Route 66, Rolling Stones 1st Album.
Was the first L.P. I purchased in 1964, still got it stored away in a cupboard with Jimi Hendrix 'Electric Ladyland' the album with the naked women on the cover.
I know its not the first track but 'Voodoo Chile' or 'Gypsy Eyes' take me back to them old days of hipster flared trousers and grandad shirts!!

Bush Sixteen Stone. Everything Zen.
I love the whole album - and for a band almost unknown in the UK it was one of the favourite albums of my youth and compares very well to anything Nirvana churned out in terms of 90s grunge rock1 -
Also Foo Fighters (self titled). This Is A Call.
whole album written and recorded in seven days by Dave Grohl in his basement a few months after Cobain died.
Released it under the ‘pseudonym’ of Foo Fighters to try and retain the anonymity. Still think it’s their best album4 -

He clearly didn’t notice the ‘Debut’ element, I pointed it out to him and he corrected it. No problem.
By the way, notice that it wasn’t, as you claimed, someone correcting someone else’s post. @Stig corrected his own post.
If only you’d cared to read what he actually wrote eh? 😉
Edit: Bah! Too late. Beaten by @Stig. (To be fair, it is his argument!) 😀1 -

I hate to make this 'your favourite bands' all over again, but really, VdGG either began with 'Afterwards' or 'Darkness 11/11' depending on what you regard as their true debut, and either one of those is absolutely tremendous.
Mogwai kicked matters off with 'Yes! I Am A Long Way From Home', which was a brilliant opening gambit that they hardly improved upon.
The Byrds began with their version of Mr Tambourine Man, which was pretty epic of an introduction
Earl Brutus! They introduced themselves to the world with Navyhead for heaven's sake!
OK finally one some of you might agree with: Suede's So Young. I mean it's hardly better than the rest of the debut album, but that's one of the best albums ever made we're talking about. And on a lesser Britpop tip, you've all mentioned Rock n Roll Star, but what about She's So High? Much better
The Beta Band charged out of the gate with Dry The Rain, and John Cusack immediately sold three copies of their debut set
Mercury Rev entered the fray with Chasing A Bee! That song is amazing!
It's weird how many Britpop-adjacent bands I'm finding for this particular exercise. My taste usually skews a bit weirder but I'm definitely being dragged to the CL mean hereUltrasound - Cross My Heart is another great one. Maybe in the Britpop era you had to start with a bang to get noticed?

In my view back in the day bands emerged with singles, that had an 'a' side and a 'b' side.
Singles cost 6d.8p (six shillings and eight pence) about 33p in todays money. LP's (long players) cost £1.13d 6p (one pound, 13 shillings and sixpence) about £1.70ish in todays money, and would have about ten tracks.
Bands and artists usually emerged with a hit single, maybe two sometimes with a strong 'b' side. If they were successful it would only be then that they would make an LP which would have their initial single 'hits' and other material.
Punters tended not to go for the LP unless it contained their hit singles on it, mainly due to cost. You would hope the 'unheard/unknown' tracks would be good and not fillers or padding.
So first tracks on first albums for bands such as the Beatles, the Stones, the Who and others served a different function from first tracks on Album-based bands like King Crimson or Led Zeppelin. For some the album would come first and a track would be chosen to put out as a single.
Therefore the David Bowie introduction to the world was really 'The Laughing Gnome' single, or 'Space Oddity' (superb bit of work btw), or the Stones would have been the Buddy Holly cover 'Not Fade Away'.
I conclude from the above ramble that this thread should really not include artists who emerged via single tracks first, but artists who started with a Long Playing Record.
P.S. EP's were an addition to the music culture of the time.0
