When have I heard this before?0 -
We could do with signing 2 midfielders that can score goals.0

What’s not to like. Didn’t think we’d be holding onto or getting players of his quality given our situation. Please stay fit Jonny.2

I must be watching a different JW to a lot of our fans.1

Would like to see him wearing boots giving decent ankle protection and better shin pads.

I agree with @ShootersHillGuru Williams changed the game, the ball was in Sunderland’s half for the last 30 minutes2

He makes Zaha seem like a stand up solid footballer - diving cheating palace c***oh he plays for us now , top player draws a lot of fouls.1

He has fitness/injury issues, doesn't score enough goals and his end product needs improving. He does draw a lot of fouls but sometimes he'd do better to stay on his feet.
I was excited when we signed him but the more I've watched him I've not been over impressed.
I hope he does well in L1 and keeps fit.0 -

Really happy with this. Oztumer will be more effective in L1 which means Jonny can be rotated more5

Williams is exciting to watch because he runs with the ball which is why everyone is so desperate to big him up. He doesn't score(0 in 42), is injury prone and his end product needs to improve. His stats are not great for an attacking midfielder at this level.

When he came off the bench at Wembley I think he won 5 or 6 free kicks and think 2 of those fouls got Sunderland players booked as well.
He didn't score or assist at Wembley but I'm sure without Williams we probably would have gone into extra time and who knows what the outcome would have been.
Agreed some goals are needed to add to his game but if you can't see beyond that or his injuries I suggest you watch the play off final again from the moment Williams comes off the bench.8 -

Why would you throw that away because he doesn’t score goals? He wasn’t bought to score goals.3 -

i agree that Williams didn’t win us the play off final on his own but he certainly shifted momentum in our favour.
williams is a very good championship player and a class league 1 player. Williams being a charlton player improves our squad and makes us better.2 -

I've watched him play numerous times and I don't find him terribly effective even though on the surface he's exciting because of his pace. I do expect an attacking midfielder at this level to score the odd goal and have a better end product.
People keep going on about his cameo at Wembley as if that is all that matters.
I've found him a bit of a disappointment up to now and hope he is more effective next season.

Put JFC and Williams together and you’ve got one player, if they play more than half a season each they’ll have done well.1

thenewbie said:Williams doesn't score many but JFC gets a few and Pratley pops up with some important ones now and then so there's still goals from midfield. If Johnny could add goals to his game, great. If not, so be it.0

He was our top assist maker last season. Is that not end product?1 -

Bet he's over the moon he took the option of extending🤔1

So much focus on stats and goals.
The question really is does Williams make us a better team and therefore more likely to win games? Clearly that’s a yes.
Can we sign better, or similar but with a better fitness record/more goals? Not at moment.
In a stronger side he’d be a threat higher up the pitch and with goalscorers up front and elsewhere in midfield he’d have players he can create for and who would take their chances.2 -
