Watch Chris go get Morro from Birmingham now!cafctom said:Kermorgant, Solly, Wiggins, Morrison, Jackson, Wright-Phillips, Stephens - all players that Powell made regulars in the side and got the best out of.
Hard to understand how watching those names play regularly in a Charlton shirt wasn't 'entertaining'. What exactly are you expecting when you follow a small club like ours'?1 -
Friend who is mates with Michael Turner asked do I wanna go and see a game down there and meet Sir Chris afterwards , my restraining order is still in place so it’s a no go .17

Jesus, apparently I picked the wrong time to stop paying attention to this thread.Oakster said:
Says who. How do you know? Don't tell me how football works.SDAddick said:
Just understand that there are some of us who think those years were very special, and that Chris Powell is an amazing person who did incredible things for this club, but we (I) also don't think that that can be repeated, at least not now. And bringing him back does not automatically revert things to January 2014. That's not how football (or time) work.Oakster said:
So true & it amazes me that people are negative about him - The Powell years were an incredible time & the last time I felt a connection between the staff/players & the fans - would welcome him back as our manager in a heartbeat & I couldnt give a flyng f*ck what formation he plays.Nug said:I wish him well and have no doubt he’ll do well. In fact I hope he does, some people on here and elsewhere have very short memories about what amazing success he was for us, quite embarrassing some of the comments to be honest.
I will take Powell's vast expertise in the game & proven success in the game over yours I am afraid SD.
BTW I am strongly suspecting that you are actually Thomas Driesen with all the nerdy stat stuff gained from watching us on a computer & in-depth knowledge of Southend United's tactical propensities!!
But um, at no point did I say I knew more than Chris Powell. I just said that you can't go back in time. Because that's literally not how linear time works.*
I don't understand how any of what you said was a takeaway from my post.
Also, when do I ever use stats?
*I know worm holes and bending space and the multiverse theory make time travel theoretical, but as yet unproven.3 -
Jeez as much as I respect and admire Powell, and I wish him all the best, please let's move on3

I've got an idea. You and the President can 'move on' (part of which could involve not opening threads about Chris Powell) whilst some of us will continue to take an interest in Chris's career.Daarrzettbum said:Jeez as much as I respect and admire Powell, and I wish him all the best, please let's move on

So let me get this straight - am I only allowed to take an interest in any aspects of football not involving someone formerly associated with Charlton?7

Take as much interest in whatever you want and don’t let others tell you you’re wrong to, mate.Exiled_Addick said:So let me get this straight - am I only allowed to take an interest in any aspects of football not involving someone formerly associated with Charlton?
If that’s taking an interest in how Southend do now because of Powell being in charge, then great. Because it is natural to take an interest in a small part of a bigger game that you love.
Powell made us have our most successful period we have had for a long time - the affinity he holds with the club, the connection and the love he shares with the club cannot be doubted. It’s good to see him do well and if that means we take an interest in his career and keep an eye out for Southend’s results, so be it.
If we can’t do that in football, taking an interest in other aspects of the game that we are so passionate about, instead of solely focused around our club, then I find that very sad and quite boring.
We are losing the game for the supporters as it once was. And with how the modern game is progressing, let’s not further take away the connection that we do still have.21 -
And why can't people just follow someone's career and be pleased for him?The_President said:

I genuinely can’t think of someone else in football who I want to see succeed
Pretty much wherever he goes apart from Palace or Millwall, I would love to see him hit the heights he did with us.
The bloke’s a legend34 -
Powell is one of the greatest men to have been involved in Charlton. I am proud of him and want to follow his career. Why do some people think there is something wrong with that. I also follow the careers of Curbs, Gomez, Shelvey, Stephens, Pope, Morrison, Kemogant, Elliot etc. Am I weird?
Anyway there is no-one like Powell, a a magnificent player . a magnificent manager but even more importantly a superb human being.45
