I loved the guy so much but have nothing but hatred for him now.
He walked out on us plan and simple
I dont get anyone who says Solly is not the same as Taylor because he may not have played.
He may not have done
But with 2 games a week he may have been a useful player to use to give Matthews a rest or even as Left back cover when we needed it.
I also paid for Sollys testimonial and his Q&A and feel like by not honoring his contract he has betrayed us all.
We have ben relegated and as much as I doubt it will I hope it plays on both Solly and Taylors minds.4 -
Taylor was the bigger loss on the pitch, but I feel more let down by Solly. Club captain, senior pro and surely someone who should have some feelings towards the club.
Not playing 9 games because you're worried about injury concerns is hardly a great calling card for your next club either.2 -

A terrible example from a club captain - and in his testimonial year too. Shameful.14

Grant got abuse and he was sold to a premier league club.
Solly chose to walk out on us. No way he won't get abuse.
If there was a particularly valid reason for him not playing on then as club captain and a long serving player, at the very least he should've made a statement explaining why.
Fuck him.6 -

Imagine the positive response he would have got from the fans and wider football world - "He's likely to be released in the summer, but Charlton legend Chris Solly will be 100% behind his teammates as they fight for survival, on and off the pitch"4 -
All the old ex-players appear to like going back to The Valley to see games, attend supporters and other functions etc. I just don’t see how Solly could ever have the nerve to do any of that. I think it unlikely he would have started many of the last 9 games, but he should have made himself available and if not until the end of the season then at least through to end June. I suspect he will live to regret his decision.2

No idea how the dynamic of the squad worked but the Talisman in Taylor and the club captain in Solly both walking out on the rest of them must have hurt morale9

I'm sure like many, i've met him, and he seems a really honest, down to earth guy.
I can't help but think (hope?) there was more to this, as otherwise it just appears to be a really bad decision.14 - Sponsored links:

No explanation from him so fans are fully entitled to give him abuse if we ever play against him. My personal view, fuck him!3

I tried to to speak to him when we met him at the hotel with my 5 and 3 year old...at Boro away game....ignorant...or just thick....either way should have had more respect for Charlton fans who made a long journey. Darren Pratley was an absolute gentleman and happy to chat with my lads.1

No comparison. Solly was supposedly Charlton through-and-through and came through the youth ranks to be a very respected club captain with a few injury issues. Owed some sort of explanation to us supporters and we'd have respected him. Very disappointing.
Lyle came here as a step up and dropped us once a bigger payday might have been in jeapordy. Helped us gain promotion in 1 season. Didn't need us anymore. No explanation. No respect. No care.2 -
Baggy.4

In terms of ethics, he really is no better than John Terry.0
-
Solly still hasn't broken his vow of silence, perhaps he's gone to live in a monastery0

Since he broke into the First Team I've often found Solly to a similar character, never really done any interviews as its not where he's comfortable - On the pitch, whether its at the Valley or Sparrows Lane and I bet he's a completely different person
I seem to remember Louis Mendez saying that Solly was never really that comfortable doing interviews etc.3 -
Some proper joke comments here, literally some of our fans are so damn fickle, we know nothing and less so than Taylor which has been more publicly. Solly has been a great servant to the club if i was to guess it was our choice or we couldn't pay his wages when he wasnt in Bowyers plans. Talk about shit on all your best players, Parker it happened (Scotty) for getting his dream move, although it did mess us up, Taylor has decided not to risk his big chance (wherever that will be) and Solly noone really knows until he turns up somewhere or there is an official statement.
Until we know the facts how can you all crucify someone so quickly, yes we got relegated probably more significant down to LT not playing but still who knows its done now, at the time it royally pissed me off but sometimes look at the bigger picture. I wont boo either player if they ever return (at least for now lol)7 -

never welcome back. Didn’t that Olly groome fella send some defensive post about Chris’ side of the story. Well where is it then!2

Chris was a guest at Bromley Addicks not long before the virus arrived. He was in no way the shy kid who won the POTY when he was a teenager. He talked well and with confidence and was an excellent guest.6
