And whilst I’m here, James Bond should never be anything but a white actor, whole back story would be ruined otherwise, Idris Elba is a fantastic actor, and taken in isolation would suit it, but, there is a whole lot more to consider than just acting, the whole (as mentioned) back story of a white Scottish father and white Swiss mother, plus the Fleming original book illustrations, based on a white character.

Using the same logic, shaft and othello could be played by white actors, equally ridiculous and wrong in my view.

Maybe it’s just me but I find him exactly the same in every role. Mumbling and at times incoherent 🤷‍♀️

I think with the modern Bond, you have to play it straight. You don't need the greatest acting. Just look like you believe what is going on. Craig was a brilliant Bond IMO. I hate to say it, but probably the best.

Would have welcomed idris as Bond but that boat has now sailed. Of the current batch of hopefuls for me it would be Hardy or Norton with no preference. Both fine actors and fit the Bond image. Agree with Muttley that the best Bond has been Daniel Craig and I remember seeing the Connery films “at the pictures” 

Not a fan of Hardy - doesn't suit Bond for me.

Until Craig started, I had never been a fan of Bond films. 

Skyfall changed it for me, and enjoyed Spectre too.  

Amazing how opinions differ.

I've been a huge Bond fan and my love for it has gone massively downhill since Craig has been involved. The worst Bond for me and aside from CR his films (not his fault) just don't feel like Bond films to me. 

Yeah I love reading or hearing how different people have vastly different opinions of the same thing. For me the best thing to happen to James Bond films was not better special effects or bigger sets to blow up it was the Bourne films

The Bond movies have been reacting to other franchises for a long time. For instance, Moonraker came along two years after Star Wars, and True Lies was a big deal a year before Goldeneye came out. 

Yeah agree, essentially they only have so much source material to go on and that is fairly telegraphic so the quirks and innovation come from following others. 

One thing you can't not appreciate with any Bond film is how good they look. The sets are gorgeous they always have a funky scene or 7 and its something I appreciate in a big blockbuster, or any film come to that

I know many won't agree, but I thought Spectre was the peak. I say the peak as I can't imagine they can beat that. Great opening leading into the best ever Bond song (fantastic competition) and action and suspense all the way, leading to a great ending. 

I was hooked as that helicopter scene merged into the opening credits. Craig definitely made a good claim for being the best Bond when I wasn't sure initially. Good luck to Hardy.

I once went to a relative's pre wedding do in a remote place on Majorca. 

Finally arrived at the destination which was at the end of a very long narrow lane. I jumped out of the cab to open the gate so that the cab driver could turn round and disappear back from where he came.  Before I had a chance to close the gate another cab arrived, the passenger window wound down, but instead of the cheery 'thankyou' that I was expecting, an American voice said, 'When I get a cab, I get it right to the front door', and off they went. 

Turns out this geezer is Michael Wilson the half brother of Barbara Broccoli.  Later at the do, I was chatting to my son over a glass of something when he walked past.  I said, 'Ah Michael you had me worried there, thought I might have left myself a bit of a walk'.  He looked at me and said the self same thing, 'When I get a cab, I get it right to the front door'.  With that he walked on.  I looked at my son and said, 'Well he's a right barrel of 'kin laughs ain't he'. I then witnessed my son's face break up - not in a good way - more like a Tom and Jerry cartoon.  I said, 'He's right behind me isn't he?'  My son sort of nodded in a barely conceivable way and walked off leaving me to seek out another victim.

My relative is still employed by the organisation, but I still await my invitation to another meet up some 17 years later.   

         

They’ll have delayed it for a year out of greed and when they want to release it there will be no cinemas left, ah well....straight to britbox?

I watched Layer Cake again last night (what a cracking film).
Both Craig & Hardy in it & the new Q.
Couldn't stop laughing at the thought of Hardy being the new Bond. Unless he camps him up? He’d make a great camp Bond.
Craig really bulked up for Bond didn’t he? But I still find him so one dimensional.

I was surprised at reading that but I suppose once a film is digitally 'out there' it won't take long before it ends up on a free streaming service which makes studios exactly fuck all 

Something I did for a while with my wife was Friday night movies, I have never found a streaming service that is either not a hassle to use or has good enough quality to justify sticking with one, so we would buy a film on Amazon, relatively new release and watch that. Some are cheap the biggies tend to be around the 10 mark as buy and keep. Cheaper than going to the pictures but also fair and OK value to watch on a decent TV and soundsystem.

I've found that as much as i live the cinema its something that makes me too angry too often to go regularly. People on phones, people talking, people eating generally people and whilst I have found no better way to watch a film than as soon as the cinema opens, mid week on my own, its impractical with having a day job.

So even if its say just an average family say, Mum, Dad and 2 kids thats what about say £40 for tickets, watch it at home for £20 and thats half the revenue gone already, add to that if you have a neighbour and there wife over to watch it as well(socially distanced of course) but thats another £30 the cinema would lose that would count towards the £20 you paid.

Our neighbour's telly is so fucking big we watch it from over the road - social distancing at it's finest!
