    I didn’t know Steve at all but he came along to the first meeting in the back room of the Bugle when CARD was first formed. He came along to listen and give his opinion. I could’ve sat and listened to him speak all night. He had a voice like velvet... a lovely speaking voice. And seemed like a lovely man. 

    My sincere condolences to his family. What a terrible shock and all so sudden. Rest in eternal peace Steve.

    No way. That’s proper shit news. We’ve lost so many incredible Charlton people this year.

    He was more than a fan, always giving, always willing to push back. Intelligent and smart. God, what an awful year this has been. And what a time to move upstairs. I hope at least he has a directors box comfy seat to watch the next chapter of the club he loved. 

    RIP Steve and my condolences and thoughts are with his family and friends.

    I am saddened to learn of this news. 
    I met Steve in 1990 when we were candidates for the Valley Party. More recently, he and I were CAST committee members, as was his daughter, Alex. We spent many hours discussing proposals and formulating plans which, we hoped, would help Charlton supporters during the turbulent, tedious period of Duchatelet's ownership of CAFC. I offer my condolences to Alex and to her family.

    Never met Steve but his name was seen in many places and clearly a huge loss to the Charlton family.  Condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.

    Known Steve for a long time but hadn't hadn't seen him for a while - obviously. Had no idea he was ill. This is tragic news. RIP Steve. No doubt 2020 has indeed been a terrible year for everyone.

    Met Steve during the  Valley Party campaign and then sat for years in the East Stand Block G with him - a lovely man, such a Gentleman. RIP Steve.

    When I stepped down from the Trust board, it was in the safe knowledge that Steve Clarke as well as Heather and Rich Pemberton were on board, to take it forward. I kept on the trust board for a few months after Barnie  Razzell left, and remained designing the trust news. Steve and I always had a good sense of how the club was in it's absurd ownership issues with RD and KM, which we used to laugh at, and we often concluded it with  the comment 'only at Charlton' when we met .His charm, and love of the club was obvious to anyone he met, My deepest condolences to his family.
    Frankly I am stunned by this news.

    I’ve just read the trust’s statement. Terrible loss to bear. Thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues . RIP Steve.

    I only knew Steve through the Valley Party and he was simply such a genuine person that you had to like him.
    A terribly sad loss on what would have been a happy weekend.
    Sincere condolences to his family and friends.
    Steve, you will always be remembered by those who love our great club.

    I didnt know Steve personally but I knew what he did and was involved in. Very sad to hear and my sympathy is with Steves friends and family

    Steve was a close personal friend to me and my family. This news was all the more shocking for its suddenness. His wife and his three kids will feel his loss more than any other. Steve is a true Charlton hero, and I’m so glad that he learned the news of the takeover in his final hours. Hopefully it gave him the smallest comfort. Goodnight Steve, and God bless. We will remember you always, our friend.

    That is truly shocking and deeply sad news. Someone who put an enormous amount of work in on behalf of the club and its supporters over so many years. RIP Steve

    Didnt know him personally but very much a voice from our Valley over the last 30 years. Rip and condolences to his family.

    I knew Steve for 30 years from the Valley Party days onwards and while we didn’t always agree and or even agree to disagree, he was always thoroughly decent, committed to Charlton and generous with his time and support. He and his family have been part of our extended group in the east stand since 1994. It is crushing that we have lost both Steve and Craig Norris, with whom he was great friends, in the space of a few years and in similar circumstances.

    Like Weegie, I got to know Steve through the CAST board - he had a calm, assured and unruffled manner - something vitally important when dealing with the awful shenanigans going on in the ownership of this club over the last number of years.

    I don’t think Steve appreciated my abuse of the various linesmen at Charlton games. I’m really struggling to comprehend this loss.
