So the whole country has to wear a mask to prevent a grand total of 3 people catching this virus?
    What???

    Leave off.
Even if there was a 0.00001% chance masks help we should of been wearing them in March.

So if we had worn masks since March and perhaps prevented the death of one person it wouldnt of been worth it?

  • Slightly off topic but does anyone have a view on masks with ventilator holes
Like these cycle masks we bought what seems like an age ago when no other masks were available due demand.

My basic view is that these must be worse for protecting others than a non valve mask because they let you exhale moisture?
    I have shagged worse
  • Just been in Zante for the week (beautiful place) and while the wearing of masks became compulsory everywhere even on the beach it was very widely ignored. CL rating of 20%.
What was disturbing was in the cheap bars people were handshaking and hugging staff and each other. Classic spreading but this was older people like mid 40’s to mid 50’s in large groups and at 2pm as the booze bus started running.

    Strawman argument.
  • They all have health problems, so they say
  • Two people on my train this morning wearing masks that might as well not have bothered, one was wearing it on his chin and the only covering her mouth and not her nose

  • The thing is, we don't know exactly how effective masks are. It is a reason in itself to wear them as there is no data to suggest wearing them increases the risk of catching Covid. In the absence of risk and with the possibility of benefit, it should be a no brainer.

Seatbelts don't come down to personal choice, do you refuse to wear one of those?
I personally don't wear one as I think it's unconsciously leads to more unsafe driving.
I am sorry i have skipped a couple of pages to respond, but wtf? you dont wear a seatbelt as it leads to unsafe driving thats a new one. God forbid another wreckless driver doesn't smash into you! Sorry jacob quoted your post and not Jimmy @jimmymelrose

Exactly my thought process with the whole thing. If it might help stop the spread then that's good enough for me, we all need to be doing our bit.

In the long term, I really really don't think wearing masks is a good idea!

It could screw immunity amongst the population and potentially leave us vulnerable to very minor diseases.
  • I can see that, but in the short term and where we find ourselves now, they make sense.

    Yes.
    We will never know

WHO recently said they envisage the pandemic lasting for about 2 years, which is a relatively short time so your argument does not carry any weight.

Hopefully this winter we will see fewer colds, coughs and other viruses, because most people are far more mindful of passing any germs they may have onto others.
  • its an old saying in times of worry and crisis

    people revert to type

kind and decent people become even more kind and decent

    and the

selfish and cnutish become even more selfish and cnutish
    And even more haters ...

Agreed, I realised this a couple of months ago.
  • First time in public transport today since lockdown began.

SE trains from Westcombe Park to Cannon Street, 10 people on carriage one young girl and her mum not wearing masks. Was going to ask why but they left at London Bridge before I motivated myself enough to get into an argument.

on the tube must have seen 600-800 people, there no masks, four occasionally masks on mouth and not in nose, all getting daggers from everyone else.

People generally left a seat between groups, train not that busy though.

Wasn’t expecting this but all non mask wearers were BAME.

I have also seen an increased of people who dont give a shit, i am medically exempt due to 'asthma' but if i can wear a mask i dont think many have a proper excuse.  Yes my Asthma is not a mute point i use inhalers daily and have bad days still, something i am used to.

People who dont wear it when they are advised to eg. shops/garages, confined spaces are selfish pricks

Should have said he's got a dodgy nose.

My sympathy for him is 0.
  • I agree. Zero sympathy and why that other guy was protesting about the police action beggars belief. As mentioned further up the thread, I have been using Merseyrail twice a day for the last two weeks and the face mask compliance has been excellent. Of the few who aren’t there are certainly some who seem to be daring other passengers to confront them.
  • If you read the article, he was suspected of coughing in the faces of two people on the train (who had presumably asked him why he wasn't wearing a mask), so the police didn't just roll up and pick him out at random, they were looking for a suspect who had committed what is common assault.

p.s. how truly horrible is that website? IT was loading adverts, popups and messages for 2 minutes, and after all that the video controls scroll up over the Skip Ad button making it inaccessible

Haven't seen a single white person not wearing a mask.
  • Plenty of white chavy types not wearing masks around my neck of the woods. BTW that video looks like a compensation set up to me.
