I might have been a little too sensitive about the class issue. My club Adelaide Utd has just been taken over by the Dutch after we had terrible local owners who would buy in cheap overseas players and play juniors, sell them off if they wanted a pay rise. Surprisingly we got one title from it because at least they had a decent manager Guillermo Amor who played for Barcelona. so now we are owned by the Dutch, have a German manager but nobody cares because our club is in the best place its been for a while.

Hard to know exactly from such a long way away I just like to think that there will not be a disrespect of our football culture if there is an Aussie takeover of the club because there have been a few who don't seem overly keen on Australian players, Kewell, Australian National Team playing at The Valley.
Kewell is unproven as a manager and appointment would be based predominantly on the nepotism of his nationality. Been there before it failed.
Recruitment of players through an experimental philosophy. Been there before it failed.
Making the Valley a venue for another sports team/ club. Been there before and it failed. The valley is Charlton's home and no one else's and I'm sick of gimmicks at our club over recent years.
As for pulling the "racism" card have a word with yourself. Claims like that in this context really cheapen and undermine countering real racism and is pathetic in the context you have used it because some of us have aired concerns about a group of strangers coming to potentially shape the next decade of our club or possibly Fulham and valid scepticism is being raised in the context of recent ownerships.
Besides Australian is a nationality not a race so you may want to do some research before casually slinging round such accusations.
If a new owner came in appoints a manager on merit and squad on ability not nationality and respects the history and traditions of the club and its fan base then no one will give a damn whether they're Australian, Armenian or Martian.
Don't come on a Charlton forum and tell Charlton fans who have had a decade of incompetence, mismanagement and alienation in our ownership how to view potential takeovers and certainly don't level completely unfounded and inaccurate accusations of racism and class snobbery at those of us who raise concerns.

I think you’ve slightly missed the point here. I think the resistance to Kewell and importing Aussie players, general Aussie influence etc is that we want this takeover to be about best for *Charlton*, not another experiment with a ‘theme’ or gimmick.
When Dickchatelet bought us, he moved in a load of substandard Belgian (or Belgian-based) players, scouts, managers, coaches, CEO etc etc and the only thing they had in common was their ‘Belgianess’. The were there purely because the Belgian owner would only trust his Belgian staff and had absolutely no time for the actual fabric of the club, or anything that was in place already.. e.g. the record point-scoring title-winning manager that everyone loved.
Almost none of his imports were any good, we played shit football, the club infrastructure fell apart and we’ve been relegated. Meanwhile he sold off our best (English) youth products while we were left with crappy substandard imports.
So by all means, yes - we need to try innovative new methods. I’m open to that. But we’re all super-wary that this becomes another weird experiment that has a theme based purely on nationality of the owner and isn’t wholistic in its approach.
Agree with SE7toSG3. Aussie ownership is potentially a very good fit for us. They even sound a bit like us, I was brought up in Erith and Americans think I sound Australian.
Aside from nationality, what I like about JamesSeeds revelations of their plans is that they have one and it involves building the team over a number of years rather than just chucking money at it. I know what's a better fit. I get the concern about them not having enough money, but I'd rather someone was sensible with a plan than had loads of money but was an idiot. We've already tried that.
Anyway, whoever is causing the delays on this, whether it's the FL, Roland, or the Aussies themselves, pull your finger out.

Well I thought the overwhelming response to Australian owners was positive mingled with an air of caution based on supporters previous experience at Charlton not on the prospective buyers nationality.

Like quite a few on here I have worked in Australia, have Australian mates and family and, for want of a better word, banter aside, there is little difference between us.
Australian ownership has every chance of being an excellent fit for us but the frustration of years of poor ownership, splits between supporters and the club along with many a false dawn on this takeover thread all mean there will be muted celebration until its 100% confirmed.

As for racism in the UK of course it sadly exists everywhere - like when a copper in Perth, Oz stopped 8 of us in an old, non road worthy banger of a car and questioned us but then said he would not take it any further as, i quote him: ‘i’m only after the Asians’.
If a British owner took over an Aussie Rules Club (in Adelaide say) and said how he loved the sport, and wanted to make the club really successful while respecting its values, I'm sure he would be welcomed
If he came in with the ambition of creating the first British Aussie Rules club, and to use it as a base for young British players of the game to get an opportunity, putting in charge of the team an Englishman with little management experience, I'm the sure the reaction would be more cautious if not sceptical or hostile...
Fortunately that scenario now doesn't appear to be the case with Muir, but the arguments against the foreign ownership were nothing to do with racism or nationalism.

Normally, I wouldn't introduce myself to a new bunch of people by lobbing a hand grenade at them, but if that's how you go through life, I expect you're used to the reaction you've been getting by now.
