I reckon the Aussies will be 3 down by the time they draw level with England.

If you mean me, I said he doesn't bowl enough, not that he shouldn't.

Need Archer to bowl against Smith and try to knock his head off from a length.
In next Test, of course, before some tw+t comes on and points it out.

Is there no Michael Holding his test? been replaced by Kumar? If so, its a big improvement.

I suspect, like our bowlers, they will all get a bash during the series .. anyone else heard that this will be Botham's last series as a pundit ?

I heard that Gower's contract hasn't been renewed, beyond this Summer.  So maybe Botham too.

I think Moeen looks much more dangerous round the wicket to Smith, than over.

tbh i think the only way to get Smith out is to bounce him out.
Oz can bowl 6 bouncers an over to Broad, so why not Archer...in the next Test.

How are we going to get Smith out another 9 times in the series?

Tell him there is a DIY sale on at B&Q Smethwick, sandpaper half price.  That'll shake him up!

Seriously, we need to work him out. Joffra might bounce him about a bit.

The bookies have England heavy odds on favourites here, but I think this match is still very much in the balance

Has the slower ball completely gone from the test match? Few bouncers and a slower straight one might get Smith.

Flying out from Lux tonight to get to Edgbaston for tomorrow-hoping for first wicket to be Smith.
Maybe another option is to try to starve him on leg side and just pack the off side.?

Bit late to all this. Just catching up with the selection debate fron yesterday.

Don't wanna back leuth  up too much but.

Bairstow is the one who is (should be) most at risk.

He insists on batting 7 and keeping. Frankly his record is nowhere near good enough to be demanding a specific role. Particularly in the last 2 years. If he is not willing to play as a specialist batsman or move up the order if its for the good of the team then he should in no way be guaranteed his spot. If he insists on that role then we have to really consider whether he is the best man for it. I genuinely think he isn't, Foakes as a specialist no 7 and keeper is in my view a better option. In current form even more so.

I say should be most at risk because he is part of the in crowd and best mates with the captain so no chance of getting dropped. Being Yorkshire helps with that too.

@cantersaddick Should Bairstow stay in the team if the captain wants him?

he's Root's personal mate and a fellow Yorkie .. so long as Bairstow can stagger and fumble about, he'll be in the team, so long of course, as Root is skipper

The question I am really posing is, shouldn't the captain get to choose his own preference as wicket keeper?
