Not to be, but a gallant effort in the second half.
Hopefully, with a bit of time off, we get some more bodies in and we go again with West Brom next week.
Over to you.

Getting happy with these narrow 0-1 defeats!10

I’m fine with this, kids did well, not embarrassed, returning players got some minutes.29
-
This game can only be seen as a positive in my opinion.
The kids all got a bit of experience against the likes of Barry, Brunt, Austin etc. Admittedly, some look a little out of their depth at the mo - Frodo being the main one, but also Stevenson. Henry is only 16, so will hopefully kick on well. Wiredu is a bit raw, but I thought Vennings and Davison did ok.
Also, Pearce, Matthews, Gallagher, Alfie and Lockyer have had a rest. *Edit: And Pratley and Purrington too.
Hemed, Williams and Green have all had minutes.
We haven’t been destroyed today and with our injuries, this is possibly the best year to go out at the third round.

I wanted two things from today.
1 no injuries
2 no replay.
So it's all good for me29 -
Oshilaja best player on the pitch for us
Hemed towards the end finally showed what he may bring for us whilst Williams gave us that attacking intent back rather than aimless balls up front
Again none of the kids overly impressed but harsh when you force them all to play together - Wiredu certainly needs to work on his ball control whilst Odoh let the game bypass him too much
Davison though continues to signs of having a future in the Football League, is dreadfully unlucky not to have scored for us yet
Solly (Im his biggest defender) had a weak game today with a few spells making it painful to watch - His Charlton career is far from done, he'll have much better games this season
We're far from gone yet... We move on to our next opponents5 -
Not too disappointed with the result given the circumstances and it was the right call to play the kids.
Would love a decent cup run one of these years however.3 -
So were there any on-field presentations of the new ownership team today, or are they waiting, maybe, for next week and a proper crowd?0
-
Good second half display but the highlight for me was seeing Jonny Williams back in action. I wonder how soon before Josh Cullen returns?1
-
Had a weird last 10 minutes where I wanted us to score but didnt want to go to a replay. Davison unlucky not to score after he really grew into the game.
Palace also lost to Derby at home so only Millwall has a shot of being the only other South London club to win the FA Cup this year2 - Sponsored links:

Andre Green is looking promising.3
-
More than happy with that result.0
-
A decent effort by the mainly u21 to keep the score down plus the reliable Dillion.
Scoring 0 again will be repeated in the League match against West Brom as both Taylor and Bonne are missing. Steve Gallen needs help from Matt Southall this week.
Being plucky doesn't get you points unfortunately.3 -

Seemingly no-one wanting us to equalise. Ahh, the romance of the cup will never die.
Dull first half. With the lack of pace and any crowd noise echoing around a 3/4 empty stadium it had the feel of a training match. All different in the second half. Team were a credit.0 -
Went into the cup with nothing. Exited the cup with nothing. What have you lost? Nothing.4

Gareth Barry made his professional debut before 7 of our starting 11 were born.
Puts things into perspective11 -

Didn’t want him the match, but glad to hear the young ‘uns didn’t disgrace themselves.A narrow defeat is probably the best result for us. Sad as it is, we just do not need the extra fixtures this season. A narrow defeat shouldn’t destroy any of the young players confidence so it’s good from that perspective too.
Hopefully the only way is up from here.2 - Sponsored links:

It’s a shame that after the takeover was finalised the new owners couldn’t be greeted by a bigger crowd, albeit a cup game.
onto the game Solly, was awful one point lost out to their player despite a ten metre start. Odoh nowhere near good enough.Thought Henry looked ok one great cross before he was taken off.Surprised to see Hemed and Williams on the bench and have to question why if they were fit enough today why they weren’t fit enough to be on the bench Thursday.1 -
So much for all the conspiracy theorists and the "divided fanbase" then...

I’m a big fan of the FA Cup and traditionally hate our approach or useless performances.
Not this time. It genuinely is an exceptional season and we just can’t enter competitively this year.
Lets move on, hopefully with no more injuries and a rest week gained29 -
How did Hemed, Williams and our new signing Green play? Did they do alright?0
-
Surprisingly enjoyable.Oshilaja was outstanding, particularly in the air. Naby also played well, like the Naby of last season, and they made a decent combination.Great to see the youngsters putting up a decent fight against a strong West Brom side. Davison in particular played well, and Stevenson grew into the game. Wiredu twice lost control of the ball when in good positions, and then heard Bowyer telling him “relax when you get through”.Williams coming back and not limping off was a big bonus.I guess no one wanted a replay, so another FA Cup has been and gone. Shame really, but understandable.
Edit post highlights: Unbelievable save by Phillips from Austin. He didn't just stick out his hand, he swatted the ball away.3 -

What was the formation and who played where? Sky Sports app put up a ridiculous 4-4-2 with Green and Solly as our centre backs.1

Liverpool have also pretty much fielded a team of kids and reserves, so we’re in good company!
Are clubs allowed to just choose to withdraw from the FA Cup if they wish? We can’t be that far off that happening more frequently if so.0
