Well done the Hamlet. Their 4th playoff in a row, I think, so they were overdue. The crowd were amazing. 120 minutes of constant singing.

It's much more fun than league football, this non-league lark.

National league South should be decent next season, a few fairly big clubs with decent support and only 1 can win it.

Yesterday leaves us (Hendon) pondering our future. We have no real idea which league we will be playing in....could be more or less the same league as this year or it could be the Southern League with journeys to Dorchester, Weymouth etc (good for fans but not so good for players and staff).

Our manager, Gary McCann, has been in charge for something like 11 years now. We've recently lost two play-off finals (to Margate and yesterday to Dulwich) and I wonder if he'll finally call time on his Hendon stint. We all hope not but he might feel it's never going to happen with Hendon. Unlike Dulwich, we weren't able to follow up our last good season with another. After the Margate defeat, we endured two awful seasons and were nearly relegated last season.

Dulwich's fan-base pretty much guaranteed they would always be challenging for top spots. Hendon's lack of fan-base means we rely on Gary McCann's undoubted ability to find gems and turn them into real players EG: two of our forwards yesterday were playing at a much lower level last season. To be fair, Gavin Rose has also has a very good record of this at Dulwich (he's been a brilliant manager for them).

Dulwich have a hard road ahead and need to get the ground thing sorted. Hendon did the ground sharing thing for about 7 seasons (with Wembley FC and Harrow Boro) and it pretty much eroded an already dwindling fan-base. Dulwich can ride that out for another season or so, but I can't see huge numbers of fans schlepping over to pub-less Mitcham for too long....especially if victories are a little harder to come by. Maybe they'll pick up support from the Mitcham area? Non-league fans like going to games every Saturday and Tuesday, so perhaps a few less hard-core Tooting fans will watch Dulwich. It happened to us at Harrow....half of our crowd were Harrow supporters!

The lack of bar income will also hurt Dulwich, as it already does Hendon, who whilst playing rent free at Silver Jubilee Park, have to concede all bar takings to the ground owner (quite rightly so). The new arrangement at Silver Jubilee Park is much better for Hendon.....who not only had to pay Harrow £25k a year rental for 3 seasons but didn't see a penny from the bar either. Not digging Harrow out at all....they were excellent hosts and remain firm friends of Hendon (both hate Wealdstone!)

Yesterday was a fair result. Hendon finished just behind Maidstone three seasons back and 10 points clear of 3rd place but lost to Margate in a very controversial final. At least yesterday there was no real controversy and Dulwich were rewarded for their fine league season.

The Newcastle game was an FA Cup 3rd Round replay in 1974. Curious that it's being played in daylight but it was during the miners' strike and there were power cuts. And it's being played at VIcarage Road in front of about 14,000. Great goals some of them and watch out for Gary Hand's (no pun intended....) save. In goal for Hendon was the great John Swannell, England Amateur keeper (and a very decent opening bat for Cove CC)

The Hendon v Whitby Amateur Cup Final looked a classic. David Hyde scored over 60 goals that season for Hendon and the other scorer is Jimmy Quail, who still gets down to Hendon a fair bit to watch. Look out for the amazing miss by Danny Lakey (one to forget!)

They did win the play offs in glorious sunshine. It won't be quite the same playing Hungerford Town at Tooting's ground in the freezing pouring rain on a November evening.

Don't be too sure of that.

My unique memory of Hendon is that as a lad, I loved Subbuteo (couldn't spell it mind!) and had a lot of teams in the collection. There was an oficial list of all the teams you could buy, and for a long time Charlton was very hit or miss, but for some reason they had one non league team on the list, Hendon Town. One of the owners must have been a fan.

In total Tony played in a total of 535 games for Dartford, scoring 159 goals. He has been involved as our manager in 880 games. A total of 1415 games – a remarkable record.

Paul Sawyer played in 324 games, scoring 22 goals. As coach and assistant manager, he oversaw 935 games. In total 1259 games – again, an incredible career with the club.

Steve Mosely played a total of 89 games at Watling Street, scoring 11 goals and has been involved as part of the management team for over 500 games since re-joining the club in 2007.
