Just to point out again that Southeastern don't have anything to do with track or sub-contractors. This is done by Network Rail (which is basically the government).

SE make a payment for the use of the track to Network Rail and they lease the trains from the train leasing companies - so it is otiose to say they have nothing to do with the track or that they do not have contracts with Netrail or the train leasing companies. Customers contract with SE who then sub contract with Netrail and the train leasing companies to provide the service we pay for. It is SE's job to manage their subcontractors not the customers - anyone in real business who blamed their subcontractors for not delivering on their contracts would soon go out of business and deservedly so.

Indeed. Unfortunately train service providers don't have an option on who they can use.

So how should Southeastern deal with a situation when another company using the Network Rail (govt owned as pointed out above) block the track and put it out of use? Are you suggesting they use that alternative rail network which doesn't exist?

Exactly. Especially when Network Rail are a government entity who hide behind the "we're heavily investing in the railway" line.

Come on Woolwich line - we're relying on you.
