I wouldn’t be anti Adkins. My guess is that he would be offered something like a three year deal with the aim that we will be in the top echelons of the Championship at that point.Sandgaard will not necessarily see him as the person to take us in the second half of his long term plan but considers him someone who can get the first half done.5

I worry that people are going to immediately turn on Adkins just because he isn't a sentimental choice.
The amount of people that are going to jump on every loss pretending Jackson would've won every game is going to be so annoying.22 -

Stick the two managerial CVs up side by side. On what planet is Jackson seen as the smart choice?
All the candidates being mentioned are proven, JJ isn't.0 -

A. Done 2x with Scunthorpe. L1-Prem with Southampton
B. Arguably done, someone said about their Saints suplorting mate a but earlier.
C. Had 10 academy players in the 1st team regularly playing for Reading. Brought through Lallana.
He also apparently broke the club clean sheet record with Southampton...

Hate the "But you need experience" line... Absolute bullshit as have had it thrown my way a few times too
But when you have an owner who is willing to financially back the club and specifically mentions his desire to be playing European football in x amount of years, then you are likely to not to want to employ anyone who is unproven.
Plenty of other clubs in a positions different to us would be more than happy to give Jacko his first gig.0 -
wasn't immediately thrilled about Adkins but the more i think about it, the more he could be a good choice - 3 promotions out of league 1 fits what i was suggesting before i got caught up with the thought of curbs coming back to team up with jacko - glad TS is listening to me - it was my and my sons 50th and 18th birthday on Monday - i thought it was a coincidence bowyer was sacked that day but now he's following my advice on the new manager as well - thanks TS - tbh, whether you go with curbs and jacko or adkins, i'm fine with it, i'll leave it up to you1

You look at Paul Lambert, who did the "2 seasons running" promotion a year before Adkins, but did nothing at Ipswich
The season Adkins achieved promotion to the PL, Brian McDermott's Reading actually won the title, but what happened to him?

Not to downplay Adkins achievements of his last 3rd tier promotion (10 years ago) but with team he had I think Karel Fraye would’ve got promoted.2

Question is, who brought all the players together?0 -

He also got Scunthorpe promoted to the Championship twice. Scunthorpe have barely been at that level and he did it twice in three seasons and then he kept them there.

Think we need to calm down a bit re Adkins, it’s come from one person so far who, although he’s got a lot right, has also got stuff wrong so until we get some sort of confirmation from elsewhere it’s just all fluff and nonsense at the moment.3

That'll rather depend on who our new manager wants as his assistant, or indeed if Jacko may be our new manager.

But with all the type of names being touted around, someone like Atkins would feel a real deflater. Like being told that someone with money is taking you out to dinner and your cab turns up at a Brewers Fayre.
Experienced, with miles under belt. Proven success of getting out the league we’re in. Plays attacking football and likes developing young players. Positive attitude. Intelligent man who will buy into building a sustainable model as opposed to simply focus on short term.
Just isn't an exciting name and won’t be wearing the latest clobber from Macimo Dutti on the touchline. And if you are wanting us to discover the next big young thing, it won’t be that.
But the considered opinion is a bit positive than the instant one.1 -
Posting with only a bit of scanning - where has all the Adkins stuff come from ? Has he got the job or something ? Not seeing anything anywere else on net. Is there a page number on this thread where all this started from. How is Adkins in the running above everyone else now ?In my opinion - its good not to rush the next appointment if its for the next 10 years. I now Thomas Sandgaard is a man of action but the fanbase will cope if the decision takes a bit longer. Better to get it right. I am happy if it takes a bit more time, Johnnie Jackson is an able caretaker and can hold the reins. After yesterday's game, there was a lot of mutual respect between JJ and the team and they definitely fought for him.0

If so why do you think he is washed up and that a club legend, who has been involved in 2 relegations, once as a captain and once as an assistant manager, and has no direct managerial experience will be a better option.
Just for reference my preference would be to give Jackson the job until the end of the season and see what he can do. But am completely miffed as to why posters are so quick to write of Adkins but then want to give the job to Jackson.2 -

11 wins in 38 you say, that’s nothing special!1 -
If JJ wants it I’d give it to him. If it’s a status quo vision I want that Charlton connection. The only caveat to that would be if TS and JR want to implement a completely new philosophy and have a more appropriate candidate.

Was literally managing well in the league above ours the season before last.10 -
He's already had a play off final win over the scum in 2009 so he's used all his luck up against them3

Honestly think it would be better for Jackson’s development (if he is to stay a no.2) to stay here and learn under a different manager and how they work than to go and continue to be an assistant to the same one and not learn anything new. Money obviously talks though.8
