The Bond movies have never really maintained a continuity, at least not consistently. The Craig movies aimed to change that and did to some extent. The plan with Skyfall was for Connery to turn up and reveal that the name ‘Bond’ was inherited by different agents, thus tying the movies together. But he refused and the plan was abandoned (and the role was rewritten for the Albert Finney character).
It’s not a multiverse, which has allowed the likes of Sony to make lots more money, more of a reboot each time they change actor. The thing is, by making the Craig movies a continuation the producers have painted themselves into a corner. The next movie has to be very different stylistically. Like a flat out comedy, a reboot with a teenager or a twist like that.
Looking forward to "James Bond: Into the Bond-verse", where all of the different Bond actors team up as a squad of Bonds to take on all of the Bond villains who have also teamed up.
No Bondverse - Daniel Craig’s Bond covered characters previously introduced in the Connery/Moore era ie Blofeld with a twist in the way the character played out. It was always a short run contained set of movies with a story arc from Casino Royale through to No Time to Die. The character played by Bond was not on a linear path as the previous Bonds. Rather than think of it as a multiverse, just believe that the next set of movies happened before Casino Royale.
I would now expect the new Bond to be taking on re-imagined You Only Live Twice type movies, perhaps one or two new stories if they can squeeze any last drops out of Fleming’s short stories and as long as they skip Moonraker I will be happy.

eh?!
Lol, all I am saying is that it is not a multiverse situation, like in Marvel or DC.
He quit acting after having a horrendous experience on League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Nobody could convince him to act again. I think he did a voice job for a low budget animation or something but that was it. From what I remember he was vaguely open to Skyfall but was 85 and couldn’t physically do what was written so that was that.
This might be common knowledge but what happened on LoEG?
That's a long story and one I can't really remember. I know that Connery and the director Stephen Norrington did not get along at all and the film, which had a nightmare shoot and bombed at the box office, effectively ended both careers. Norrington (who was an up and coming Hollywood director having made Blade as well) retired from filmmaking - LoEG was his last credit. Real shame.
Who is chosen to replace Craig will very much depend on how they are going to proceed the story. For me with Bond dead the only logical route forward is to reboot completely. Start with a young JB recruited into MI6 straight from the Royal Navy. That would rule out all the names being suggested. If it’s just a continuation of JB as was then why kill him off ? Just remorph as in previous change of actors.

My view exactly. Stick a younger actor in there, maybe Tom Holland.
I agree that if they are to make a 6 movie run or whatever then they have to go really young and start from well before even the Craig movies started.
Also, I wouldn't be surprised if they went for a period movie - 60s Bond. Or perhaps look at what Warners/ DC are doing with Batman where different versions exist at the same time and get in different styles of director to take it on.
I think it's going to have it's work cut out to match the Daniel Craig series and unless it really goes for something different it will suffer in comparison. They did so well with the Casino Royale reboot and Skyfall is one of the best Bond films ever IMO.

Thought that was why Schofield left This Morning?
Norman Wisdom was my Mums choice.
They could 2 for the price of 1...Ant and Dec!
