Barnsley threatening EFL ahead of Disciplinary action for Wednesday, Derby & Birmingham

So you have a penalty that everybody understands. You go into administration and it is a 12 point penalty. And a club announces it has gone into administration, they haven't pretended they haven't and there is an appeal? With respect, this is ridiculous.13

Wigan's Administrators are clutching at straws citing force majeure as the basis of their appeal. This undermined by the fact that the club changed hands during lockdown plus the EFL were satisfied with source and sustainability of funds. Can't blame them for trying though, we would be hoping ours would do the same in their position wouldn't we?0

As you say you can't blame the administrators for trying, but as far as i'm aware and from everything they've said, most people inside Wigan including Paul Cook, accept it won't be overturned.RedChaser said:Wigan's Administrators are clutching at straws citing force majeure as the basis of their appeal. Yes and Paul Cook's approach has been spot on because he motivated his team to fight for every point on the pitch so that any penalty points deduction would be negated and could be one game away from achieving that.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

I wonder if the EFL are waiting to see if we are relegated or survive on the basis of Wigan getting the points taken. Then they would hit us with points deduction say 6 to save Wigan0

Why would we be deducted points?robroy said:I wonder if the EFL are waiting to see if we are relegated or survive on the basis of Wigan getting the points taken. Then they would hit us with points deduction say 6 to save Wigan6 -
A points deduction for what exactly?robroy said:I wonder if the EFL are waiting to see if we are relegated or survive on the basis of Wigan getting the points taken. Then they would hit us with points deduction say 6 to save Wigan
As far as I know, we’ve never been threatened with a points deduction and our punishment of a transfer embargo has been put in place.
This thread has got all very dramatic.5 -
as far as I'm aware we aren't in admin and have paid the wages each month, haven't sold our ground to ourselves?, on what grounds would we be deducted points3

Can we name who owns us and have they given the EFL what they require in the last 7 months1

The Courts have determined who owns us & because we havent proved source of funds we've been punished already by an embargo. We haven't (as far as I'm aware) transgressed any of the EFL's rules so I dont think there is anything more they can do. Its not our fault the EFL are useless in respect of controlling ownership issues.oohaahmortimer said:Can we name who owns us and have they given the EFL what they require in the last 7 months3 -
No, we can’t. (Combining another post In to one now) But that doesnt mean the punishment should be points deduction. We are under a transfer embargo which is A suitable punishment at this stageoohaahmortimer said:Can we name who owns us and have they given the EFL what they require in the last 7 months0 -
I wonder if the EFL really would have preferred the championship to finish like leagues 1 and 2 on points per game.
Then they could have punished Wednesday in their own good time.
But the club's didn't vote for it.1 -
They'd probably have preferred it if Sheff Weds hadn't been so awful in recent months (17 points in their last 22 games). I've no doubt if they had 10 more points they'd have been given a 12 point deduction and it would've all been wrapped up by now.Henry Irving said:I wonder if the EFL really would have preferred the championship to finish like leagues 1 and 2 on points per game.

Now it's a complete shit show where any fair deduction (12 points or more) relegates them.3 -
Worryingly to the point - the EFL themselves have said that we are “under investigation” but so far no leak has come out to even hint at the possible penalties*.oohaahmortimer said:Can we name who owns us and have they given the EFL what they require in the last 7 months
I don’t think my nerves could take checking this and the Bonkers Shenanigans thread till the 4th August or whenever any final appeal cut-off applies.* other than the transfer embargo which we found out about after the window when the super duper transfer phone didn’t work. Unlike the 12 points for admin all the other penalties in the EFL Rules seem a bit woolly and subject to discretion / interpretation.0 -
I thought we were under investigation due to the twitter/Instagram public spat between Southall and Nemer?

Exactly, the EFL could use us as an example to warn other shithouse owners to not take the piss cos it will punish the club and devalue your “asset”RichmondSE10Exile said:

With regard to us, I think it will be next season when the shit hits the fan. I don’t think anything will happen to us this season, but unless the ownership issues are resolved, I very much see us facing the prospect of being booted out the league0

Maybe the threat of that wouldn't be a bad thing. It may focus the minds of whoever is paying the Bill's at the moment. The club may have been sold for £1 but someone has been putting a few quid in for wages etc. If they think we are likely to be chucked out of the league and lose the chance of recouping their outlay that may assist in getting ownership issues addressedcabbles said:With regard to us, I think it will be next season when the shit hits the fan. I agree. Our potential punishment is worse than a points deduction. It has to be sorted out pretty quickly now.0

I need to stay off Twitter. If you search Charlton points there are over 240 tweets discussing possible pointsValleyGary said:

We are under serious sanctions at the moment but have not broken any rules. Those sanctions are enough to force the issues and for once, the EFL doing nothing is what would be the best thing for them to do, but they should make the position public. If the new consortium can’t pass the owner tests they cannot buy the club. Fine. At least B&V will know who they are trying to purchase the club from.
If they do pass the tests. Fine. Publish the plans to take us forward and give Bows a decent budget or sell us on again.
Just hurry up and get on with it FFS.6 -

The EFL are probably hoping we are the 3rd team relegated as not in a position to challenge anything with everything going on. How can the Wigan deduction not be applied this season and why put off the Wendies when they have had all season to do it? So this is basically just because of EFL incompetence and nothing else?

EFL confirmed last night, but it is still subject to appeal.
Sheff Weds, have committed a different breach, so who knows when that will be applied if found guilty0
