Team played well, Charlton fans in the pub have no idea how they won the game.

"A long and expensive day out to The Valley. I remember the Back to The Valley campaign and the ground being rebuilt. Surprised by how dated it looks, concrete all over the place, etc.
We had a great chat with a couple of Charlton fans on the train from London Bridge. Basically an our owner is worse than yours exchange!!
Charlton scored a scabby goal, without Dack we struggle and today it showed. Hopefully Doncaster beat Wigan and we get the chance for a title winning celebration. It can still happen but we missed a real opportunity today against a poor Charlton side. "

We are amazing. Great day followed by a few drinks in the (in)famous Miller's Arms in Bexley for my cousin. And finishing the day on a train. 100% Charlton!3

Never thought I'd be given Marshall a MOTM largely for a defensive performance. He was amazing, hitting form just at the right time.

Thought the CAFC fans got us across the line today - absolutely fantastic effort and I can’t remember the last time I saw this unity between team and fans - a special day and honoured to have witnessed it.
Blackburn have a much better squad than us and as Bowyer said, several had played in the Premier League so, although we could not match them technically we more than matched them for fire, determination and will to win the ball.
I was so impressed by the way we closed down quickly and in numbers and even when we didn’t win the ball we made enough of a nuisance of ourselves to force an error and recover the ball that way.
Yes we had a bit of luck but you make your own luck with that sort of commitment and Marshall’s goal line clearance (he got to it like a mini-rocket) was indicative of our overall desire, workrate and excellent defending under pressure.
Amos was superb when called upon and is getting up there as one of my favourite all time CAFC keepers. Some of his saves are not far behind Nick Pope’s double wonder save against Burnley at The Valley - a performance that saw him snapped up by Sean Dyche and look at him now.
Agree with the poster who said that Reeves should have come off earlier - not because he was crap but because he’d run himself into the ground as had so many players as the game neared its conclusion - a normal situation when a team is up against technically superior opposition.
I will never forget today, not just for the football or the result against odds on favourites but for the CAFC fans who made such a difference as the feeling spreads that we are getting our Charlton back.11 -

Thought last week would be a difficult act to follow , but that was incredible today . Two good old school clubs , passionate fans creating anew amazing atmosphere . Icing on the cake was Johnine Jackson's speech - proper Charlton legend . The last two weeks I had forgotten that Roland exists and we are still a special club .5

What a thrilling, heroic battling performance from the Addicks!
So many great posts on here which capture the essence of the day, so just to add:
- Konsa is improving very well and is strong defensively. I wish he would learn to get forward more to support and prompt the attack. The one marauding run he did in the second half, with a couple of deft one-twos thrown in, led directly to the great shot from JFC.
- JFC himself was fabulous. I don't think I've seen a more complete box to box midfield performance since the days of Kinsella and Parker.
- Kashi is a tremendous player at this level, harrying and snapping away in midfield. His passing is 90% efficient, accurate, clever, but 10% rubbish with misplaced passes likely to cause us grievous damage in the second half. I don't know if he loses concentration, or what, but he really needs to tighten up on those mistakes.
- Echo the points about Marshall.His defensive work was just superb.
- We've really seen what Ben Reeves is capable of since Karl Robinson's departure. He is hugely talented but has a tendency to run into trouble. Plus, he's totally knackered after an hour. Has he ever finished a full 90 minutes for us?
Brilliant support from the fans. Take a bow Covered End, you were magic. It would be great to keep that type of loud and proud singing going every game. The passion generated by the crowd, by Lee Bowyer, by the characters like Jason Pearce on the pitch feels like Charlton ought to be.
Just need the takeover to happen next week and my football world will at long last be getting back to the wonderful place it should be.10 - Sponsored links:

Thought we defended extremely well. We won most first balls and when we were caught out of position everyone worked hard to keep us in the game.
Not a great spectacle from footballing performance but we showed loads of character which was great.1 -
Went at the last minute.....got to The Valley at about 12 noon, sat in my car opposite Marion Park, walked to the ground about 1, had a hot dog and at 1.30 went in through the turnstiles. Sitting in the East Stand Block F in Row E, as near to front as I wanted to be....I just wanted to be close to where I used to stand as a 5 year old kid. The atmosphere was electric, The Rovers fans were in fine voice but The Covered End was rocking!!!
For the first time in years I was screaming and shouting (sometimes abuse at the lino, he was crap!!), the first half I thought we looked solid and got a deserved lead, the second half there were a few squeaky bum times, but we repelled Rovers pressure...then 7 minutes added time.....but with some game management we saw it through to the end, a fantastic win, 3 points and an even better chance of the play-offs. I stayed behind cheered on the JJ and the players on the walk round the pitch, got back to my car, drove back to Leicestershire. A great day out, it brought back so many memories, well done not just to the team BUT to the home crowd and especially The Covered End.....thanks to everyone I had a great day. Now just 3 points next week and I'll try to be in the country for the play-offs. COYR (oh and please sod off RD)26 -

We are not half as well organized in defence as some here thinks, and sitting back deep won't work again.
The team worked very hard but also benefited from good luck today !!!
If we are serious about the playoffs we should beat Rochdale.

Not much I can add to all the already brilliant posts, although I would like to point out a few observations.
Firstly, it may not have been pretty & we may have been second best during the 2nd half but you can't fault the commitment & passion the players showed. Some of the tackles that Marshall, Konsa, Pearce & Bauer made awesome. I didn't think that Magennis or Reeves had terribly good games (Big Josh hardly won any headers in the first half & Reeves continually went backwards rather than forwards), but it would be churlish to moan too much when its all about the overall result. I don't care that we scored a scruffy goal (about bloody time) or that Blackburn dominated the 2nd half - just compare the stats to the reverse fixture; there we had more possession & more shots, but we lost. Also to think that we won without Fosu & with Mavididi only making a cameo appearance - 2 of our more influential & attacking players.
My main concern is that we don't have much threat upfront & no real impact from the bench. I think Ajose should be rested next week as he's played a lot of games in a short space of time (probably more than he's done all season) as long as Mavididi is fully fit & maybe use Zyro a bit more. I don't know if KAG can play if we make the play-offs (which I think is now a 80/20 certainty) but I fear that we could run out of steam just at the vital moment.
Anyway, I'm going up to Rochdale with the knowledge that we have something to play for, which is not something I thought would be the case 3 months ago. It would be nice to go there with Plymouth having lost to Scunny and therefore almost certain to be in the play-offs, but this is Charlton & so I don't expect that will be the case.
PS. I did say that 70 points wouldn't be enough. When KR left we had 52 points & 10 games to go. I said that it would be a big ask to get into the play-offs & we would need another 20 points - 6 wins & 2 draws. We've got 6 wins & 1 draw. All credit to Lee Bowyer.7 -
Blackburn were the Second best team at the valley this season after Wigan. Fantastic 3 points achieved with guts and lady luck.
Didn't have Fosu's X factor today but the team battled as if their lives depended on it.
Today match was a throw back to a by gone age when the valley would rock with a passionate crowd.
Marshall had his best game and Amos has been superb in the last 10 matches.
Kashi enjoys these hard game and the two CB were awesome.
No weak links today but we must feed Ajosie at Rochdale.
45 games gone and after Tuesday night, unless Plymouth lose it's a 1 game shoot out.2 -
Really really happy to see Marshall getting so many MotMs on the players marks thread. Lot of people weren't sure about him, but good to see him being marked fairly, despite that. He's apparently a top fella too.6

Was a real fight of a game, 11 warriors out there. Special mention to Marshall who defensively reminded me of a John Robinson at his best. Shame for Amos that the player of the season vote has finished, he's been immense.
Bowyer really deserves a lot of credit how he's got the players fighting for the cause, 6 weeks ago i'd have never believed we'd have a chance of the play off's.
I'm hoping Scunthorpe whip Plymouth midweek and we cruise into 6th at the weekend.
Was the best atmosphere at home I can remember for a long time, those last 15 minutes were unbelievable, my voice is only just returning. There's no better feeling than being in the covered end when everyone is in full voice and picking up three points. 3 more cup finals.0 -
Like many I thought the season was over after the Wimbledon & Scunny defeats so full marks to Bowyer & JJ for masterminding wins against 3 of the best sides in the division without conceding a goal. Of course it could still go horribly wrong next weekend but to have it in our own hands going into the last game was as much as we could hope for, and if Scunny can beat Plymouth on Tuesday night it would take a very unlikely set of results to stop us getting to the Play-Offs, although what happens from there is anybodys guess. Well done to the lads for putting in a great shift today, and although we probably benefited a bit from Blackburn having already being promoted you still have to get the job done.
