When he came off the bench at Wembley I think he won 5 or 6 free kicks and think 2 of those fouls got Sunderland players booked as well.
He didn't score or assist at Wembley but I'm sure without Williams we probably would have gone into extra time and who knows what the outcome would have been.
Agreed some goals are needed to add to his game but if you can't see beyond that or his injuries I suggest you watch the play off final again from the moment Williams comes off the bench.8 -

Pratley did a good job at containing them for an hour, Williams came on and we attacked. He helped keep possession and drew a lot of fails which stopped them getting on the ball and getting mcgeady involved who was their star man.hoof_it_up_to_benty said:

i agree that Williams didn’t win us the play off final on his own but he certainly shifted momentum in our favour.
williams is a very good championship player and a class league 1 player. Williams being a charlton player improves our squad and makes us better.2 -
It's a pretty spurious argument to say we win more matches when he plays based on last season and the injuries we had. He played in a number of early season games when surrounded by a strong lineup and missed a lot of the games when we could barely muster a team. His stats obviously benefit from this.JamesSeed said:

I've watched him play numerous times and I don't find him terribly effective even though on the surface he's exciting because of his pace. I do expect an attacking midfielder at this level to score the odd goal and have a better end product.
People keep going on about his cameo at Wembley as if that is all that matters.
I've found him a bit of a disappointment up to now and hope he is more effective next season.

Pratley's are all from corners or from inside the 6 yard box.I absolutely welcome JW signing up for another season but it would be nice to also have a midfielder who could score from outside the box for once. Like a Holmes or Kinsella. So much focus on stats and goals.
The question really is does Williams make us a better team and therefore more likely to win games? Clearly that’s a yes.
Can we sign better, or similar but with a better fitness record/more goals? Not at moment.
In a stronger side he’d be a threat higher up the pitch and with goalscorers up front and elsewhere in midfield he’d have players he can create for and who would take their chances.2 -
