Girlfriend and I are currently watching the Bond films from start to finish. I actually hadn't seen any of the Connery movies but I can see why people like him so much.

    Goldfinger v good.

Is this a spoiler thread? Don't see much the future for Bond without some dramatic plot twist that will be totally unbelievable for the first instalment and then taken as read after then.

lots of bond fans I know not up for such a reboot given where we are at with the character. What's done is done and it has never been just a 007 number franchise.

I think it's going to have it's work cut out to match the Daniel Craig series and unless it really goes for something different it will suffer in comparison. They did so well with the Casino Royale reboot and Skyfall is one of the best Bond films ever IMO.
I will say this until the day I die, or I get banned from CL, but Skyfall is an utterly vapid, stupid movie that completely undermined Casino Royale, and only happened because the Broccolis got cold feet after QoS got a kicking.
Never been much of a Bond fan but really enjoyed Skyfall
It's perfectly enjoyable, I don't deny that. People say 'Bond is silly, don't overthink it' but by going back to that siliness they undermined everything Casino Royale achieved. They bottled it. So many stupid things in that movie that don't make a lick of sense, but thanks to Roger Deakins it looks so good it seems classy anyway.

Just to be clear - they are not going to continue from No Time To Die. It is going to be a reboot, just as Casino Royale was after Die Another Day.

IMHO Thunderball is good, Dr No and Russia with Love ok, some of others ok, some are nothing like the films and very dated and borderline racist. In the books Bond is a git.

Oh ok. So not a glowing report.  Shame as I love the films.

IMHO, the character should have been shelved once Connery quit.
Your opinion is fine to have, but is wrong.

    Daniel Craig was fantastic.

Craig in my opinion saved the whole Bond thing.

Finally got round to watching No Time to Die last night and thought it was great, and a fitting end to the Daniel Craig series. For me the third best in the series after Casino Royale and Skyfall.

It seems there’s some disagreement about how good or bad Skyfall was, but is it fair to say that most agree Quantum of Bollocks was a pile of shit?
  • Still no real hint of the next Bond though. Surely it won’t be too long now before we find out ?
  • Saw the other day that apparently Christopher Nolan is pitching the next Bond film in a period setting, likely the Cold War I'm guessing.

Definitely think it's an interesting idea.

Read one if the Horowitz non-film Bond novels, Forever and a Day.

It was decent - nothing earth shattering but a decent little holiday read.

I’ve got Trigger Mortis on my bedside table still to read
  • A lot of names on this list but none of them really jump out to me.

I think some of those names must be a piss take.

Always thought Sam Claflin would be good - first time I've actually seen his name mentioned.

  • Pretty sure the strong rumours previously were that Aaron Taylor Johnson had pretty much got the role

James Norton would in my opinion make a good Bond.

That would be great - think things had started going a little bit stale, even if the last one was a fitting way for DC to bow out.
  • Implies 2027 earliest for the next film. Probably 2028.

He was brilliant in Bullet Train, but I don't really see him as Bond, especially when Bond died in the last film.
  • Next big question is how they pick up the story. Re-boot or something else ?

Surely has to be a complete re-boot following how No Time to Die finished?

I'd be interested in seeing what he can do with the role. Thing is, no matter what we think of the new Bond casting, we won't have a clue what it really means until we see the vision of whoever is leading it. I think the Broccoli's have a bigger challenge finding a director/ producer with a vision more than they do finding a new actor.
