Charlton fans "Adkins?!? hasn't done it for years! No thanks!"

Also Charlton fans "Give it to curbs!"

I think that is the point... Why give it to someone who is Curbs without the Charlton connection when you can give it to curbs who lives and breathes Charlton
Adkins was managing in the championship in 2019. Curbs has actively avoided management for a decade
What did Adkins do in the Championship in 2019?
Kept them up, by some miracle. They got relegated under Grant McCann.

What did Adkins do in the Championship in 2019?
On 7 December 2017, Adkins was appointed as the manager of Championship club Hull City, signing an 18-month contract, following the dismissal of Leonid Slutsky. He took over the Tigers while they sat in 20th place, three points adrift from the relegation drop and five from bottom. His first game in charge, a 3–2 victory over Brentford, saw the club rise up to 18th place. At the end of the season, City finished in 18th place, eight points above the relegation places.

In his first full season in charge, Adkins led the club to a 13th-place finish, winning 17 of their 46 games. During this league campaign, he won the divisional Manager of the Month award for December, in which his player Jarrod Bowen received the monthly Player of the Month award. On 8 June 2019, Adkins confirmed his decision not to renew his expiring contract, stating that his and the club's futures were "not aligned".
  • Now 1/6 with skybet.

    Looks incredibly likely

    Looks incredibly likely
backward step or just a 10 match deal hopefully.
  • And here was me thinking Pep would take the job

  • I mean this is so overwhelmingly underwhelming that it’s bound to work out right?

How is it a backwards step? Jackson would be a backwards step. A proven promotion manager at this level is exactly the right call to make.

  • I'm not knocking those achievements, he is a good manager and I have wanted him at Charlton before, but that team had David Meylor, Jarod Bowen, Fikayo Tomori, Tod Kane, Seb Larson, Abel Hernandez and Michael Hector to name a few. We could appoint worse, but if we are going away from a Charlton connection we could go for someone a bit more inspiring

Gallen will be off I imagine.
    Why? He’s senior to Bowyer.
Not in terms of wages you’d think.

Can’t see JJ going to Brum if there’s any chance of him staying at Charlton as coach, or even assistant manager. Would he really want to uproot his life and move to Birmingham where he’d be less likely to fulfil his Charlton ambitions? I’m not convinced his bond with Bowyer is that strong.
I think Thomas is canny enough to know the value of retaining someone like JJ.
However, I’m often wrong about this stuff. :-(
    Adkins/Jacko might work well.
  • there was a time I’d of been really pleased with Adkins, so I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I’m certainly not dismayed by the idea. I think we all get a bit over romantic in football,(especially when there’s custard in the offing!). So as much as I’d like to see our legends take over and be successful, I just wouldn’t look forward to the outcome if they wasn’t. I’m happy with someone from the outside for the time being.

Hull would have been safe in midtable last season if their owner hadn't sold their best 2 players in January!

Totally this. McCann has proved this season he’s a very decent manager and he was dealt a disgraceful hand by Hull

Likewise I've come around to the Adkins idea a bit more now, looking at it as a footballing project he could be a good appointment it getting the footballing philosophy laid down along with Roddy - much like how Saints have been operating in recent years.

And if JJ is still on the coaching staff then that's some good experience for him to work with and learn off.

Still would prefer a Nathan Jones/ Beale type appointment though. I think. Maybe. Yes?!?
  • Everyone keeps saying “younger more exciting appointment” what exactly do they mean?

    Who realistically would be inspiring?
  • With regards to Adkins I mentioned I'd heard mumurs of him last night on here which set off the initial chain reaction. Appreciate I've never been ITK before but I thought it was worth sharing, happily take the stick if I'm wrong.

In terms of the source, I obviously can't say who it is but it's someone I met around the time of the takeover. I didn't think there was anything worth sharing before because there wasn't really any info that hadn't already been mentioned.

I was underwhelmed when I first heard the name but on reflection I'm optimistic for our future.
But you deleted your first comment that said you thought he'd be worth a shout. You then later posted you'd heard a rumour that we are in for him. Seems an odd way of posting if you already had the information at the time of the first post and if you didn't it's a huge coincidence.

Jimmy Floyd hasselbaink, Paul Cook, Lee Johnson. There’s 3 in our division alone.
    Bonkers! Absolutely bonkers!
You wouldn’t want any of them?
