I've done an 18-hour coach and 24-hour train to Yangshuo! I recently took a 7-hour coach to Simao, and about halfway through the trip told my wife never again, in the future we fly.JessieAddick said:Haha, quite long indeed. also, and this is just personal preference, the new build stadiums of the turn of the century, all took a very similar plastic unauthentic design. The likes of M’boro are for me, soulless stadiums. It’s just my personal opinion, but I’d taken a Luton over a M’boro any day. Completely up to you, but if you really want to get a feel for a proper old fashioned stadium, and a decent away turnout, opt for Luton

You won’t get that at Spurs or any of the new builds. Might’ve just been the era that I grew up in, but the old stadiums for me are the best now. I’m sure when I go to Spurs I’ll be blown away, but that character in places like Luton is dying out. I think you have to cherish it before it goes. I would’ve loved to have got somewhere like Ayresome Park under my belt when I see old footage etcblackpool72 said:

Yeah Ross, just another bit of advice regarding giving the Boro game a miss.
It’s in December and Middlesbrough is one of the dampest and dull places on Earth. The wife’s family is from up there and I’ve been to the fixture more than I care to remember. It’s like the second circle of Dante’s hell up there constantly buffeted by cold winds that pierce any clothing, your skin and that scratch your very bones. More often than not it’ll be 0-0, I think I saw 4 in succession up there in the Prem years and then there was that bloody Quarter Final, but I digress.
The riverside is a half hour walk from the station, usually in sleet and when you get there the design of the stadium is such the wind makes it act like a giant plug hole where you can watch the swirling mass of every carrier bag ever dropped in Northern England, dance around the pitch.
On the plus side you could try Teessides local delicacy, A Parmo. A Breaded chicken cutlet topped with Béchamel and grated cheese and grilled, served in a pizza box with chips and eaten with your hands and fingers, outside leaning up against a wall, pissed. Beer is half the price what you’ll pay in London.
So go to Luton, old school ground and it’ll take a lot less of your precious time over here.

Having been to Boro before it wouldn’t be my primary choice of a first away game.
Its a bit of an industrial wasteland, think Springfield out of the Simpsons, once done never repeated ( it might put you off footie for good!).
I don’t know how flexible you are with dates, but if I had a choice of my first away game, it would probably be Brentford, Fulham or Notts Forest away.

At the Columbus Crew game today. Ran into an Arsenal supporter and chatted him up for a few minutes. Mentioned I support Charlton and he responded, "Fucking hell, I love Charlton!". Said he helped out with cleaning up the Valley when we returned in the 90's, nice bloke!!! Also mentioned that I'd be coming over for a game and said he fancies a Luton away day.
